Also, here is the latest Development Roadmap that was posted last month. Note that the free "World Update" series begins next month, or at least an introduction to it. These will be released every 2-3 months (separate from the free Sim Updates which will also be released every 2-3 months on an opposing/opposite schedule I believe) and will focus on specific regions at a time, injecting the latest Bing aerials/data, more hand-crafted airports, more POI's (unique hand-modeled landmarks), and more landing challenges and planned flight/trips, all for within each specific region at a time. As can also be seen here, the next Development Roadmap will be released next month as well.

There should also be some news soon about the NDA-bound beta program that will be starting up again to test future updates and new content outside of the release version.

I hope they update the flight dynamics thrust/drag on the jets as they need it badly and from the looks if it, we're not going to have any major addon aircraft until at least late winter/spring of 21.

What makes you say that about major addon aircraft? I've seen tons of 3rd party addon aircraft in the works, which I imagine we will start seeing be released within 2 or 3 months (upgrades of freeware FSX aircraft, so not study level, but I'd be happy). And we know 3rd party more major aircraft are in the works. It seems there are planned additions to the SDK and 3rd party support continuously going forward.

What's a "major addon" aircraft?, what in the above chart says that we won't see any?

Not doubting you have logic behind your statement, just asking.

As far as jets, is the flight dynamics change you're imagining in the base system, so no jet will ever work properly until they fix it? or is it some tweaking of the flight model for the individual aircraft that could be fixed through the SDK?

ya know what I'd like?? I'd like my throttles to move when i push them forward, not three seconds later, not after I've moved them half way no. I want the throttles to move when I push them. I dont think thats a lot to ask.

I looked at the major addon builders current WIP roadmap and at the earliest, it will be next year between late winter to spring before the PMDG 737NG3 comes out. There are a number of Devs that may push their developments back until this time or late 2021 due to the fact that the SDK is not complete yet (or released in current unfinished form). As far as the jets are concerned, the thrust/drag tables are way off, way too much acceleration for average loads but there are other aspects of the flight dynamics that are said to need adjusting as well. I wish I could go in and adjust the Thrust/Drag settings on my own but see no way to do that as of yet.

ya know what I'd like?? I'd like my throttles to move when i push them forward, not three seconds later, not after I've moved them half way no. I want the throttles to move when I push them. I dont think thats a lot to ask.

Couple of things.

First, make sure your throttles are assigned to "Axis Throttle [number]," not to "Throttle." If you don't use the Axis assignment, the sim reads your hardware as if it was a button - off 'til halfway, then on.

Second... or if you're already using an Axis assignment... check the sensitivity settings. There's a sensitivity button on the left side of the controls interface. A straight linear setting (0% sensitivity) and zero null zone works best for power and mixture settings - but they may not be set that way by default. What you're describing could be the result of a negative curve - very little response, then a lot as you get toward the end of travel.

The sensitivity settings could use some fine tuning and the controls dialogue isn't well designed, so it can be a bit of a struggle.

If none of this works - then let us know what throttle hardware you're using. Most are working OK but some have had problems.

Hope this is helpful.

I've noticed that Throttle and Mixture have a maximum travel rate, but the Prop will move as fast as I can dial the knob on my X-52. I just think of it as preventing engine stress... :pop4:

I dont see model improvment on the list. Hmmm.
Few tested planes have bugs (not working gauges for example, like this yellow Zlin / Cub - CHT gauge).

There are going to be monthly "Sim Updates", as they will be referred to as, to correct things like that and more, released every 2-3 months (in addition to the "World Updates" also to be released every 2-3 months (not on the same schedule)), but this isn't one of those. This current patch is just for the immediate big issues at the moment plaguing some with regard to installation and stability.

Bush Trip updates (e.g. completion trigger fixed/Completionist achievement fixed)
World updates

Ahead of this patch, I'm going to make sure to put all of my Community folder addons in a separate/temporary folder first, and then see what things look like stock, before bringing addons back in again. The aircraft.cfg files for all of the aircraft repaints will need updating with the latest aircraft.cfg files/info that may be updated/improved with this patch.

