i dunno H' but the chances are your up the creek without one...:costumes:
a guess would be tho...and i'm probably a mile out...early aircraft often had extremely perculiar (by modern standards) propellors...and some did look pretty much like two canoe paddles sello-taped to a broom handle..
i think they must be non tapering broad bladed props...

told ya i'd be a mile out lol..i'll have a dig around and see if i find any thing
another further guess tho would be high torque high pitch props to get the maximum thrust out of low revs..the restriction on thrust from a prop engine being that once past a certain speed and engine revs you just don't get any results..i guess they were experimenting to try to compete with the new jets,,
hey did you know they made a spitfire mossy hybrid three engined fighter/bomber....they built a prototype but gave up when they found there wasn't any where practicle to put the cannons..

no luck im afraid wouldn't have thought it was that hard to find the info but haven't come up with it so far...just about everything else but nowt on the props...the three engined spit/mossy hybrid is lurking in one of my magazines allso...there's just a period pencil sketch of the prototype and details of an argument regarding funding for a new wing of the airforce specifically fighter/bomber command as a seperate entity..then details of the problems with armment mounting/positioning and stress damage etc prototype flew once then was de-engined and used as a test bed..spit fuselage mossie wings..strange but true..lol

Short version of paddle-blade propellers is that they're about half-again as wide (but the same length) as a standard 'broad-spectrum' prop to allow for efficient high-altitude operation where the air is thinner. As they're bigger volume-wise, they move a larger volume of what air's available up there than a standard/narrow blade, thus providing thrust in thin cold air whereas the narrower blade would just stir the thin air around itself a bit at the same settings, this being much harder on the engine.
Compare photos of early B-17D/E props and a late G for a visual.

Thank you Sir!:icon29:
makes total sense to me
as they where for higher altitude
ask and you will recieve
next qestion when will i win the lottery:)
apreciate ya

Sounds like Sandy Dog hooked ya up there H. Focke Wulf used them on the later Fw 190s & Ta 152s. Actually, they were also used on medium altitude aircraft as well. When I did that last Ta 152C airfile, I cheated and added an extra blade in the airfile to make up for a lack of an entry for paddle blades.

The Focke Wulf Ta 154 Moskito used 4 paddles on each engine. There were also some Ta 152 prototypes with 4 paddle blades as well. Also I believe the later P-47s had them too.

Yup, a paddle bladed prop is just a short-fat propellor. A prime visual example of this is compare the props on the Howard500 to a plain old Lockheed Ventura...the 500 uses paddle props. The Later P47s also used a paddle-blade prop too.
Sandydog is spot on about paddles being an adaptation for better hi-alt performance.

Seems to me , a poor P-51d Jockey made a $50.00 bet with a P-47 d with an updated prop about who was the fastest,,and came out eating a lot of crow and loosing a months wages !!
