Oil Temp (gauge) doesn't work.

I'm not able to duplicate this error. Here is the gauge in my version of P3D 4.1. why would it be different in 4.4? Its the same gauge as in our earlier release. I have the solution of the error message and will post in a separate thread

For platforms: download the .zip file and extract to a temp folder. Select your sim platform and the replace the panel.cfg file in your model with the appropriate version. This will correct the error on loading and provide for VC cockpit sounds.

Paul,

First a thank you for the fine plane. I already had the stearman but this is a nice addition.
I had the same error in FSX (steam) and solved it by editing the configuration file in the panel directory. I marked the faulty directory name in the screenshot.

This was my bad. When I created the new model I cloned the panel file from the IB75A and neglected to update the string for the new model folder. Because I have the Super Stearman installed it did not error out. I suggest that all update the panel config file and then revert the aircraft folder name to GAS_Stearman_A75_AG. Doing so may avoid problems if you plan on obtaining the full upcoming package. NOTAM P3D v4 users need to use the file provided for that platform.

Going for a run around the patch in this at Pioneer airport in Oshkosh. Will take the Ryan SC-W I purchased today around next then Vertigo's Dauntless. (Although that one will need at least 9/27 to get going!) I was going to get the NAF N3N that I thought you guys were working on and had released too, but I couldn't find it on FS Pilotshop or your site. Do I have my developers mixed up? Merry Christmas you guys and thanks for this demo!

the N3N is NOT a Golden Age Simulations development. Sorry if my posts about that aeroplane were misleading.

Also it is still under development and not in a release state - however - the Stearman N2S and PT13 and PT17 are from GAS and are available if you don't have them yet..

Thanks for the Demo version Paul, I have been enjoying the first Stearman package and this is a great preview of the super package. After reading the description pages about the header tank I did some experiments to see what the fuel gauge would look like at various fuel levels and think I discovered a small bug in that gauge where it looks like the needle is spinning the wrong way. Here are few pics where you can see the fuel level and the gauge. This was done with P3D v4.4

This is the second issue I'm seeing with P3D 4.4 which is not present in and prior version of P3D v4. We may be an the end of compatibility of I can't figure out what changed in the most recent update. BY the way for the AG version the header tank is removed and the fuel capacity at 65 gallons indicated when the tank is full. Either way that gauge functions normally, as I've said in earlier versions of V4. While you are experimenting, is the oit temp gauge functioning properly on your install. YoYo reported a problem on his. Thanks

Ok, a little free time after the Christmas table :biggrin-new:.
Second flight.

1/ the new panel.cfg + sound = no any problem at P3Dv4.4.
2/ about Oil Temperature gauge. Please forget! False alarm. I didnt notice that.... Crop duster engine has prop pitch lever (not like old Stearman) so I used it with the least RPM level! So it works : ).
3/ Yes, I can confirm issue with Fuel quantinty (noticed by blanston12). Please see this screen. It was about 60% of fuel but the arrow shows me level outside the scale.

generally speaking most post war conversions went with an internal electric start which we chose to do. So no there won’t be one on any of the models to be published except perhaps the B76 float plane.

The other SHIFT + 2/3/4 work fine - no panel (Shift +1)...... Not sure if this was just a place setter for the other panels.

Paul and Gil,

it's all been said before, but many, many, thanks for your great products over the years, I have many of them. (My wife says the bearded gent with the "G'day Guv" cap in the Stinson looks very much like her husband and therefore she too likes your products). No and not planned it would require a completely new set of FD files and when it come to the Ag version of the Stearman there are so many variations that it’s just impossible to present all. Got to draw the line some where.

I would agree fully with you here - if only the player / aviator spawned next to the airplane, insted of in the cockpit. But since FSX and every single other flight sim starts you off in the ‘pit and assumes the walk around..and since you have to exit the plane (by viewpoint only) in order to perform a walkaround, the immersion factor is ruptured at the outset. I like the features as implemented by A2A ie: cherokee and cub etc... but you are ‘born’ in the cockpit viewpoint so whether the 3D representation is there or must be selected seems superfluous to me. Like adding the cost of ten yards of fabric to the price of a suit just to make a pocket square for it.

I've received no negative input regarding the presence or absence of the pilot when the a/c loads but it would seem to me that when asked most prefer to see the little guy when the plane loads which kind of make sense since the player spawns in the VC. I prefer it as well. There is always the possibility of providing an updater in the final release that would allow the end user the option of reverting the modle and config file to empty cockpit on load out.

now - I had to borrow the sprayer effect from the Alabeo PA36 because they seem to have solved the problem of frame rate impact.
I wish I could say it was my own effort - but if you have either of the Alabeo Aggies (PA36 or the Cessna Agwagon) you can make the quick adjustment yourself.

