I am a complete novice as to multiplayer, so bear with me.

I have two home computers which, I think, are part of the same "network". I would like to be able to play CFS3 such that a player on my "upstairs" computer can dogfight a player on my "downstairs" computer.

Each computer has its own name and are part of the same workgroup. They have different IP addresses. CFS3 is installed in both. I run Vista.

Can this be done? If so, how?

Again, I don't even know where to start or precisely what questions to ask.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've done this using two Windows XP computers without problem. I found it very helpful for debugging multiplayer problems with aircraft. The basic ingredients are:
- Both computers are connected to a router. Mine used the same router
- Both computers have identical copies of CFS3 installed
- Know the IP address of the host computer. To determine this ...
Start
Run
Enter the Command
In the DOS window, enter IPCONFIG
Note the IP address

With that in place, you should be able to host a game on computer #1. Once the game is up and running. computer #2 should be able to Join Private Game at the IP address you found

By identicle, do you mean everything must be the same? Can one computer have some different aircraft than the other even if those a/c are not used in a game?
