Post your P3D v4 Screen shots here.

I'll kick it off with the Abrams P1 Explorer over photo real Las Vegas. I haven't added any custom autogen for LV yet, but there are no real challenges in migrating existing assets if you know how to go about it.

Note:
The Abrams is a WIP and translated into V4 quite elegantly, looking and performing even better than V3. Averaged 60-70 FPS on the flight from KBIH to KLAS. On the ground more like 30 FPS in my high def KBIH scenery, but gained quickly when the view was not looking down the barrel of the high autogen saturation in that scenery package.

Note the heavy volumetric haze in the custom weather setup. This should be a giant killer, but no real problem. The biggest FPS killer will be Dynamic Reflections so use it at a level that you find amiable with your system.

As of this flight, ChasePlane has updated itself with an experimental P3D v4 build now functional. Those guys are on the ball. :very_drunk:

Very impressed with 4. I was running 2.5 for the last few years and was hoping LM would come out with a 64bit ver.

Now I can honestly say that I am happy to have a new sim.

It runs really nice. :applause:

Is that the IRIS TacPack A-10 ?
Did you get the load manager to work in P3Dv4 ? I thought the 32 bits DLLs wouldn't work ?
EDIT: simple, yet superb shot ! :dizzy:

Just a couple of shots of Piglets A29B which Im using in Prepar3d4. Still a great plane to fly in the sim.
This is taking over southern Florida in pending storms.
So far added all the Orbx scenery I have along with Rex Essential with overdrive. No issues. Also was able to fly Iris Mudhen F15E with metal2metal installed. Could not get the Milviz F15E to work.
I'm pretty happy so far with 4.0. The migration so far has really been easier than I imagine it would be.
This sim runs very well right out of the box.

In another thread i was raven about the fact that with our new 64bit playground the extremely annoying popping in and out of ground textures finally belongs to the past ( aka FSX/P3Dv3... ) Crispy sharp ground textures everywhere you look !

But that was while flying the Bonanza with 135 knots at say 1500 feet. I really didn't expect this would be exactly the same flying a jetfighter at 500 knots at treetop height ! Holy Moly !!!

http://sectionf8.com/f86files/lowcrispy-1.jpg

http://sectionf8.com/f86files/lowcrispy-2.jpg

Exactly the same feeling as Aerofly FSI could provide when flying thru the Swiss mountains in the default F-18. Except we now have our beloved FS aircraft at our disposal, autogen everywhere and with the whole world as playground ! I say again Holy Moly !!!

Following the Seine low and fast. Used to be no fun at all, now it certainly is !

http://sectionf8.com/f86files/paris1.jpg

http://sectionf8.com/f86files/paris2.jpg

Am i happy to have left FSX and P3Dv3 behind and go all the way with P3Dv4/64 bit ??..... Happy !!??? Heck, i am bolted over with ecstasy !! :-))

If you ask me and IMHO of course, big cities have never ever looked this good and 'performend' this well in any flightsimulator ever !!

Not going to spoil the party by installing Drzewiecki Design New York for the time being ( i believe the're working on P3Dv4 compatible version anyway... ). With P3Dv4 slide shows seem to be a thing of the past but with DDNYC there's a good chance to invite them back in. We'll have to find out sooner or later...

No kidding. The more I research this airplane, the more I become convinced that the designer was a certified genius. The performance and engineering are impressive to say the least. The war overshadowed the airplane, but it is obvious that many of the concepts found their way into production elsewhere.

One thing for certain Jan, it's very difficult to take a bad picture in V4! :encouragement:

Hi ThomasWeiss, is it Metalmesh m2000? If so, how do you get it to work with p3dv4? It uses 32bits dll (M2MDM2KC.dll) that makes it inoperable in p3dv4?
Is there a new version for p3dv4?

Thanks for the clarification. I thought it was not p3dv4.