This of course is just one patch/update - they're planning on releasing at least one meaningful content update each month for the foreseeable future (including sim updates and world updates).

Also worth posting this here, from the September 3rd Dev Update, which also mentions some of the items being addressed in this next patch/update.

BTW, for anyone who may not know this already, Asobo/Microsoft are working on developing what they call "World 2.0" for this sim, which we will see in the form of the free "World Updates" which will be released every 2-3 months. According to the head of MSFS, Jorg Neumann, they have been actively working on collecting new aerial imagery and data of the northern hemisphere of the globe (during this past summer season) to be injected into Bing and to be processed into MSFS. I imagine the same will be repeated for the southern hemisphere likely early in the coming year. Each free World Update will concentrate on just one region at a time, and will be a package featuring the latest aerials and data from Bing, new hand-crafted airports within that specific region, new hand-modeled POI's (points of interest) within that specific region, and new landing challenges and planned flying trips for that specific region. The goal is to eventually cover each part of the world with these updates, and to give a particular focus to each region of the world at a time.

There are a few interviews where this has been covered, but this is probably as good as them all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rl_onmgoV8&feature=youtu.be&t=3002

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rl_onmgoV8&feature=youtu.be&t=3002)With everything Asobo/MS are doing for this sim, and evidently some even bigger things that they aren't able to talk about yet, there's no way "the dust is going to settle" with this sim. We're just seeing the beginning here.

And I hope the record number of users has injected quite a bit of support for Asobo from Microsoft as well. I'm so happy the reception has been so great!
And that the developer community has jumped in the deep end with both feet so well, too!

It's like all our dreams came true. :)

The new update is ready for download (+ Japan).

How to get the Japan Update:

- Log into the Microsoft Store or Steam and check for updates for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Make sure you install the latest update (1.9.3).
- After you launch the sim, you can press ALT+ENTER and look at your title bar to check to make sure you have the latest version.
- An automatic update around ~9 GB will begin to complete the 1.9.3 installation.

It's honestly a very mild PG-13, but definitely more interesting that just in-sim footage. I found it on Vimeo (search Girls and Planes), then used another website that converts the html video to a downloadable mp4. Then I ran that through Movie Maker to delete the audio, renamed it, changed the extension on the original to .bak, and dropped it into the folder. The video's really just an ad for some Russian Facebook wannabe, but I really don't care about that. The only time you see that is at the very end.

I hope so! This video is nice (to see 1-2 times) but its waste of time...

btw. What is good I see a lot of updates of SDK (according plans), so maybe more 3th party addons for MSFS finally... (till now we have only 2 planes from Carenado, 1 Bird Dog of BBS and this (poor?) Kitfox) :sorrow: .

v1.9.3.0

How to get the update???? Mine is v1.8.3.0, MS Store AND app show NO new updates, my ingame store shows the JAPAN World update owned and downloaded, but NOT installed. I have a lot of updates in Content Manager shown as downloaded but NOT installed. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I keep trying the sign out trick, but it does not take. I sign out, shutdown MSFS, reboot computer, restart MSFS, and I'm still logged in!

I checked the MSFS forums, but could find nothing on my problem. (Wrong search criteria???) Running WIN 10 v2004, build v19041.508. Is this the latest?

Tom Clayton

Don - if you got your game through the MS Store, go back there and let it check for updates. It'll do a small update there, then when you launch the sim, it'll do the big one. Once 1930 is in, then Japan will be in the Marketplace as a free "purchase." With Steam or XBox, I'm not sure how to get the 1930 patch. The Japan package requires it though.

Edit - just re-read. Not sure why you're not getting the update. Make sure you use the MS Store app in Win 10, and not the store website. Also make sure you're logged in.