I hope it's ok with the fellers at GAS - but it just makes a huge difference and no extry effort on their part at all..

Here is the patch for version 2.0 If you are downloading the aircraft after 2:30 pm EST today you will not require it. This patch corrects texture issues identified in YoYo's post #125 on page 5. It also updates the tool tip for the spray activation and adds a "Clear Prop!" call out to the engine start sequence (courtesy of YoYo) If you don't want that delete SND20 in the Stearman folder found in the main sound folder.

NOTAM - Aircraft fuel system - It reflects the FAA approved real world solution to high fuel consumption with the 450 Pratt This is referenced in the aircraft reference document that may be accessed in the a/c knee board. Please review so you can be assured that there is nothing wrong with your model and you are aware if you run the fuel level to zero indicated.

Except for aircraft certified under the Restricted category as crop dusters or sprayers prior to October 11, 1950, the maximum takeoff and landing weights are 3,200 pounds.

Because aircraft modified under these standards did not come from the Boeing/Stearman factory, there is no factory published performance data. The performance data listed below was determined by actual flight testing done in this or a similarly modified airplane.

Because the Pratt & Whitney engine can burn significantly more fuel per hour than the stock Continental, Lycoming, and Jacobs engines, some customers had requested that to add an auxiliary fuel tank when the conversions were being done. There is no provision in the airplane's Type Certificate Data Sheet for an additional auxiliary fuel tank, the solution was to secure a "field approval" from the local FAA FSDO to install a 20 gallon "header" tank. This is reflected in the model you have.

Please understand that a header tank is not an auxiliary tank per se. It is a tank plumbed in line between the airplane's main fuel tank and the carburetor, usually intended to maintain "head" pressure to the carburetor. For this reason, it is important for the operator to remember these three important points.

1) There is no separate position for the header tank on the airplane's fuel selector valve. When the fuel selector is in the ON position, fuel flows from the main tank through the header tank until the main tank is empty, after which the engine burns the fuel in the header tank.

2) There is no way to fill the header tank directly. When fuel is loaded into the main tank, it flows through the main tank into the header tank until the header tank is full, after which the fuel fills the main tank.

3) There is no fuel quantity gauge for the header tank. The FAA was very specific on this point; adding a fuel gauge would void the approval for the installation. The only fuel gauge in the airplane measures the quantity in the main fuel tank. When the fuel gauge reads EMPTY, the only fuel remaining is the fuel in the header tank. Depending upon how much power you are pulling, this should give you enough fuel to fly for approximately 1:00 to 1:15 before all fuel is exhausted and the engine quits.

I just noticed this fine aircraft has an autoinstaller.

As I like to keep track of what is installed where in my FSX, I have always been more comfortable doing a manual install route for most aircraft (esp. beta test etc.), where possible.

Does anyone know how to go about installing this ac manually ? I remember reading somewhere a long time ago about setting up a fake FSX folder and pointing the autoinstaller to it, then just manually moving the files to the real FSX folder, but cannot remember the details of how to do this ?

Cheers,

Okay create a folder on your desktop or any other safe place you wish. Note the file location. Start the installer select FSX and when prompted direct the installer to your safe place. When satisfied run the installer. After that it up to you to place all the parts in the right place and you own the outcome. Don’t come. back to us for errors. You do it you own it.

hey YoYo - thanks for the accu feel reminder -

you might want to bump up your 'wind volume' and 'prop/turbine volume' near max too - pilot is sitting 'outside' after all..

also 'drag rumble' from having all those struts and wires in the wind...

Then look at 'brake squeal' and 'tire screech' - pilot is placed almost directly over the main wheels - I bumped up the screech a bit more than 'brake squeal' but both should be higher than 50%

Lastly top right 'Master Volume' is maxed out for these biplanes on my end but of course everyone is different. Give it a try though..even with a helmet on most of the ruckus gets through to the pilot's ears

Really guys?!!! fussing over tire screech? My GAWD!!!! enough. I'm done good night

Just a heads up, guys: if you ever hear pronounced tire screech in a real Stearman, you done messed up bad, and the next thing you hear will be the string of curses flowing from your own mouth as you come to rest in the ditch. You simply can't fly the real airplane in a way that generates screeching tires.

As always, adjust your own sim to your own liking, though.

The old Cherokee I have flown in always had a clear chirping of the mains as they went from dead still on touchdown to the 70mph or so landing speed.

I don't set the thing to hear the sound of a Challenger doing donuts in the stadium parking lot..FWIW
