I feel like I need to start a "Fred says" type thread!
Anyway, here's another one, hot off the presses:
"Lots of stuff like that the pilots would pull on each other. The most common, airborne, trick was "thumping" some other pilot. Here's how it works.
You are out flying and you see some guy flying along, straight and level. He does not know you are there. You get behind him, and above it. Cobb the power to your plane, dive and really pick up some speed. Then fly under him, in the same direction and pull up quickly as soon as you are clear. He flies right through your jet wash. He's been "thumped"....."
