Just got cfs2 and installed it. Getting it set up and can't figure out a couple of simple things.

How can I set up my joystick hat to pan?

How can I free fly in other parts of the world than the south pacific?

My copy, which is new, didn't come with a manual not even a pdf so far as I can tell. I see on ebay how I can get one but it will take a couple of weeks. In the meantime I'll likely have a few more questions as dumb as these so please bear with me.

rich12545,
If you start up CFS2 and hit the "Settings" button and then "Calibrate Joystick". If nothing is showing in the box for "Game Controller", click on "Add" and see if your stick is on the list.
If you have your controller recognized click on "Properties", click on the "Test" tab and you can check the buttons and hat for panning.

This is assuming that CFS2 has recognized your joystick, it's so long since I set up mine I've almost forgotten how!

There is lots of scenery to be found, try the "Add-ons" at the top of the page. You can find runways/airports for most areas as well as campaigns with everything included.
You can also find people who are better at explaining these things here too.:amen:

Hi and welcome, i am new too, and everyone has been very helpful. sorrya bout that manual thing, it was included as a printed manual i think, i got the orignal big box set after searching a lot, and it is quite large sized and there was an aadditional huge book that came with it too. I looked on replacementdocs.com which usually has many older manuals on line but they only have CFS and CFS3, the comands are simliar fo CFS (1) so that may help you to get that copy and study it.

this may help, Guide to Key board commands....thanks to Dirtman
posted at end of this post....

re the other theatres, you have to add them via player made mods as the original game did not have them, but there are a ton of great mods that add a huge number of fields ..even one that gives a few in the USA, on the east coast. There is a reinassance going on it looks like and some great mod work being done adding top quality bases, some of my favorites and really well done are by:

All of Lindsay Watts'(Maskrider) infrastructure
Xavier Berdaguer look for his full pack called eawwii full
Achim (they will be labeled JHS in the name)
Gary Burns Battle of Britain plus London and Dover
Ettico's EuroTarget Series
Any Campaigns and info by Rami
All of (Pen32Win)'s infrastructure, he has some for Europe and is making great ones for the Pacific now
AtlanticWall_Bunkers by Jim Jacobson
All of Xavier Berdaguer's infrastructure (including "xbp.japan")
cfs2bob (you only need the infrastructure objects) by Gary Burns
All of Steven Barstow's (Stiz) infrastructure
All of Wolfgang Faber's (Wolfi) infrastructure
Dog1's new and great bases and enhancements
as you load these they will guide you to the objects you need to add to get the full benefit
plus the new improved LOD7 Mesh for the entire world
New LOD 7 Mesh by Rhumbaflappy!
new coastlines and more by psullykeys,

and much much more, this is just a tiny start :) and most know far more than i do

re the 3D views BlueDevil came to my rescue on that: here is what he suggests:

ACM 3D Cockpit

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Set CFS2 default to 3D cockpit/0.64 zoom

When CFS2 loads, you will be in the 3D cockpit at 0.64 zoom. (as opposed to 0.50)

To locate (or re-locate) 0.64 zoom:

Zoom out w/ open bracket “[“ key all the way out.
Then

Zoom in w/ close bracket “]” key one (1) click in to 0.64 zoom
Install:
CFS2/ SITUATIO folder

defair.flt
defgnd.flt

Note: Remove the ".txt" from the file name.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Set Aircraft 3Dc views to Forward_left, Forward (look down panel), Forward_right, Back_up, and Forward_up (look up/lean-in gunsight)

Add:
CFS2/ AIRCRAFT/(your A/C)/ PANEL/” panel.cfg” file

[VIEWS]
VIEW_FORWARD_EYE=0.00, 0.00, 0.00 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=15.00, 0.00, 0.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_REAR_UP_EYE=0.00, 0.00, 0.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_REAR_UP_DIR=-15.00, 0.00, 180.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView

VIEW_FORWARD_UP_EYE=0.000, 0.00, 0.100 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_FORWARD_UP_DIR=-10.00, 0.000, 0.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView

VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_EYE=0.00, 0.00, 0.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=0.00, 0.00, -45.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_EYE=0.00, 0.00, 0.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView
VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=0.00, 0.00, 45.000 // 3Dc.2 PanelView

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program the Stick: (and Cowl flaps and Pitch Trim on the keyboard)

Program stick to button views:
Upper left = Forward (look down panel)

Program base to button controls:
Left top = Flaps (up)
Left middle = Flaps (down)

Right top = Prop RPM (increase)
Right middle = Prop RPM (decrease)
Note: slow single quick clicks = small increments, …fast multiple clicks = large increments.

Left bottom = Ordnance select
Right Bottom = Ordnance release

Open CFS2/ Settings…/controller assignments…/ and assign the following joystick buttons:

Cycle Ordinance Selection Button 11
Decrease prop RPM Button 10
Extend flaps/Concord nose & visor (in increments) Button 09
Fire all guns Button 01
Increase prop RPM quickly Button 08
Look ahead Button 05

Then run the program once(1), …then exit CFS2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make the Buttons “sticky”

This will allow you to pan (hat switch) from any view button selected.

Remove the “BUTTON_UP_EVENT_xx=VIEW_RESET” from the view buttons, …and set the RPM repeaters to “10”.

Open CFS2/”CFS2.cfg” file.

Set the A/C 3Dc viewpoint location:

This positions the “eyeball” of the player w/in the 3D cockpit.

Here are a few prime stock (DB or B24Guy’s OH) A/C eyeball locations:

//(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

Copy and paste these [Views] into:

CFS2/ AIRCRAFT/(your A/C)/ “aircraft.cfg” file.

Wow. Lots of good stuff. Yeah, it will help a lot and many thanks. I'm going to print it out.

Re the manual, there are a couple available on ebay but it will be several days before the auctions are over. I hope to get one for not very much. Over 300 pages.

Rich,

You can fly anywhere in the world (except near the north and south poles) by going to "free flight", the click on "start location", then click "exact location" and give the latitude, longitude and altitude desired. But in the stock game only the South Pacific conflict area has detailed scenery. The rest of the world is pretty crude but you can fix that with add on scenery as you go along.
