This is copied from a post on the MSFS Forums (with grammatical fixes and other additions for better clarity):

According to Microsoft Support, the next Patch will go live on the 27th. This can already be seen in-game with the core content pack ready and waiting in the Content Manager. The pack will not install yet because the game itself needs to be updated first before it will take the update, so you will need to wait until the patch drops.

Also VERY IMPORTANT! If you use custom liveries or custom made scenery, the best thing to do is before installing the patch and the core content pack is to move all of your custom content such as liveries, custom scenery, mods etc. from your community folder to a temp folder. Content bought from the Marketplace can stay. Also if you modified official files in the official folder then I suggest changing that back to default; never smart to modify official files anyway, that is what the community folder is for. Reason for doing this is that the content manager download might either get corrupted or not install at all.

After install, make sure to see if anything was changed in the official files. This means having to go through all of your liveries again because custom liveries make use of a copy of the Aircraft.cfg, so if the official one changed and you don't change it in your livery folder then it will overwrite the new updated Asobo file when flying with those liveries.

After you've done all of that you can put things back. In regards to scenery, make sure to check if Asobo hasn't updated that airport or other scenery fixes that were made.

Very helpful, do you think this going to be another 100 gigs to download? Very painful.

DVJ, the core content update currently waiting for release in the content manager says it is nearly 80 GB, though I'm not sure if that actually will be the size of the update or not - we will see when the update/patch is initiated (likely by the end of the day US-Pacific time).
BTW, whenever an update is ready, you will be prompted at the time you load-up the sim.

Misread/fake news i'm afraid, the 80GB you see in your content manager is the 80GB you already downloaded.

Quote from a Community Manager [Z-7] on the forum:

Our Development update on the 27th will include details on the upcoming patch. The 27th is not the release of the patch. Thanks!

Thanks Marcel, I sort of expected as much. Still, the advice about the addons/modifications I think is good to follow, ahead of whenever these updates are released.

The only thing I've added are the Orbx Airports that have been released. But I keep those in a separate library, so those should be fine, correct?

Yeah, Ken, I would assume those would be just fine.

My ORBX files are on a separate drive, but the installer did put junction links in the community folder. These may have to be renewed after any update.

Also, I purchased the Carenado Cessna 182T G1000 from the store, but not sure where it was put. Haven't tested it yet.

Has it been released yet?
Any idea what's in it?

That msfs post is ripping like wildfire through the various forums with people panicking that they'll have to download an 80 Gig file but as mgr above says; that's not the patch, that's the program content you already have on your machine. The patch file is yet to appear and we only anticipate the announcement of the file availability today (27-Aug-2020).

I think the patch will be a small file - say, a coupe of hundred Megs and will correct a few "howlers" like the Melbourne Tower, Washington Monument, Buck House, some water, land class and mesh. None of those things are big files - neither will be the stutter fix talked about.

No, not yet.

The MSFS official page says that the date for the release of the patch will be announced today, while some were led to believe or thought the release date would be today. Based on the experience during alpha testing, sometimes a patch would end up being released on the same day that they originally stated the release date would be announced on.

When an update is released, you will notice so when you boot-up the sim and during the "Checking for Updates" screen. Sometimes this will lead you to downloading a smaller update through the app you purchased it through, like the Microsoft Store, and then downloading a larger update when booting-up the sim again.

We will get information about the patch today, and it will be here when it is posted: https://www.flightsimulator.com/

Also, whenever a patch is released, there should be a thread posted about it here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/c/community/news-and-announcements/

(https://forums.flightsimulator.com/c/community/news-and-announcements/)I'd imagine that at least part of the patch will include fixes to the items noted here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/known-issues-last-modified-8-27-2020/128064

(https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/known-issues-last-modified-8-27-2020/128064)I recall the week before launch, the Asobo developers stated in a Q&A that their cockpit team was squashing 50 bugs a day just for cockpit/autopilot-related systems, so daily fixes like that, since release, should be included as well I would think. There will be continuous monthly free updates by the way they've described.

Today's development update has been posted, and it states that the patch will be released within the next 7 days. Details about the items it addresses can be read here too.
