My thanks go out to jankees for finding the error in my ways.

When I was saving my textures in DXTBitmap for the three repaints I sent up to Sim-Outhouse, I did not notice that I had the MitMap "Include when saving" box checked and ergo, all of my textures are smudged. A simple fix of bringing the textures back into DXTBitmap, unchecking the "Include when saving" box and resaving the texture was all that was required. To any here that have loaded any or all of my paints and do not have DXTBitmap to get rid of the MitMaps by doing the same, email me at cazmodel@comcast.net and I shall see that you receive the proper texture.

Jan, thanks a million.

A follow-up to more properly show and state how to get my repaints to have the proper resolution.

I have already checked the spec textures and they are I believe by default a single Mitmap, anyhow mine are, so you are okay there.

But all three of the main textures to each repaint need to be opened in DXTBitmap (if you do not have it, it is free at Martin Wright's website: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/). One a texture is opened, there is no need to send it to your graphics editor. Just check to the upper left under "MitMaps" and make sure the box beside "Include when saving" is unchecked.

If it is checked, incheck it. If it is not checked, do nothing to it.

After making sure the "Include when saving" bix is unchecked, simply save the file in the format of choice and overwrite the existing file. Your textures will now be sharp.

Sorry for the buffo and thanks to jankees before anymore repaints go out out. :ernae:

It's "mipmaps" with a "p". For more info, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mipmap

Lest anyone go thinking that removing mips is a magic bullet, btw, you need them for any plane you want to use as AI, or for any scenery, period. Just my $.02.

Ah it's great when we help another out. Thanks for the errata Caz! Appreciate all the effort you and the other painters go to help create these beauties. While us poly benders create a model you guys bring it to life.

Not sure everyone knows now the great tools and lengths that have now been passed on to painters with the new FSX materials.. that makes such a difference with the FSX models.

See the attached photos-
I followed your instructions and I think they came out okay...

Do you agree? They look crisp to me

:applause::applause::applause: papab!

Yes, they are to a Tee.

Folks, I would feel so embarrassed save for the fact that after opening not only a majority of my repaints for FSX in the MS FSX Environmental SDK's Image Tool, I found that not only mine, but most of the other repaints I have are in MipMaps! Yikes! I have been a busy man today. :help:

All of my repaints of Piglet's M-18C Mite are effected and here I thought it was my video card all along! NOT! DOLT! :banghead:

Anyhow troop, if any of you have any of my repaints of Piglet's masterpiece, please do the same, it will make them markedly better. All of my repaints now appear in my Spot View like I envisioned them from my Photoshop textures. And to think that one little checkmark could do all tham harm?

If I ever meet Jan Kees in this life, I owe him a :guinness: or twelve!

I will not say that saving all these in a single MipMap has increased frame rates, but the are more steady.

Many thanks jankees, lesson learned. :applause::applause:

Caz,

It surely does not seem that difficult to do but I'm having trouble :help:

Here are some screenies of Preddy's aircraft... using the latest of Martin Wright's DXTBmp....

I'm a noob I guess or did I forget a step

1. Open original DDS file

2. Make Sure mipmaps is unchecked

3. Resave in DDS DXT5 format

4. Overwrite or completey replace the original... after a backup..just in case :typing:
