KGSO is within one of the 400+ photogrammetry cities, so all of the surrounding neighborhoods are as accurate to life as they get. Noddy's shots also illustrate just how fantastic most of the default/non-handcrafted airports are in this sim.

Do you have any idea how much difference there is between the default and hand-crafted KSFO? I already know I'm going for at least the mid-grade version to get the steam gauge C172, but if the default San Francisco is good enough, I'll pass on the premium.

It's due East immediately next to Newbury in Berkshire, UK.
There might or might not be a runway there but you may be able to see where one once was - longest in Europe and Shuttle Contingency Landing Site. The GAMA nuke bunkers may be visible.

Probably hear it from "Dutch", our military airbase are blurred in bing.maps, and are not present in MFS.
They were blurred by request of our government lot's of years ago, years ago that was lifted, since then the airbase are visible in great detail in google.map yet remain blurred in bing.maps.
Also notes that the Dutch Sat maps in bing are very outdated compared to google.

Tom, you can buy the standard or deluxe versions and later purchase the extra aircraft/hand-crafted airports bundles if you want to via the in-game Marketplace. I went with the Premium Deluxe so I wouldn't be able to show what the default KSFO looks like.

Tieton State, Rimrock, Washington, a perfect spot for exploring in the XCub, the one I've flown the most in this sim by far.

The forests in this sim are absolutely glorious. The coloring of each tree is proceduraly generated based on the aerial imagery, so there are many thousands of different hues of greens through the trees, rather than just a single color, and it picks up on all of the "veins" of darker hues weaving and spreading patterns throughout the lighter-colored trees (different soil types, different levels of exposure to moisture and sun, etc.).

Unexpeditly smooth as silk. Really loads the RTX GPU and it gets hot. Load 100%, and 70C+. May need to liquid cool the GPU. The Ryzen 3900X is liquid cooled, 12 core, 24 thread. It seems to sleep through the whole thing. I assume the software is running multi-core. Also, make sure your card has the latest Nvidia Driver v452.06 just released for Flightsim. I have also eliminated a number of things. Like AI Aircraft, airport vehicles, People, Ships/Boats.... The landscapes are truly stunning. Still trying to figure out cameras/drone settings for best angles. This is shaping up to be a great tool for photography planning. I flew into some New Zealand areas that I have actually visited and was immediately emersed.

Amazing shots of San Francisco, you can tell the data is a bit old as Candlestick Park is stlll there, its demolition of the stadium was completed in September 2015.

What is everyone using to take screen shots? In FSX and P3D I could press V and it would save, so far best I can do in MSFS is press the print screen button then paste into the Paint app.

Some screenshots around default KMSP. Most of the real time airline traffic in the sim still has generic paint schemes, though the airline call signs are recognized and used in the ATC. Asobo mentioned in a Q&A last week that they have reached out to something like 26 of the world's largest airlines requesting permission to reproduce their liveries in the sim, and they are in the process of bringing those liveries to the sim for the AI traffic as they get permission to do so. There are already United Airlines liveries used by any of the real time United jets flying about the world in the sim.

Hi Dave,

This area is not covered by photogrammetry, so it is all AI-crafted. It's not the best, but an AI-generated version of the bridge is in the sim.

Here is the Auburn Airport. Many of the airport buildings/hangars are still missing so I will go ahead and send a report on it to Zendesk. There are several airports that I like to fly to around Minnesota that are still missing buildings/hangars as well, but they are aware of it via the Zendesk reports I've sent and these should be added in the coming monthly updates.

I agree, and especially if all they're going to do is repackage what they've already made for FSX/P3D, without redoing the models and textures to take advantage of the capabilities supported now in this sim.

I'm using FRAPS. Not figured out how to in sim yet.

I highly recommend looking for a program called OBS.

Only issue is if you are trying to use it with a laptop with one of those dual GPU setups, basically, for the laptop screen, it pretty much defaults screen capture to the MB GPU and you have to do some workarounds to get it to record from the dedicated GPU (if there is one). The best way is to hook up a separate display, separate screens are typically set up to use the dedicated GPU.

I agree, and especially if all they're going to do is repackage what they've already made for FSX/P3D, without redoing the models and textures to take advantage of the capabilities supported now in this sim.

I second that, and by the way, if your into ORBX, DO NOT buy the london scenery pack, it's basically recycled stuff from older sims and is much worse than the default scenery.

