What are those jagged scribbles on the canopy? I assume they are part of the real bird, but what are they for?

I believe its part of the ejection seat process and fail safe systems.

They are strips of explosive tape that are 'blown' when the ejector seat is activated. This causes the canopy to shatter into small pieces just prior to the seat being fired. It all happens in a split second and this method is used as the canopy cannot be jettisoned as a single unit. The tape is used on several military jets.

It's the MDC (minature detonating cord) . It blows a hole in the canopy just
before the seat passes through it on ejection.

Beautiful model but I still get no real sense of acceleration from this one. I would expect the same effect I get from the F16 or F18 - that sense of being really pushed back into your seat when going from cruise to full throttle - this one lacks that completely.

I wonder if that's a feature of the plane's VC camera settings. In which case you could borrow the appropriate lines from one of the planes you mention.

I wondered too but I can't see which lines would need to be edited. It would make a big difference I think.

The T-45 doesn't have the same thrust-to-weight ratio as an F-18 or F-16, nor can it turn like one. I know a number of guys who got an IP assignment in the T-45 after flying the F-18, and they say it's a dog. It's a decent plane for training, but it's no fighter.

Of course it doesn't have the same thrust to weight ratio but one of the attractions of FSX to me is that even in a C172 you get some sense of movement when you push the throttle forward.

If you want real accelleration, get the F22 Raptor.
I've got the one from Alphasim. You just barely crack the throttle on take-off and you're doing overspeed in about ten seconds!!!
Hold on to your hats, actually, never mind your hats. Hold on to your pants!!!:isadizzy:

Anyway - Dino's modelling job on the T-45 looks superb!!!

The great just got better! Thanks for the HU, one of the few jets I regularly enjoy flying. If the VC were the quality resolution of the new stuff coming out for FSX, it would be payware proper. Not that it is not payware quality already, many I have paid for don't have a VC as good.

Great screens Vigilus and Roger.

Thanks Dino, superb work.

It is much improved over the first version I tried a while back. The same flight model issue is present. He fixed the yaw when using the rudder, but when you roll, the plane yaws a lot and feels like its sliding. I made a new flight model for myself a while back but I seemed to have lost it. It corrected this and was very enjoyable to fly. Maybe Dino can issue one more update to get the flight model to where it could be.

Dino, if your forth-coming Tomcat for FSX is anything like this one, you've mastered the craft of model-building !! The T-45 is outstanding! I've been flying it for the past couple of days and been enjoying it immensely. Nice work, sir....:applause:

Dino just made a progress report on the Tomcat. http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/20...rials-and.html (http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/2009/04/tomcat-update-carrier-trials-and.html) so it is getting closer. The T-45C he has released in version 1.51 just a few days ago shows more improvements (I've flying the dickens out f it). :ernae: I'm checking the Goshawk and can trap most of the passes. It seems to me that the Goshawk demands full flaps, gear and hook down, of course, and air speed brakes out with throttle about half to have 100 KIAS and green AoA.

I can't seem to get the wireCaught gauge to work. I'm in Vista.

Still can't upload screenys, so later for that.

Thanks a lot for your appreciation.
The Goshawk is likely to have another update in few weeks - probably the last for a long while...the major geometry rework in V1.50 has caused several minor problems that are slowly emerging. Also, I will add optional external loads (baggage pods and training bombs).

I have to confess I am quite happy with the the new Tomcat...but it is a complex machine to simulate and I will need to make some compromises. I tried to release the Beta before Easter, but had no time to complete the cockpit so far, and the flight model has some issues during carrier approaches.

@doublecool - I guess the info on the readme was not clear enough :-)...
I've deleted the optional model in which, when the engine was turned off, the gear doors "relax" to open position (as there is no hydraulics power to keep them open I guess). I decided to delete it as almost nobody was using it, I had no time to replicate the changes I did to the default one and created some visual issues in multiplayer. Maybe it will be back in the next "final" update.

there are both 4:3 and 16:9 panels (you need to copy the one you need manually to the panel folder). This only affects the 2D full-screen HUD view. VC is unchanged.

alternate aircraft.cfg:
the a/c "tail" number can be changed by the user and is shown with FSX the default font. Should you have the proper font "LongBeach USN" (afaik payware) the alternate cfg uses it - the cfg has to be manually renamed and replaces the existing one.

All,

There were several issues in the V1.50 / V1.51 release. I've been working to fix them in the past few days. Should you have time for a test flight of the latest release, please go to my blog, follow the link for download and report any major mistake you may find.

Thanks!

After 1.51 contact points are a bit messed up..Wheels dont touch the ground. Dino ,love your work !!!

Hi Yago9,
The wheels seem to be fine on the ground correctly whether grass, asphalt ramp, or runways or taxi ways. No bounce when moving or parked.

The wheels are fine on the Accel carrier deck whether moving, parked, or on the cat ready for launch.

Do you still have the wheel problem, Yago9? Does anyone?
--------------------------------------
The Goshawk stays on the cat at full power. It does not release before the launch command. Full throttle isn't needed in the sim. I do not know if a cat launch command for weight can be set for the Goshawk. I launch with the engine power at about half.

I still can't upload jpg screenys but I did get an avatar loaded.

Each improvement is great. :medals: :medals: :ernae:

Guys, thanks for your feedback.

I've packed the first round of visual changes in the zip file you can download following this link:

http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/2009/04/goshawk-visual-model-changes-after.html

The plan would be to freeze the Goshawk and release a "clean" build in the next weekend, in order to give the Tomcat the attention it deserves.

They are filaments similar to the antennae or rear window heating elements in a car!

No, they are explosive charges to shatter the canopy a milli-second before the seat gun fires during an ejection. That's what I was told on the Hawk and I doubt if it has changed.

Go to Dino's site

He put it on AVSIM & FlightSIM

Tried to locate his latest release from his web site, can't seem to find the Download
link. Went to AVSIM/Flightsim, no luck there either. Only found older versions.
So, where is this elusive plane at that everyone seems to have successfully found?

Edit: noticed that V1.5 was back in 2009. So may this 1.85 is latest and greatest. I don't know......
I'm confused.

Well,

as far as I can remember, yes, v1.85 is the latest release (June 2009).
As some of you may be aware of, I am working on a (almost) completely new Goshawk project.
I think the new version is MUCH better in every aspect (except the frame rate, may be).

The old versions are NOT supported anymore - while I have delete them. Links on my website, which are based on file sharing services, may not work anymore (as those services delete the files if they are not downloaded for a given amount of time).

...and then, the new Goshawk will be ready in weeks (I hope).