Tom, I tried everything both you and John Terrill suggested, none worked. Finally, I just uninstalled using the Windows uninstaller. Guess what, this uninstaller does NOT remove ANY content. It just removes the necessary files to start the program. Anyway, I reinstalled from the store using the Windows10 Store App. Primary download is done, and after starting the program, it is presently downloading the main content. Also, the version is now 1.9.3.0. After installation finishes, will see if all my prior purchases are still available, or if they need reinstalling. Will have to wait till tomorrow to see what happens.

I have a feeling that this is more of a hotfix than an update (hence, it's 1.9.5). In the video, I thought they said they'd be releasing the USA World Update on the 13th. No sign of that, so I think not everything they've finished made it in this release?

Unfortunately due to an oversight on our end (yes we are human) we inadvertently posted the wrong date for the “Press Any Key To Continue” change on the previous weeks Feedback Snapshot. As such this change did not go live in this update but instead will go out with Update 5 as we had originally intended.

I want to know how all of you were notified by your sim about the update. I had to completely uninstall 1.8.3.0 and reinstall from the store to get the 1.9.3.0 update. Then, the download would not install to my original installation location. After two nights of attempting to get the 1.9.5.0 update, unsuccessfully, I made two short night flights, in areas I know. My in cockpit camera is now a snapback camera, with limited movement, and cannot be changed. I tried redownloading, but am not given the ability in the store, without uninstalling, AGAIN. Losing faith in this sim, fast.

With the Microsoft Store version, you have to go to the Microsoft Store when an update is released first.

I opened Microsoft Store, and I had to wait several minutes for it to change from "Play" to a little teeny |> arrow button with no explanation in the ribbon under the picture. When I pressed it, it installed a small update. Then, when I went into the game, it downloaded the update.

Wouldn't let me start the game without doing the Microsoft Store step first, but it did notify me to do that.

Tom Clayton
October 16th, 2020, 10:07
With the last two updates, there was no indication in the Store app that an update was happening, but I have the sim pinned in my Start menu, so when I went there I almost immediately saw that icon was dark with the mini progress bar. When the first (?) patch came out, I opened the Store app and didn't see anything. I closed it, thought of something else to look at, reopened the Store app, and it showed the initial update in progress.

Tom, YoYo and Flyscool, thanks for your replies, but mine's not doing any of those. The first update, to 1.8.3.0 did exactly as it was supposed to do. All updates occurred exactly as stated by each of you, with very little interaction on my part. Since then, my head has pounded a pretty good sized dent in my old lathe and plaster wall behind my chair. None of the number of steps suggested before work. Nor has any of the suggestions on the Microsoft forums. My next step is a complete uninstall and then a complete search and destroy throughout my computer and 6 HHD/SSDs. Then try an entirely new install from the store again.

Tom, those are the same settings I have for my cockpit camera. It worked great in v1.8.3.0. My external still works properly. When I did the first uninstall/reinstall to get to 1.9.3.0, it occurred very quickly, and must have kept all my configs, as the settings remained for all my controls and graphics. But now, the cockpit camera pans with the POV button, but does not have full movement. It moves only within the limits of the "instrument" views, and snaps back to forward view when POV released. zoom works properly with mouse wheel, but attempting to operate any switch/button is nearly impossible, as the view jiggles a lot when held. Also, it will not stop at an intermediate point, only at full range within the "instrument" views. I can pick the individual instrument views, and successfully operate the buttons in them, but cannot look beyond those views, even in free movement. I've tried about 60% of the different camera settings/types/movements, and none of them have been the original "default" camera. As for the Drone, I can't figure that one out at all, but I digress.

Sorry to vent, things just not going smoothly in a lot of different things. I'll keep trying. I will get through this. Hopefully before I have to repair the hole in the wall. :mixed-smiley-027:

The only thing I can think of then would be to reset your control bindings to default and delete any stored configurations. Maybe then you can start over.

