Hi Rick,
There are 2 basic programs for making ships for CFS2, Gmax and FSDS2.whatever.
Gmax is the more difficult to learn but has a wider range of commands that can be given to various parts like the radar etc and its free.
FSDS2, is bought from Abacus (not sure of the price off hand) and is easier to learn but 'lighter' in what it can do.
There are other differences in the way they present the XYZ co-ords and background and a couple of other things.
There are no tutorials for shipbuilding though there is/was a RN frigate that was available and able to take apart in FSDS. Whatever tutorials we had here have vanished into the blackhole of archives.
I can only suggest you start small and simple and begin searching the web for proper ship plans to build too.
Always remember that the ship model is secondary to the sim and fps are always important. There is no law against polycide, so kill all the ones not required.:costumes:
Let the bmp take as much of the detail work as possible and keep it to the max size permitted. If the simmer wants to sacrifice your beautifull artwork to a smaller size or DXF let them do it.
You see its the size of the model that is different to the aircraft but the same size bmp's still have to cover the ship model though it may be 30 times bigger. So any reduction in size or passing it through DXF will blur the finish and be noticeable.
Once you have made up your mind as to what program you are going to use then I suggest you start organising your system.
Have you a decent graphics package?
There are a number of peeps on this forum who will be happy to help you once they untangle themselves from the arms of waitresses, secretaries and sometimes wifes and booze glasses.:ernae:
