OT- fake or photo [Archive]

Boomer sent me this the other day since we both use Max and do 3D work. I am used to this kind or realism, but my GF was just amazed that ANY of these images could even be in 3D, so I thought you guys might get a kick out if this little quiz. Let us know how you did.

I got 11 out of 12. The gavel got me.

I have a bit of advantage because autodesk has been doing these for awhile & I have learned what to look for.

Its amazing what the best of the best can accomplish.

9 out of 12, missed the speaker, bulb, and blinds. That bulb looks awefully fake to me, and the light glow on the cord for the blinds looked uneven to me. I can't even remember what I said for the speaker, but remember waffling because of the verticle seam in the case.

I got 7 out of 12

The I-pod, teddy, glass, gavel and most unforgivable for me tower bridge got me.
I rode over it twice today LOL

It did confirm something to me that I had long believed, no matter how good you think you are, there is always some one better :).

How bout fake or (Photo real)? Some or all of those objects probably had real photos mapped on them..kind of a mute test to me..How bout a real test --Fake animation or real..then it would be easy

I dont know. Being as the idea of CGI and all that is to be as real as possible, I think anything is game. The idea of the "game" is for it to be tough to tell, not easy!

they would have had phtoreal textures on them, in which case it would be off wood, stones, metal etc that have been modified to fit the uvs of the model (if they did unwraped them). After that you then have to get the lights right, and its them that can make or break a render, get the lights wrong and even if you used photoreal textures throughout it wouldnt look right. :engel016:

I dont know. Being as the idea of CGI and all that is to be as real as possible, I think anything is game. The idea of the "game" is for it to be tough to tell, not easy!

I actually think that the idea CGI is to use it to do things you wouldnt otherwise be able to do in real life, it doesnt have to be real as possible, it can be whatever you want it to be :wave:
