View Full Version : SOH racing colours ?

Hi guys,
I've been busy with my paintbrush and came up with this paint using the colours and logo's from the forum.
Just wondering if anyone els thinks wee should get a few more planes painted up in something similar so we can all fly in the same team colours for the race?
I tried t okeep the scheme simple so it should kit onto any plane that is being used.
I am happy to do the painting onto any plane that there is a paintkit for.
Obviously this can be considered a first draft should there be any further ideas.
If we are intested, I can post colour swatches, paintkit for this spit and I can paint up other planes as required.
I shall have to add me name under the cockpit when I tidy this one up.
I'm a real beginner at this painting lark as this is only me second plane and this my first omplete painkit including rivets, etc. Feel free to critisise as you feel fit.
All ideas, thoughts warly welcomed.
Kev.

My personal paints are usually based on existing paints with SOH logo's here and there.
Here's a small edit of a logo used last year :

I need to add the 'Electrics by Lucas' badge on theree too :)

Paul Rebuffat Mk XIV? I might could make ya a deal on a custom racin' panel for it that includes a pop up electrical panel with Lucas Electric, Ltd. on it. :d
I'll be close to those colors. I've decided to go with the AH Mk XIX PS915 "The Last". Now to just remember to bring the film along.........:costumes:
Anyway, glad to see that me and ol' Blue won't be the only Spits out there...

Very nice paints, Kev! :applause:
Personally, for the upcoming race, I've spent the last few hours creating my very first repaint :d Nothing complex, just took one of Gnoopey's 61st FS skins, got rid of the markings. Then I designed a logo for my plane for the race, put that on the nose, and put my g/f's name on the side. Now I'm all set for the race :d
I'll post some pics later, if anyone wants to have a look-see, after I get Gnoopey's permission.

Yep,
After all these years it is still a very fine model.
I'm currently running it with Mr Scrubs MKXIX mod and I am working on a couple of real real paints too included the highest fastest recorded flight and the subsequent unintentional fastest dive in a prop plane. That plane was also in the last operational unit using spitfires in the RAF.
I have done a 'modern' panel for her with all the necessary mod cons.
Still not sure if it will be my ride. To get the range on some of the longer legs requires throttling back and therefore loosing speed. at such times the P-47 may still have it.
I don't have the AH models as I went for the RA spit for my payware. The engine modellings, although far more realistic, adds another handicap I just don't need for racing unless everyone has it.

Chris - you don't need my permission to tease us with what youv'e done so far. I would just like to 'stream line' the [fltsim.x] entries of possible team repaints - because I'm still planning for an update with the latest 'all gimmicks' 3D model and stuff. Haven't got out my paintbrush for this 'race purpose' so far. Last year I just did a very simple, quick and dirty application of one of the logos that CK had done so marvelously.
And to answer your question from another post - yes, I've done a paint kit for her - but it's not public (at least not yet - not much interest). PM me your email addy - if you haven't done already - and we'll find a way that you'll get it.
EDIT: BTW - have you seen the upcoming liveries in here ==> http://gnoopey.dyndns.org:8000/images/P-47D-40/build/WIP-P-47.html - scroll down and be patient for the updated ones for the M-1 - they're towards the bottom of the page ....

Think somebody could do one for the night fighter Hornet, scince we'll have to fly that one as it's the only one with drop tanks in the visible model.

Thanks mate!
Right now I'm really busy, but I'll try and get a few pics up in a little while. I used [fltsim.8] through [fltsim.10] and I just changed them to reference my new repaint folder and changed RTW05 to RTW06.
To be honest, I don't remember asking you for a paint kit. I'm not really into much painting, just the occasional nose-art/logo/name applied to a nice paint scheme already there.
I hadn't seen those updates. I've fallen in love with the Wolves paint schemes in the very dark blue. I used your excellent "Lanowski" paint as the base for my changes. I just edited out the logo on the front, and added my own. Incredible paint, and I couldn't have done anything without it.
Thanks,
Chris

my bad Chris - I 'messed' things up - kevib1 had just asked by PM about a paint kit for the M-1 :banghead: :redf:
Kev, send me your email addy by PM - I'd lost my contacts in december due to own stupidity and we'll find a way to route the paint kit your way.
BTW Chris - the updated 'Wolves' shown through the link in my last post haven't got uploaded to any site yet - still a to do for me but I'll promise they'll come any time soon.

I don't have the hornet but if you send me the texture sheets I can have a go.
You'll have to test it unseen by me.
I assume there is no paintkit?
Is there a plain colour/ white texture anywhere in the set as that might help.
My email addy is in my profile. Click my name above my avatar.
Could you also send me the [flightsim] section from the aircraft.cfg.

Will have to ask Epsillon for permission, as about 99% of that paint is his work. I just removed the registrations (Rather crudely) and added the SOH logo's.
I could sent it to anyone interested by e-mail though, just for personal use.

my pleasure Kev - those are great looking 'beasts'! My bad of course with the stabilizer tail fin as well as with the drop tanks. I did really lazy texture mapping on both parts.
The master map is from the CFS3 sample for maximum frames - didn't want to change it. And the drop tanks were a later addition by myself - taking the texture pixels from the fuselage where the wings intersect with it. Don't try to fix what you cannot fix easily :)

I now have a password to upload here so I'll upload the spit and the Jug this evening. The howard needs a little tweaking to line up the texture sections just right. Hopefully, I'll get that done and up in the next day or two.
Are there any other planes that people are flying and would like an SOH skin for?
I don't have the DH Hornet but I'll paint the textures if I can and it's wanted. Did I hear mention of a paintkit for it?