I bought it the day it came out - but there is so much yet that is not compatible that I thought it best to wait a bit, but the way things are going in a month or so it will be possible to move to it, specially after REX is made compatible.

nice shots of the hawk, I really wish they would update the spec mapping, it has much more potential for paints than just the measly tiny plain square share by all its currently running with

Great shots of the A-4!
I met my current (second) wife while she was de-cocooning one for static display at MCAS Yuma's Main Gate. Actually, she was straddling the nose, down in front of the windscreen. All I could really see of her was her back, and what really hit me hard was "NICE tush!" . I was working at VMFAT-401 at the time, and I found about 15 reasons to drive one of their tugs past that A-4 that afternoon. Took several other guys along, and they all agreed with my conclusion. NICE tush indeed!
Didn't even know it was her when I met up with her in Yuma's Memorial Day Parade we were both riding our motorcycles in. We were just chit-chatting as we went along, slow as all parades are, and she asked me what I thought of that girl on the A-4. She recognized me from all the passes I made with the tug...
She also turned out to my first wife's best friend, unbeknownst to me.
Anyway, we wound up married, and almost 30 years later, still are :encouragement:

Wonderful woman, and great pictures! Thanks for the memories!
Pat☺

Stock aircraft, stock scenery and the P-38 was a pleasant surprise.
Do FSX 'only' repaints work, because foolishly I only had FSX at the time and it threw a hissy when I attempted to install it in P3D3?
I can't get over just smoothly this version runs.

Btw, i hope one day we'll get to see breakers like those in Wombat's photo... In the otherwise magnificent looking scenery that we get in P3Dv4 these 20 year old things look particularly silly, don't they.. I'd say do away with them completely or atleast slow down the animation with 75%. They stand out like a sore thumb. Enough is enough. All IMHO of course :teapot:

I think it would be awesome, if you can do it.
It will be interesting to see how environmental things like the sky and ocean improve as people come up with ways over time to do it.
Right now, I'm especially thrilled with the number of FSX airplanes I'm finding that work properly with P3D4. :jump:

I've had four airport scenery projects in the queue, awaiting 64bit. Now it's here, so I can show a bit of the work in progress.

This is a short hop from Reno Tahoe International out to NAS Fallon. I've built all of the good bits into KRNO including bump mapped and specular lit ground polys. The airport is still a WIP so it is still quite clean and lacking "clutter", but the modeling is quite extensive. The flight stages from Nevada ANG "High Rollers" facility.

NAS Fallon is a very early work and still uses the freeware NAS Fallon for FSX for the infrastructure buildings, but everything else is new work. The entire town is fully annotated with individual buildings and trees on every footprint. The beauty of 64bit is that it can handle this kind of load without whinging...at all.

The entire video is designed to really showcase what P3Dv4 does well. I've been learning/developing the 64bit techniques over the last five years and the wait has been worth it. I've updated all of my models to 64bit via the V4 SDK, and am showing for the first time the new generation autogen and vegetation in 64bit and high def video.

The camera work is entirely ChasePlane driven. All interior and exterior camera movement is generated by the extensive settings available in the ChasePlane software. Additional "flying" of the camera is handled by key and controller inputs. The net is quite lovely.

This video shows very clearly the level of performance that can be attained using a very modest GeForce GTX 780 3gig GPU. For those on the fence...watch the video and decide for yourself.

I chose the Virtavia C-17 for this video, mainly because I have a monster sound set for this plane. I've mixed the sound and music as well, so feel free to turn it up.

Please...you Navy guys...don't frag me for the USAF markings on the C-17. I didn't have time to do a Navy skin before I took it out to Top Gun. lol

Enjoy...

That is an awesome video Gordon. Are you taking over from Cody on the vids? :) You had me almost wanting to buy the C-17. I remember seeing them flying approaches at the Jackson, MS airport, when I used to fly into there. Then I remembered that if you have two pilots in an airplane, you have one too many. ;)

Between you and Ed (Falcon409) and seeing your projects, I want to learn scenery building, as soon as this latest sim cockpit is finished. I love these new airports people are building. I would love to fix up some local airports and towns to more represent their real counterparts.

IMO

Cody's video stands on it's on merit, but thank you for such a wonderful compliment.

My approach at design work and video is to explore the envelope with better and better tools. When I bump up the GPU to 11gigs, I'll be able to maintain solid 60 FPS @ WFO sliders, which is what the capture software prefers. Once the sliders are at full song, and the captures are butter smooth, I'll see where I can go with the video choreography. :encouragement:

The trees are freeware too. These are made by Oscar (the guy who made that "Terra Emergence Project" textures pack) and can be downloaded from this thread: http://www.pilote-virtuel.com/viewtopic.php?id=81192 (go to the bottom of the topic for the version 1.1)
It contains some tree textures which are more transparent (you can choose between two levels of transparency) in order to blend more with the forest color on the photorealistic ground.
It also needs the freeware "France VFR AGX" autogen definition pack, which you are probably already using since you own a "Regional VFR" product from FranceVFR already.

