In the past, when they built aircraft carriers they took scrap aluminum and made souvenirs to commemorate the ship's commisioning. One of my buddies, the commander of my DAV chapter had one handed down from his father, who hepled build the USS Enterprise CV6. He managed to get another from the later, current CVN Enterprise. In this case they are a pair of ashtrays. He brought them in and let me take some pictures:

You're welcome. Ans a salute to your dad. As I understand, they don't do this anymore with the newer ships at Newport News Shipyards.

I guess the "Big E" CV6 still lives on!
