Still gouging in Chicago at around $3.54 a gallon. You can find it about 20-25 cents cheaper the farther away you get. Actually, in Chicago proper, you probabaly can't get gas for less than $3.74. The $3.54 was the price at a gas station near Frankfort, IL.

It was 3.65 here in downtown Dyer yesterday. I'm going to Millington (near Memphis) tomorrow, so I'll have a better idea then. The gas station here is notoriously high as he's the only one in town.

Had to gas up last night....$2.96 a gallon. I only put $10 worth in because I just needed a splash and dash so I could make it to the hospital to visit my wife....just hope the price doesn't shoot up by the time I get around to filling the tank. Was on "E" last night and the car began sputtering as I pulled into the station...been pretty distracted with my wife's recovery that I have been neglecting some of the simple things...gas, groceries.

Up here in Toronto Canada we no longer buy gas in gallons, they sell gas by the litre. (a bit larger than a quart)

This makes it much easier for the oil companies to screw us up here.
But ya really need to do a bit of math to gauge the: "depth of their penetration"

1 US gallon = 3.79 litres

1 "Kanuck buck" = $0.85 US

1 litre costs $1.006 (today)

During Hurricane Ike gas shot up overnight from $1.139 to $1.349 (a financial "cavity search" - gee Doc; take off yer wristwatch, PLEASE!)

What makes this even more humourous is the fact that the oil we refine HERE in southern Ontario comes from either Alberta or the east coast of Kanada. So Ike's effect on gas price SHOULD NOT have effected us! (gee Doc; why are ya rolling up yer sleeve???)

So the equivalent of 1 US gallon in Kanadian funds TODAY = $4.38

During Ike: $5.87

Ooooohh ... these guys are good eh?

Ya wanna buy 10 gallons? That'l be: $43.80 or $58.70

Wanna fill yer full size SUV? ... Bring yer Bank Manager or sell one of yer kids!

The truth is that our local gas (in southern Ontario) is less expensive than almost anywhere else in Canada

But this gets even better....

Our Brothers in England pay twice this amount.

So naaaahh; gas is dirt cheap in many of the States ... you guys just didn't realize it.

Well, we work in Litres, and one 'Imperial Gallon' is near enough to 4.5 Litres, so at an average of A$1.60 per Litre one Imperial Gallon comes out at A$7.20.
However, a very fierce little turf war yesterday allowed me to fill up all the cars (except for the GT40R!) at A$00.94 per litre ............... :d
Didn't last for more than 24 hours of course but it was a nice change.

You can't just say this without comparing incomes....

Example: The US government paid Icelanders working at NAS Keflavik way more in US$ than what someone would make on US base doing the exact same job. Why, because things cost way more in Iceland....:iidea:

We've got a Brit stationed here where I'm at and he's making out like bandit!
Why? Because the British pound is doing extremely well against the US dollar...and thus he's making MORE living in the US than he would in Britain...

If I made exactly what I make now living in Britain, I wouldn't be able to afford an apartment and definitely not a house......

It was $2.64.9 this morning when I gassed up in Massachusetts.. I would guess that it probably 10 cents cheaper across the border in New Hampshire because of the oppressive Mass. gas tax.

Living in the Chicagoland area,.....we get socked about the hardest in gas costs. We can thank Cook(Crook) County and the politicians for that. The 'cheapest' gas I've seen around here is $3.39.9. Drive beyond Cook County and watch the price drop. Drive to the next state,....Wisconsin or Indiana,....and watch it REALLY drop...........
