View Full Version : 2 More New Items for TR's B-25's

The first is a skin for Standard B-25C/D "Tokyo Sleeper" of the 405th BS. This skin is good for the PNG area from '42 when they arrived up to Mid '43. Before they got into the wild paint jobs. In July of '43 she was converted to a C-1 and server until March of '44.

The Second is a the 300 Gallon Internal Drop Tank created by Pappy Gunn to replace the useless ventral turret on the B-25C-1 Commerce Destroyers. This tank greatly extended the range of the B-25. Making the strikes at far flung locations like Wewak, But, Rabaul and Kavieng possible from their fields at Port Moresby.

Both have been uploaded.

And the tank will work nicely on both the regular and gunship versions of the 25, AND be a necessity for those long missions. :engel016:

Right now I'm using Philippe Buranage's MosquitoBombBayTank with just a portion of it showing in the BB for the Regular C/D model. That is until I can locate a good photo of the correct one.

...that's ~six(6) pounds/gal, ...or 1800 pounds, ...at ten feet, ....

...that's 18,000 foot-pounds of torque!

Hey BD;

Well 600+ of it was made up with the loss of the turret and all of it's junk, plus ammo. I didn't design the thing, that was Pappy Gunn. He came up with some seriously out of the box ideas and made almost all of them work. Much to the Allies advantage.

The Engineers at Wright Patterson told Pappy the same thing about the COG of his Commerce Killers. They said they're dangerous and should all be grounded. He told them to put the COG in storage for the duration, we had a war to win. After what the 90th BS did with them during the BoBS not another peep was heard out of W/P or anyone else for that matter. They couldn't convert them fast enough. Read some of the stories about him. He flew his hopped up battleshipesque B-25's like he was in a P-38.

Google "Pappy Gunn", the guy was something special and a true forgotten hero of Aviation.

It worked fine in the real plane and works fine in the Sim......that's why we gave you TRIM and a strong arm. :173go1:

Fixed it.

Problem:
(-)18,000 ft-lbs trim:

Equation:
(-)18,000 ft-lbs

- negative (+) 6,000 ft-lbs for the turret/ammo.

+ positive (+) 11,700 ft-lbs additional crew.
+ positive (+) 300 ft-lbs for 3 gal. of lubrication fluid.

= (+) 18,000 ft-lbs = 0 Delta trim.

Solution:

unused B/N station (+) 15 ft from CL.

Added:
seven(7) 110 lb native girls.
one(1) case/scotch.

I was on the way back to my stables from the Scottsdale Parada Del Sol Parade this afternoon. Just as we got off the freeway this flew over.
CAF visits Deer Valley Airport quite often in the winter but I've never seen this one around before.

Must be B-25 Daze.... Too Weird...

I remember years ago, I was out on my sailboat on Lake Winnebago, about 2 miles off Oshkosh while they were holding the EAA Fly-In . I heard this nasty radial engine growl and was promptly buzzed by a B-25, escorted by a F4F and a SeaFury, as I recall. They must have been under a couple of hundred feet flying out over the lake at that time. It was EXCITING ... but jeez ... I thought what it must have been like to have been on the receiving end! Just plain SCARY!!!!!!

...75mm muzzle! I'll bet she lost 15mph of airspeed every time that monster fired....and probably popped 50-60 rivets in the process. Hell on the airframe's lifespan. :caked:

He couldn't have missed us that's for sure. My Horse Trailer alone is 35' from the Gooseneck to the bumber and I drive real, real easy when I've got the ponies onboard.

They must have been giving rides too. I heard them buzzing around all afternoon. No mistaking the sound of that one for a Civie. In the past they've had Sentimental Journey (B-17G), FiFi (B-29) and a Desert schemed B-24 out there. Years ago they used to go to Falcon Field in Mesa all of the time. But ever since the Fighter Museum shut down it seems like Deer Valley is their Phoenix area favorite. Which is fine by me. I only live about 2 miles from the airport.

And probably a fair amount of enamel off the crew's teeth.

Update: Barbie III is wintering at Facon Field in Mesa. She's spending a couple of days up here at Cutter Aviation. She is the only flying B-25H and was one of only 10 built with dual flight controls. She belongs to Warbirds unlimited. http://www.warbirdsunlimited.org/

Another New Skin on the way. This is one of the first operational B-25C-1's with the 90th BS. "Chatter Box" flown by Capt. Bob Chatt. Chatt led the 3rd section during the morning attack on Convoy 81 (BoBS). He dropped/skipped all four of his 500lb'ers on/at Arashio scoring three hits and a near miss.

She's almost ready..

Thanks to SC's texture templates we "Decal Stickers" can actually produce some good skins.