Merci bien, Daube ! :encouragement:

Remarkable... Looks to me as though neither FranceVFR Corse, Vogel/Jpp autogen as well as Oscar's trees are 'officially' P3Dv4 compatible... Your screenshots do look wonderful so i guess no problem with any of these add-ons then ? A while ago i bought Austria Pro because the site says 'P3Dv4 compatible' . Apparently it is not.... More than half of the autogen buildings remain untextured no matter what.

Oscar trees... Do they show up only with the Corse scenery or anywhere else as well ? ( i had trouble with third-party trees a couple of times, freeware as well as payware. Either couldn't get rid of 'em anymore when i wanted to, or they showed up all around the world... )

I have the FSX Corse version, it's very beautiful.

Thanks again, Daube !

Cheers,
Jan

The sceneries "PhotoHD" by FranceVFR are quite "simple" sceneries which just a big set of BGL files. There are no dlls like OrbX sceneries for example.
As a consequence, they do not need any kind of conversion for P3Dv4 compatibility. You can simply declare them into your scenery library and you're good to go :D

The autogen by Vogel and Jpp is in the same situation: just a big set of .AGN files that you should drop into the "texture" folder of the photoscenery (that you might need to create, since photosceneries will probably have only a "scenery" folder but no "texture"...).
There is no problems linked to 32/64 bits with these.

The trees by Oscar are a bit more special case. They use some kind of alpha blending which works only in P3D, and doesn't work in FSX for example (trees would display well, but they would not be transparent).
I don't know if they work in P3Dv1 or P3Dv2, but they were made specifically for P3Dv3 and they work beautifully in P3Dv4 :)
And yes, they are supposed to impact all of the trees (or almost all) in the sim, not just on FranceVFR sceneries.
I strongly suggest you to make a backup of the P3D\Scenery\Global\Texture folder.

FranceVFR has updated their AGX package just a few weeks ago to make it compatible with P3Dv4. As this package also installs some trees textures (if I'm not mistaken), the Oscar trees should always be installed after, not before AGX.... and maybe the same logic applies to OrbX sceneries.

EDIT: in case you have some additional PhotoHD sceneries, the Vogel and Jpp have also produced the same freeware autogen for the "Rhone Alpes" and "PACA" regions :)

Thanks very much for your elaborate explanation, Daube ! :encouragement:

I might try it because i do seem to like the trees and i do indeed have France VFR Rhone Alpes and PACA as well along with lots of other France VFR stuff ( i tried "I'll de France" Paris in FSX, very beautiful but the inevitable slide show too, no fun ). On the other hand i have a very stable running P3Dv4. I promised myself not to install stuff that isn't advertised as P3Dv4 compatible so i'm kinda standing at the crossroads here.

And thanks particularly for the backup tip. I don't work with scenery anymore (used to in the 'old days'.. ;-) so i don't know much about it. Great to know where exactly the trees textures are (and possibly every other default scenery object texture as well..) I shall park a copy of this folder on my data HD (i run P3Dv4 from an SSD).

You don't have Austria Pro running in P3Dv4 by any chance, Daube ?.....

Thanks much again ! ;-)

Cheers,
Jan

The poor old Barracuda gets a really bad press, it was a much better aircraft than we are led to believe.
Although described as a "light bomber" it could lift over a ton of ordinance into the air and drop it with some accuracy.
Hideously underpowered and with some murderous traits, once the crews were used to these it became quite popular.
It sank more shipping tonnage and was produced in larger numbers than any other RN aircraft.
Still in service into the 1950's.

