Yes,its a serious question.... FSX is the newest flight model from M$. X-plane is a competitor. Im asking for peoples personal opinion, which they prefer. This is just marketing 101 for M$. X-plane looks too complex for a CFS though...:applause:

Here's my opinion, it's MS not M$! M$ tells me you have an agrenda allready. Here's another opinion. I tried xplane for about a week, it's a coaster next to my compurter now. Ya, FS ain't perfect that's for sure but what's that say about xplane? Semper Fi, MudMarine

I tend to agree and really don't think they view Xplane as serious competition. It's been proven that the majority of simmers could care less about serious flight dynamics and many other things that we the hard core (see small minority) users take seriously.
It's very obvious thru all the posts here and at the other sites that MS (yes an S) are very much aware of all the things we the users have asked and do ask for and will do what they can to keep us happy and buying while still being able to keep it a viable product for them (that is why they are there)
Lets try to keep it constructive and hopefully we'll get some of the things we do want.

Yes, lets keep it constructive! The best flight sim, in my opinion, is a balanced one. I don't expect perfect flight models, realistic is fine. Scenery is important but not so important that I'm willing to give away a good framerate. I want it to feel real but I'm also realistic. I'd like it to be close to what real pilots do; file flight plans, read charts, do pre-flight checks-following checklists, flip the switches, etc. I'd like MS to keep in mind, for FSX, that some of us are/were military pilots. I would like to be able to fly to the range and drop some bombs. I don't want it to be a combat sim I'm not interested in seeing buildings blowing up. But, I'd like to know that my ordance came close to the target and that I completed my mission. I'd also love to do some mid-air refueling, that would be a blast! I want to work my gray matter when I fly!:d Running around blowing stuff up isn't going to statisfy me for very long. I really do hope MS is listening to us simmers, we maybe a small bunch but considering our average age, and income levels (according to the studies) we got some money to spend!! We maybe diffrent breed but we have one thing very much in common, our love of aviation! Semper Fi, MudMarine

ThunderBoy,
“If you do NOT have an X-Plane 8 DVD, these downloads act as a demo... they will stop the joystick after 6 minutes”
How I am supposed to get a feel for X-Plane in 6 minutes? I think I’ll pass!
I have been flying a Microsoft product for a long time. They have provided reasonably consistent function and setup from version to version. Plus, the ability to modify the flight model to a highly accurate status. The same STRM data used in X-Plane is available for FS and CFS2.
I really don’t want to have to figure out a new program with little or no benefit. Where are the add-ons?
Nobody forces you to use MS software. I think you should tone down the M$ thing a notch or two. What is the big deal? Microsoft is in business to make money. Would you prefer the world largest software company was Chinese instead of American?
A representative of the Microsoft Aces team has been kind enough to actively engage us on this forum. I, for one, will show him the respect he deserves.

In general, X-plane has the best overall flight dynamics. One thing it DOES have over the Microsoft flight sims is that the dynamics are dependent on the visual model created.
In the end, it boils down to which sim tickles one's fancy. For the vast majority of the flightsimming public, that fancy is tickled by the offerings from Microsoft.

Ok thanks Felix, Hmmm- if no one else answered the posting, why are there so many posts?
This was the next jump up from my first post that looks like at least with the online crowd, 80% prefer that M$ make its flight sims more realistic, instead of selling the FM short, for no specific rational purpose.:kilroy:
Realism probably not effect sales output, as this was mildly intended to show.
This was to put into practice the first poll, and that didnt get done, Oh well...:kilroy: :isadizzy:

I wholeheartedly disagree abourt the xplane's FD prowess. While some FDs are good, most are completely junk. In the end, regardless of which product it depends on how much time and effort one takes to model/duplicate things. You can only go so far given the limitations in any sim engine.

This is really a ridiculous debate because when it comes to pure $$$ (which at the bottom line, this is what it's all about), X-Plane can't even step on the same planet as Microsoft.
Point being, Microsoft could really care less........
X-Plane fills a cult niche....that's where they've been for years and I don't expect them to go much further...

My 2cents(and a cup of coffee)
I dont´think s just a matter of how real it feels, it´s also a matter of how real it looks, and while X-plane DOES look good, it´s not up to par with fs-9 (or fsx for this matter).Reason?, well as it has been said on another thread, if ALL the addons flew like the real thing, few of us would enjoy it, sure, flight dynamics are toned down on some planes, but have you noticed how many threads or post are about flight dynamics and how many are about sceneries, WX, AI, ect?..well, i think THAT´S the difference
May be i should keep the cup of coffee...lol
Bets regards

Thunderboy, obviously you're still on your agenda. If you can not find something more productive to do, then please go elsewhere to do it. Henry's asked you once, I'm asking nicely this time.

My aganda is to show M$ that Realistic is better. They have outright said that they dumb down the FM's. Most people want more REALISTIC flight models. Its very simple. Im using X-plane as 'realistic' comparison. The aganda is to put the 1% guys out of business, or at least make thier job a bit easier... I guess, but havent heard Bear complain! =)
NOTE: This was not supposed to be which flight sim you like better. Its about the FM's and having M$ dumb UP the FM's , which most people agree would be a good thing..

#1 Bear doesnt have fs9 or a civil sim
you are talking about a combat sim no one else is
the 1% people have never made a fm for fs8, fs9
and as yet i do not see any one agreeing with you
this is my last and final warning

I think the SOH staff is showing considerable restraint here. Personally, overtly stating that you want to put a freeware firm "out of business" is deplorable. Man, those guys are working hard and releasing stuff for free for CFS3, and then agreed to release their CFS2 library to another host site when they could not afford to keep it all on their website.
Thunderboy, you're just not being a cool dude on this one -- not at all! :173go1:
Since it is beyond obvious that this thread has little, if nothing, to do with FS-X, may I humbly suggest it be moved to a more appropriate location. I'll certainly allow the staff to determine where that location may be!

Just a quick point Thunderboy. Do you really thing Microsoft are going to take you seriously if you keep refering to them as M$?
Perhaps you should take a hint from the last time you had one of your ill-informed campaigns, remember the CFS2 bomber formation one, and give it a bloody rest!

I once knew a kid who tried to drag me in to the age old question, of which two were better....
I admit, I like MS sims. For the pure reason that I have been flying them for nearly 10 years. I will also admit I have not tried X-plane.
we could get in to the positives and negitives of how one is better then the other in the term of flight dynamics simulation, or visual design, or weather simulation. But in the end I will tell you something. I don't care what the positives and negitives are. I fly what I want. Why does it matter which simulator I use? I like the one I use for my own reasons.
Do not think that just because I have not tried X-plane I am a MS fan boy or anything like that because I'm not. I did not buy FS9 for my self it was a gift. I did not feel that FS9 was a major upgrade over FS8. I did not buy CFS3, because I did not feel that it was a decent expansion over CFS2. No offence to those who use CFS3.
In the end I will tell you this, if you want the real feeling of flying an airplane. Both of these simulators, and even the HUGE simulators operated by the airlines fail on that fact. If you want to truly experiance flying, fly a real airplane, in the real world.
If you don't want that, then choose your sim, and have fun! Stop making , what I see as foolish comparisons.