Nothing else I tried seemed to be right either so I settled on this as it looked ok.

Kev,
I'm happy with what you did and I'm still using the now VERY old PSP7. So those newer .psp files are possibly not usable. During last nights hop from Wake Island towards Oahu, I'd 'learned' from the crowd, that I should now focus to possibly finish the RB-50F Superfortress. And I'm pretty limited in time at the moment. So if you want do paint the B-29, go ahead - repainting templates (attention BIG) are at flightsim and avsim only.
I could even send you some nice nose art girls to add like 'Lucky Lady', Sky Queen etc. etc.

Those re very good templates Gnoop.
It took a little figuring out the layers layout but very well made.
I have a little problem with the mapping on the tail gun turret which appears to be mapped to a section somewhere in the middle of the fuselage right where the fat strip is showing on my paint. I can live with that, how often are you looking at the tail!!
The inside of the main wheel bays appears to have no mapping (or I can't find it) and is showing green from the model, I assume. Again, if you are looking at that you must be a stowaway!!

Kev
thank you and thank you!
Guess you're correct about the tail sphere of the tail turret - I'll have to check, don't know by heart - in one of the latest builds there are 448 3D parts in the 'VC' and 561 3D parts in the most detailed outside LOD model - hard to keep track of 'em all.
Yes - you're correct about the wheelwells / gear bays and the bomb bay. In the later builds (which are still not public yet) I've finally texture mapped these parts, too. Also the wing de-icer boots were finally mapped - had to do that to support a FIFI livery :)

Here is my version of the B-29. As far as I'm concerned it's finished. let me know if you guys think it's worth it to upload the files.
It isn't as good as the other paints on display here, but I like it.

Let us be the judge of how good it is :)
It looks just as good as any others posted in this thread so far.
I'll try it out later when I get home.
Not too sure of your flying style though!! :engel016:

been trying my hand at it too, i really need to get to grips with the reflective textures... i think i went over the top with the wax and polish, there are 2 shades of blue and some white under all that shine...

Stev - the least you'll gonna 'earn' (from Willy) is something like ... 'oh, shiny' :)

go ahead Panaka! The most important thing is that YOU like what you did.
I'm 'world famous' to have a pretty 'weird' taste (and for notorious 'nit-picking') - don't like 'rusty' flaps and Manga girlies and I also think you should get rid of the 'circled R' on the vertical stab - but that's just my 'taste' ;)
The more choices we have, the better! Hey M8, I'm so happy that there's another repaint upcoming!!!

Just uploaded the B29 and Sea Fury paints. Should be available once admin clears them.
Although I don't have the WOP 'stangs I'm looking forward to the Donationware P51B/C.
Even if we don't win again this year we sure will look good!!

How are your paints coming along GP?
I can't fly a leg in the current practice just yet as I am trying to fix our central heating but until then I have been playing with the paint brushes again.
Something a little slower than our usual but I thouht it would make for a great looking formation finish as we cross the line winning the race :)
Just playing with the M$ textures and done very quickly but I'll upload if you want it.

Kev:
Good luck with the central heating. I had oil delivered yesterday, which sometimes clogs everything up despite two filters in series! Furnace quit (-10F) so I had an enjoyable evening taking stuff apart and blowing the filters and nozzles out with compressed air.
I was rewarded with a smokey "Wumph" as it fired off, albeit with a little extra fuel in the chamber!
How come it never quits in the Summer...

Thanks Tom,
My efforts are a lot less grand than yours.
We have a little house with a 'standard' UK gas boiler hot water and heating system. Not to much to go wrong but not much to fiddle with when it does.
I had assertained that the water pipes where where clogged up somewhere so I drained the whole system added the appropriate de-gundging fluid but :censored: if I could get the system to refill so had to resort to calling in a plumber.
Turns out the blockage was in one of the many bends of pipes running around the hot water storage tank. The plumber had to cut the effected pipe section out and then join in a new section.
If nothing else my efforts in draining the system saved a lot of chargable time keeping the plumbers bill down a bit!
Expensive week all in all as the car needed so garage time, new tyres, exhaust and brakes. I had also ordered a new graphics card and joystick just before all this happened. Typical timing! There goes this and the next quarters bonus.
I'll know for next time!!

Heatings is all fixed and the house is on the market so I had five minutes to finish off a couple of last minutes bits.
Just uploaded an updated skin for Gnoopey's V2 jugs just incase anyone has been having problems getting it to show with the new version.
Rumour has it we will be starting the race in the team bus this year so I had to do a real quick and dirty Gooney bird which is also up and ready for download.
Now lets fly.

Thanks for all your SOH house colors Kev!
I should also say thanks to all who knocked out the nice SOH racers.

Thanks Moses,
I have enjoyed doing them all. It is a great way to learn how to repaint.
The default planes are not the easiest to paint with all the mirrored textures but that is part the reason why they are all so frame rate friendly.
Thanks to everyone else who has painted a racer or is flying one of mine.
Hopefully see lots of screenshots of them all in the next few days as we become the best dressed winning team in the race history :ernae:
Good luck all

Great work Panaka. The blue-grey finish is my favourite P-38 finish and the invasion stripes are the icing on the cake.:ernae:
Best wishes
