As always, Collin, very entertaining and interesting. I got it, too, but will hold back.
Added a couple of great new links to my military history collection, too!
Tx!

The P&O passenger liner S.S. Persia was sunk off Crete 30 December 1915 by German World War I U-Boat ace Max Valentiner (commanding U-38).
Among the passengers to survive were Eleanor Thornton, who was the model for the Rolls Royce "Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot.

Well Done Ed:ernae: :icon29: :icon29:
Eleanor Thornton was a model for scupture Chris Sykes, who in turn was a friend of Lord Montagu of Beaulieu a pioneer in automobiles. Lord M asked his friend for a mascot to adorn his beloved Rolls Royce and Sykes used Eleanor as the model. She was introduced to Lord M and later became his secretary and mistress.
With the advent of WW1, Lord M (now a General) was despatched out East and Eleanor as his secretary accompanied him, they sailed on the P&O Liner RMS Persia.
Capt Max Valentiner, now commander of the U38 sighted the vessel and sank her with a single torpedo. The ship went down in under 5 minutes taking with her more then 500 souls.
Lord Montagu survived and was picked up a couple of days later.
Eleanor Thornton drowned, but has been immortalised as the "Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot which adorn all Rolls Royce cars.
I suppose if I wanted to be pedantic the link is the torpedo. Which none of yer got!..........tricky git:costumes:
But I won't do that.....
