Are there going to be any moving carriers that you can land on?

I'll vote for that!

I couldn't agree more!! Some of the best fun I have had in FS was with a modern Navy package I had for CFS2 and I imported Jordan Moore's original Huey into it and used to fly from carrier to carrier to destroyer, etc.

I would love for Jason or Mike to at least explain why a 5 year old feature can't (hasn't) be implemented into the current or upcoming FS.

I swear this site has eaten a few of my posts, including my answer to the question above...

Anyways, the carrier code (landable moving platforms) from CFS 2 was ripped out of the code base a long time ago. The underlying tech has changed in the meantime.

Landable moving platforms, while not unsolvable are still a signifigant problem to deal with. Given the time it would take to code versus the impact the feature would have (less for a civillian sim than a combat one), it hasn't stayed on the schedule for previous released versions.

We do keep putting at least a rudimentary carrier in FS, so you know we at least think about it each time...

Cheers,

Jason

Progress?

Thanks Jason, although I disagree with the impact it would have in an civilian version. There are quite a few military flyers and a large helicopter community (hovercontrol.com) that would benefit from landable moving platforms and it would add a new dimenson to the sim, carrier ops, coast guard operations, private and charter heli flights, SAR work, EMS, customs missions, etc.

Hope it does get implemented one day and thanks again!

...I disagree with the impact it would have in an civilian version....

I addressed this in the vanished first reply I wrote to this thread, but neglected to put it in my second attempt.

It's not that this particular feature (or others for that matter) wouldn't have an impact. The trick is weighing how much impact the feature would have in relation to other features that would take about the same amount of time to implement.

Features that have the greatest impact for the largest selection of users per time to develop are stack ranked. This particular feature has not risen high enough in the stack in previous versions.

It would be fun to land civilian ac on a moving, pitching surface... :)

Cheers,

Jason

<Stack, Stack STACK>

Hey guys get over here and help me lift these boxes into a stack. We will call this the Sim-Outhouse stack factor! :costumes:

<Stack, Stack, Stack>

If not implemented in the sim then maybe the ability in the SDK?? I am MORE than willing to be the guinea pig for that as we here at the VN have a ton of ships. :wavey:

I don't care what Carrier it is as long as it's long hulled Essex class that ain't go no stupid angled deck glued on to it. Just make it like it was in WWII. I'll go for that!

Helldiver,

If they make a moving carrier, all types and manner of carriers will naturally follow.
