When a ship is launched, the shipyard provides a small crew of specialist workers to accompany her on her maiden voyage. This crew fixes small errors and more severe ones are noted for repair at a later date.

Anyone know the name of this crew?

"Shakedown crew" I think is an americanism and I believe it applied to a temporary crew assigned for the commissioning trials.

I'm thinking more along the lines of passenger liners.

Thank you though.

Ok cruise lines like QM2 homeported Southampton. That ship went thru skeleton cruises prior to accepting passengers.

Ok Trans, now you are getting the idea.

A couple of years ago a programme was made for British television concerning the building of the Titanic. This tv programme went and told the story of her from drawing board to launch and then her voyage. Harland and Wolfe provided a crew of about 10 including the designer and a foremen to fix small defects like wall fittings and small carpentary jobs, anything major was to be noted by the designer and foreman for dockyard work at a later date.
H&W provided these crews on all the major ships they built for their maiden voyage.

I am trying to find this programme and for the life of me cannot remember the name of it, but this part was one aspect that I do remember. Hopefully, I can find out the name by doing some round about research like this.

BTW, none of the H&W crew survived the sinking.

Passage crew? I think that's what those dockyard wallahs who went into action on the PoW in 1941 were referred to.
