Sad news indeed. My thoughts go to the pilot and his relatives. Aircraft, even rare ones can always be rebuild.

Nothing left to rebuild. :( I have mixed feelings about one-of-a-kind planes continuing to fly. Flying Heritage has an FW-190D-9 and Nakajima Oscar that could fly but don't because they are the last of their kind.

Condolences to the pilot's family. Such a shame to lose a pilot of historic aircraft and a one-of-a-kind piece of history.

saw it fly at Gillespie Field many times over the years...this is sad news.

I think I have to agree that when we're down to the last surviving original air frame it's time to stop flying it.

Make copies of it if you like, using the parts as templates and the original drawings if you have them - but put the original in a nice safe museum.

hindsight being perfect and all..