Yes, it is. I still can't get the 1.9.5.0 update, but 1.9.3.0 seems to be working fine, now. Just finished my longest flight since installing, 1:34:40, Sedona to Davis Monthan AFB, in the Cirrus SR-22, and then trying the two landing challenges flown in the Cessna 172. No problems. Gonna stay with what works, for now.

YoYo, what's flying in VR like? Do you just wear a headset and use your flight controls as normal? What VR setup do you recommend?

Here you have a little more about my opinion about VR (in P3D corner): https://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php/118109-VR-impressions-with-P3D-v4-5-(this-is-really-wow-for-me!) . I fly VR only from 2019 October in principle (excpet MSFS for sure). Its a totaly new kind of "home" flying adventure. I don't like a flat, boring monitor now ;). About setup you have in my signature, and here how it looks (what I did for VR flying, most comabt planes / sims). It's quite important to keep everything within reach. I use HP Reverb G1 revision2 (it offers the best resolution on the market and good performance but it isnt still monitor quality, maybe next 2 years..., but it's already acceptable to me). You can wait for G2 model (this Autumn, resolution will be the same plus few improvements). Here is my review (in Polish, you can use translate Google tool) http://yoyosims.pl/hp-reverb-wmr-recenzja . I hope it helps.

I'd like to further clean up the stickies section, so I need opinions. Would new threads be better for future MS updates, or would it be more confusing than having them all in one long thread?

YoYo
October 23rd, 2020, 08:32
I think the one will enough ... in the other situation we will have many threads as we will have patches (so perhaps a lot ;) ) and will be hard to follow it (some will write in the old thread, some will start a new ect). Its my sentence.

You have a point, but my biggest concern is having one long mega-thread with information that will become irrelevant, obsolete or even conflicting as time goes on. I want to make it easy for visitors to find what they're looking for without having to sift through 50+ pages of information in one thread.* Besides, staff members have the ability to take a reply to one thread and move them out as a new thread.

*Mega-threads such as the screenshots thread are different because they don't contain anything that would likely be confusing to readers as time progresses.

IMHO (but who am I?) A couple of threads would be clean and helpful:

- updates and patches
- fixes and tweaks
- ...

Just a thought!

So far the plan ;-)

We encountered some issues related to the autopilot across various planes right before we were set to release Update 5. We decided to take some extra time to address the issues to ensure that everyone will enjoy this update. It’s going to take a few days, but it is close! Thank you for your patience.

For me this version is a regression: with FSX aircrafts port-over MSFS, no more mouse rectangles !!! as the 1.7.x version

I have worked during 3 weeks for upgrade my Cessna Tibush, Taildragger and Hydra in order to propose a release for this week-end and and everything has to be redone. On theses aircrafts ONLY CTRL+E can function and you can interact with your mouse.

Many having CTDs with USB peripherals plugged in, big losses in FPS being reported for those that can run the sim and now this? It just keeps getting better and better. I was literally in the middle of testing an FSX legacy import when I was forced to start the upgrade. I may never get to finish if this mouse rectangle issue isn't refixed again. Jeez.

ya know what I'd like?? I'd like my throttles to move when i push them forward, not three seconds later, not after I've moved them half way no. I want the throttles to move when I push them. I dont think thats a lot to ask.

Same problem here. I had to do a reboot, default all game settings, then go back and set up everything again. Seemed to work for about 5 minutes, then CTD. Oh well. The cloud reflections on water looked pretty nice, maybe a bit overdone, but still nice. The sim now takes forever to load.

I wonder if it'll have a fix for the Live Weather. It got the snow right for us, but the wind was increased by a factor of 10 and was off by 90 degrees from actual, and ATIS said it was heavy rain, not snow (even though it showed light snow in the sim). Hmmm.

It looked cool in the windsocks though :)
And made for some fun crosswind landings :) (37 knots as opposed to 4 (I imagine it was supposed to be 3.7))
Pretty proud of myself for flying in a 37 knot direct crosswind in a 152! :icon_lol: (I'm imagining it wasn't actually 37 knots in the sim.. maybe? The socks were straight out.)