I saw elsewhere it was mentioned that ORBX stated yesterday they will be releasing an update to their London City Landmarks product to improve on it following a lot of negative critiques about the poor quality compared to the world landmarks modeled by Asobo, which are incredibly intricate and detailed in this sim.

I picked up LOWI from ORBX to see how it would look in the new sim. Discounted as a previous owner of this area in FSX. At first there was a huge frame hit, but after a few minutes the framerates came back to normal with smooth flying. it looks very good but at first glance, it appears as just a port over from their FSX products. So time will tell what they do to improve on these. As good as the base 2020 sim is, there are many of my favorite airports lacking in detail. Milford Sound, Edwards AFB, Juneau, Catalina Avalon... to name a few. As the screen shots show, the natural world is spectacular.

To be fair though, the night lighting and detail of the London landmarks addon which was for sale on day one of msfs release - it is really bad.

I bought it and assumed it would be up-to-date from the screenshots available on the download page - I was mistaken!!

I would've thought Orbx was on the beta, so had longer than a few hours to put that together......

Glad to hear it'll be updated to fit in better.

Hello john, well auburn looks a ton better than in the past simulators ive had over the years, and atleast there is a bridge there! lol.thank you much for the screen shots.can i ask for one more set?
i now live in Stockton Ca,im in a marina called riverpoint landing marina and rv park,4950 Buckley Cove Way.there are three marinas out here all grouped together,Riverpoint,Ladds and the stockton sailing club, and there is a public boat launch between us and ladds.could you do me a few of this buckley cove area, the upriver(south really)to the port of stockton, and a few of the surrounding delta areas? believe it or not, there have been several times that float planes have landed on the stockton deep water channel..the reason i find it odd they do is how busy with boat traffic it usually is.

Here are some screenshots from the areas you asked about, Dave. The marinas sometimes don't always show up very well due to the auto-generated water masking, and unfortunately most of the marina detail in Buckley Cove is masked in water. As long as an area like this is reported to Zendesk, there is always some hope that it might eventually be hand-edited and updated in the future.

Very nice shot, DVJ! I was really amazed at just how detailed the Egyptian pyramids and surrounding structures are depicted. The same applies to all of the hand-modeled "points of interest" that Asobo modeled themselves throughout the world scenery. Standing underneath the Eiffel Tower for instance, and looking up at all of the intricate structure is just fantastic.

Here are some late evening/night shots. Note in some of the screenshots the reflections of the ground lighting on the bottom surfaces of the aircraft. On some buildings at night, you'll actually see a window or two where it looks like someone is watching TV inside with the lights off, with a blue-lit room and the level of light changes/flickers.

Great shots, Rick, and thank you DVJ (it was one of about 20 screenshots I decided between).

Here are a couple more recent shots that I really liked illustrating how all of the reflections in the sim are real/live/active. Also, there are no "night textures" in this sim, all of the lighting comes directly from the light sources, and the light sources illuminate every surface type (planes, buildings, ground, water, and even the clouds). Again, this is all default, straight out of the box what you're seeing.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50252373267_31f59298f9_k.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2jyCxNK)

All of the cockpit lighting in the default aircraft is fully adjustable just as it is in the real aircraft, and is exactly what we've come to expect from the highest quality payware aircraft. Here in the default Cessna 172, you can independently adjust the dimness and brightness of the instrument lighting, the avionics lighting, the panel lighting, the floor lighting, the overhead lighting (left and right also independently), etc., and all using the same controls as in the real aircraft and operated by dialing in just the setting you want just as in the real aircraft. Note too the real, live, active reflections of the instruments in the window - you can actually read the gauge and avionics readouts, live, just by looking at them in the reflections (of course mirrored as they should be).

I use the Xbox Game Bar default key combo of Windows Key+Alt+Print Screen. This automatically saves each screenshot to a folder in .png format and then later I open each that I want to save for the web in PSP and save as .jpegs.

It's done using the showcase camera, and within the showcase camera options menu under "Drone Focus Mode" you need to set it to either Auto or Manual (if you want to adjust it yourself).

Yeah, there are a lot of scenery bugs, such as "bumpy" rivers and parts where rivers and lakes stick hundreds of feet above the ground. It will all be fixed eventually. These are a couple of shots of my flight from Fairbanks (PAFA) to Anchorage (PAMR). I used live weather for the first time. It became so dark under the cloud cover I had to turn on the instrument lights (I thought that was awesome). I basically just followed the river that runs through the Denali park to navigate. Other than the terrain anomalies, and some terrain tears, it was absolutely amazing. I bumped some of my sliders up a little bit and got some stutters/pauses when I got to Anchorage, but I can live with that until I upgrade my system. Having said that, I am completely amazed at what this sim is capable of already.

Does anyone know how to change the aircraft ID? We're supposed to be able to change that, at least that's what I read somewhere. Do we have to change it in the config file?
In the aircraft selection screen, look to the left for ATC options.

Tom Clayton
August 23rd, 2020, 19:09
And while we're on the subject, there's also a Callsign option. If you're running Azure for the speech engine, you can literally type in anything and that's what ATC will call you - even something obscene! :biggrin-new:

Rob, it's nice to see you got the 'cuda into MSFS. I assume that means you'll be bringing more of your planes into the new sim? I'm looking forward to them.

Still flying around Alaska. Airports missing and incomplete there. I know it will all be fixed in good time, loving it just the same.

The Barracuda is just a port over, the real thing could take a lot longer.
The sim is so perfect in every way that it would be sacrilege to add home made stuff!

Bomber - how do you get such blitzingly good screen shots?
My scenery and aircraft look great but my screen shots lose something in translation.
I'm doing Winkey + Shift + S and then pasting that in to Paint and saving as jpeg.

Jim, my process I don't think is much different. I use the Xbox Game Bar function of Winkey+Alt+PrtSc and it saves the images to a folder in .png format. I then open them in PaintShopPro and save them as .jpegs in native resolution, at the lowest compression/highest quality, and the versions I post here are automatically reduced in size by Flickr.

Ummm, maybe the .png capture has something to do with it.
I shall experiment further when I go "up" this afternoon.

This new offering by MS and Team looks amazing ! Thanks for the great series of screenshots everyone. Would love to see what The Bahamas looks like , especially Rum Cay and San Salvador. Need to start saving for a new PC and monitor ! Mike :wavey:

Watermasks are a work in progress and for most of the world, water is still completely opaque. I dont know about The Bahamas, but Turks & Cocoas looks incredible. A taste of things to come. I'll try and post something today for you.

Some of the outlying islands near The Bahamas features the shallow water masking, but as mentioned though, there is going to be a lot more of such features coming in the future (each hand-edited) and the main islands don't yet feature the shallow water detail.

I'll also echo Noddy by saying it is great to see you back, Bob!

Nice to see you back BB. John, which island is that? Is that the one across (south) from St. Martin? I can't remember the name of it right now. BTW, If you crash, save the flight, then reload it, and the plane will be in the exact spot right side up and running. Let's call it an educated guess. ;)

The island is Saba, which is all hand-crafted, and the airport is called TNCS Juancho E. Yrausquin. I set the record for the landing challenge there the last week before launch, the only I was ever on the leader board. :)

Storm front. Playing god in the desert. You can set up these storms, wind, time of day, etc. The environmentals are quite fun. You get rain flying into those clouds, in fact if you sit in one spot ahead of the front, the rain and wind catches up to you.

I heard the song "American Pie" again today, and being a Buddy Holly fan anyway, I thought I would do a flight from Mason City, near Clear Lake, and fly out over/near the famous Surf Ballroom. I also flew out over the field where the memorial is located near the location where the plane went down in 1959, but I didn't think it was right to take/post screenshots of that. From that experience, seeing how close the location was to that of the airport, I felt an even greater sense of the tragidy/just shouldn't have happened.

I really like this paint scheme on the Pitts (available from MSFSAddons.org - reminds me a bit of Kessler's DR.1 in "The Great Waldo Pepper")

The arrow points to the Surf Ballroom.

Just a couple "air-to-air" screenshots I Liked.

Can anyone get some shots around KILG/New Castle County (Wilmington, Delaware) and surrounding areas including the Delaware Memorial Bridge? I live near these 2 places and they were represented badly in previous versions of MSFS and XP.

Terrific shots! The one with the cirrus in the NW corner is perfect! I was up in DLH this morning and it was very foggy....almost overcast till I got down past Forest Lake.

I know we've come to expect this detail in the very best payware aircraft for P3D/FSX, but here it is in every one of the default aircraft, inside and out.

Great shots! Why just porting over FSX aircraft could be disappointing. I think a lot of work will need to be redone, or just simply keep FSX and fly those aircraft there.