I have finally found the way to get my OrbX sceneries into P3Dv4 without reinstalling/redownloading everything !
The only thing needed to redownload is the OrbX libs. Once it's done, I just had to create some symbolic links to the main region folders (FTX_NA, FTX_EU...) and transfer the necessary version files from the original P3Dv3 OrbX folder to the P3Dv4 one, and that was enough to trick FTX Central :)
(ok I also had to copy the elevation correction files)

On the subsequent launch, FTX central added the necessary entries to my scenery libraries and my P3D is now displaying the OrbX PNW region and my Concrete and Darrington sceneries without any issues
It's good to be back there and see the benefits of the TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP (set to 9 only, 10 would kill my video card). Finally the distant textures are looking fine. It was about time...

I took Lionhearts Pacer out of the hangar for a quick spin.

http://sapdaube.free.fr/p3d4/daube_image0012.jpg

Then I also made a new flight with the S-55, which I'm finally able to start cold&dark without CTRL+E.

Sadly, it's not a proper Donnet-Leveque Scott, it's a Lohner S model I found on https://www.classicwings.net/.
It's the closest resemblance of the Danish flying boat I have been able to find, so that is what I used for the repaint.

Speaking of: There was a Navy T-45 pranged in eastern Tennessee today. Killed both crewmen. There are unconfirmed rumors that the oxygen system has been becoming toxic to pilots lately. May possibly explain how neither crewman ejected before the crash. Hard to do if you've passed out from hypoxia/poisoning. I would think the Instructor would be well trained in what to do, though. The Navy has some really good quality training devices for hypoxia training in particular, but it can be so insidious, it can get ya before you can recognize it and grab the green ring...

Still, my thoughts go out to the families. I hope they solve the mystery of the crash cause, just to give them closure.

I'm having so much fun with P3D v4 that I just keep pulling old stuff out of the hangar to see what works. I added the Iris F-20 using the ".xml" method and had to do some debugging because gauges isn't spelled guages. Spell it wrong and you don't get gauges! I can't however get the HUD working and the afterburner looks terrible.http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=54299&stc=1http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=54300&stc=1

Is there a way to use a different afterburner? Thanks.

I went through the same exercise. I was able to get a very reasonable HUD using the F22 HUD from the Raptor Driver (with some minor position/size adjustments in the gauge parameters).

You may be out of luck with the after burner. AFAIK it's part of the exterior MDL so not at all easy to tinker with.

We were taught in the altitude chamber during basic flight training to recognize the effects of hypoxia, the solution was to go to 100% o2 with the mask...in 10 years of flying, I never doubted my O2 supply or any of my life support equipment. Can't imagine what those T-45 squadrons morale is right now.

And, from what I can tell, the training is even better nowadays. After they take a class on hypoxia, they park the pilot in front of a PC based sim, in a small chair like any of use would have, with a control panel from their particular bird, stick, throttle, nothing much better than any home system. They wear their own mask & helmet. BUT, they plug their mask into a special machine they have, with tanks of various gasses. The operator can change the mixture, say O2 to N ratio, to simulate various conditions, altitudes, contaminates, OBOGS failures, and so on, with any timing they want. Even the breakage of a mid-air refueling hose, blasting fuel everywhere. Right after take-off, 2 hours into a flight, whatever. The pilot has to recognize what's happening, and take the appropriate action. Pulling the green handle, descending, whatever.
Most of the pilots are absolutely amazed to wake up breathing pure O2, and realize they passed out from hypoxia, without ever noticing a thing. Even pilots who've been through the Barometric chamber, like your-self. Those operators are sneaky, and really know their stuff. It also lets the other pilots see what the effects can be, and to recognize them in others, Helping them with checklists, talking them through procedures, taking over radio responsabilites, etc etc.
Really super good training. It's saved a lot of pilots, especially in planes getting old, and encountering more and more OBOGS failures, like the F/A-18, or T-45. Apparently not perfect though...

Take care!

Thank you Greenie - no, this is my never-ending construction site RAF Gütersloh for FSX and P3D.
Now grounded in P3Dv4, I will do my best effort to encourage this scenery with the Harrier Hides as well.
First steps in v4 are looking really promising, on both sites. Will add some few more shots shortly....

Yap, I totally agree, YoYo.
But unfortunately this is the only GR3 currently with realism halfway. Nosewheel too small, air duct not semi-circular, pilot much too small. On ground, it looks a little like a stumbling duck. But while flying, it is near reality in my opinion.
Anyway, getting it in its playground, it is a real time killer while simming...
