Hi folks;
I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction for a step by step tutorial in dressing up some of the stock files in CFS1. I have been searching all over for one and can't seem to find one that helps me.:banghead: I did d/l one tutorial and tried to follow it, but it applied to FS98 not CFS1, and some of the keys it described are not reflected on what I have displayed in front of me. Is there one for CFS, or do I stay with FS98? How can I access these files and alter for giggles.
What I would like to do is take some of the stock files, and maybe even some of the downloaded one, and dress up the runway, and area, with some lights for approach, runway, tarmac, and taxi,for my own enjoyment. This would be like the Fijord download. BTW my thanks to that person( sorry, but name escapes me at this moment) for such a great runway and area. Love it!!!
I am not a geek I have some knowledge of computers ( I can turn it on!!! :applause: ) and workings so please keep it as simple as possible and not too complicated!:isadizzy:.
I have a Dell 266 p2 with 192 RAM and a Voodoo 3/2000 with 98SE. ( A dinosaur but it works for me, for now)

Hi Fibber!
I'm not sure of what you're asking for but I will try.
What do you want to "dress-up":
- scenery (airports, airfields, hangar, that sort of things...)?
If so, you should have a look into:
http://www.simviation.com/cfs1utilitites1.htm
There is plenty of program to do that.
You may also simply use the "built-in" scenery maker of CFS1.
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=cfs&file=cfsedit.zip
It does include, if I remember well, the possibility to add lights to airfields.
Am'I on the right track so far?

Hubba-------;
Thanks for your reply. You did hit it. All I want to do, at this stage, is add some eyecandy to some of the fields in the stock missions such as "Clobber College". Those fields when you return look so blah!
Like I posted, I was envisioning some tarmac with stripes, lights for the runways, taxiways and maybe some more buildings. I tried Chuck Domes runway utility, and the CFS editor, but hit a stonewall :banghead: when I try to incorporate into the mission files. I understand that it is coded into the BGL's but I can't seem to find what I need to open those and try to comprehend what I need to do.
There are so many utilities, and add-on/editor files, but they all seem to pertain to different FS's and it gets confusing as to which one would help me. I may poke around some more and see if either Martin Wright or Chuck Dome has a site.
Like you, I also have competition for the computer :rocket: and it is like that tv commercial to see who gets to the shower first, only here it is the computer!

Hi Fibber!
You're getting out of my field of competence here. I do know how to make scenery - mostly airport and airfields - and objects to go - hangar, towers, etc... - but what you are asking goes way beyond that.
In a mission, scenery is created exclusively for that mission. For example, in "First attack from across the Chanel", you get to fight over Guernsey Island where you will see a Tower, some hangars and barracks among other things. Now go in "freeflight" to the same place - nothing is there! (Unless, of course, you have installed some scenic objects there).
In a mission, the objects may explode. They may also shoot at you or at the enemy (ack ack, boats and so on). This is because they are associated with DP (damage profile) files, a bit like a/c.
Each mission files has to select those objects, place them where you want them, make them friend or foe... and it goes on and on.
I would suggest that you start by making simple mission with some mission editor and expand from that. But, as I told you in the beginning, it is way out of my competence.
Who knows, you may teach me a couple of things on that subject in a near future. You may try to post a thread in "Campaign & Mission Building" but it seems pretty dead out there.
Sorry...

Thanks for your replies and sorry for being remiss on not promptly responding but had a slight accident at home over the X-mas holidays :isadizzy: and that took priority. Still not right, guess the older you get the longer the healing.
Anyway, if I do find a way I'll post to you. The truth is out there somewhere! :wavey:

Greetings Fibber,
Hope you are well. I would echo Hubbabubba's post, try the built in scenery maker and do it your way.
As for lights, I don't know, all though, There is a nice set of search lights by Arno Brooks, who, BTW, has done some very nice Scenery Addons for CFS. I believe that you can find them at Simviation. There are many Scenery Addons there, bases, etc. But becareful, some are not compatible with others and strange things can happen.
There is also a good Scenery Addon Tutorial in Grumpy's Lair at Simviation. Sorry, I don't have the link handy. I'l try to get it by this time tomorrow.
Hope this helps.

Quicker than I thought, Check this page, lots of stuff here, the bottom section has a tutorial explaining how to use the built in scenery maker. The page will also take you to Addons for CFS 1,2 & 3

This one will take you to Grumpy's Lair for many tutorials
