Thank's for posting all those...I was sharing some crashnet.com pics with friends at work. Should be an interesting season, lots of changes again. I never miss a race, though I do prefer ALMS - LMES - FIAGT over F1. Love sportscars, go to Laguna Seca every year and grew up going to Riverside for everything from mid 60's until the very last events...

BTW, do you do any racing sims? I'm in a '85 Prototype C / IMSA Winter League. Driving a 962...what a freaking bear! (they used 100% locked diffs!)

Used to drive a lot in the old EA F1 sims and a bit in GPL, but none are installed right now. Do play a bit of Need for Speed : Most wanted if I can find some time. Have GT Legends, but Idon't like the starforce protection system on that; It does weird things on my system.

What game has a Porsche 962 ?
Or is it a mod for another game perhaps ?

Thanks Ferror. :)

It appears they've not gone for the split rear-wing idea. Thankfully.

It appears they've not gone for the split rear-wing idea. Thankfully.

Not this year; The split wing will have to be used from the 2008 season.

That wing is not a design choice; It is part of a new rules package that the FIA will introduce to make F1 racing cheaper and more exciting.

Doesn't matter - these current F1 cars are seeeeeeeexy. That split wing is fugly. :(

People said the same when the FIA narrowed the track of the cars by 20 cm., raised the front wing, introduced grooved tyres... We'll get used to it.

And if it does actually help to make overtaking easier, why complain ?

How exactly is the split wing going to make things cheaper and more competitive?

The wing itself is not going to make things cheaper; There are other rulechanges coming to acomplish that, like a standard ECU and engines and gearboxes that need to last longer, and the switch to only one tyre supplier.

Overtaking should be a bit easier with the split wing, because it will not disturb the airflow directly behind the car as much as the current type of wing does. The current wings create so much turbulence behind the car that another car simply cannot drive too close to the car in front without losing too much downforce.

Drafting, like on the ovals in the IRL, is impossible with a F1 car.

If you have less downforce than the car in front of you, you simply cannot outbrake it or go faster through a corner.

Another advantage of the split wing is that it will decrease the total amount of downforce on a car. Combined with a return of the slick tyres to get more mechanical grip, overtaking should be easier.

The first pictures of the first car from Scuderia Toro Rosso, the STR01, that was revealed today on the jerez track in Spain.

The only car running with a restricted 3 litre V-10, not with the new 2.4 litre V-8 engines. Minardi was bought by Red Bull last year and transformed to STR. Minardi was allowed to use a V-10 this year due to budget constraints, but even though Red Bull has a much larger budget, the team is still allowed to use the V-10.

Note the 77 mm. restrictor in the airintake in the third picture.
It is expected that the FIA will intervene if the STR is too fast, by limiting the engine a bit more.

The colours are for testing only; the racing scheme will be revealed in Bahrein, just before the first race.

The last car to be revealed :

The Super Aguri SA05; Basically the last car used by the Arrows team before they went bankrupt three years ago, with some updated aerodynamics to make the car legal.)

A new car (Made with help from Honda) will be presented somewhere in the season.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a262/Ferror/Formula%201/Super_aguri_01.jpg

Drivers will be Takuma Sato and Yuji Ide. (Who ? :icon_lol: )

How about every team uses one tyre brand, one compound for the dry and one for the wet, a single chassis design and manufacturer, a 'spec' engine, say a 3 litre V8 with an air restrictor and rev-limiter ..... and cap the drivers 'salaries'!
Himmel!!! Formula 3000!!!!!!
Never work.

Yes indeed.
UGLY cars, great concept, while the racing is pretty much as expected in light of (certain) competing nations motorsport 'heritage', but it wiil continue to be a very niche 'enthusiast' sector for as long as the present regime run EffWun ..... BTW, is Verstappen the only one with an international racing licence in Holland??:d

:d

He's the only one available for A1; Christijan Albers drives F1 for Midland, Robert Doornbos is the testdriver for Red Bull (F1), Charles Zwolsman is looking for a seat in the IRL, and there are a few talents coming.
