P3D V4...The F-16 - how do you get weapons on it?

Hi All,
I've seen several LockHeed Martin P3D v4 F-16's on You Tube with weapons displayed. I've searched like crazy, but I haven't been able to find an answer. I'm not a multi player "shooter" and not at all interested in purchasing TacPack. I just like the "eye candy" weapons displayed would add.

There is a shift+1 option with the LM F-16 which seems to indicate a weapon settings option, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use it yet. I welcome your feed back / advise.

Regards, Eagle :encouragement:

Weapons on the default F16 are only available with the Pro Plus license.

The non-LM Viper by Aerosoft can be Tacpacked with an addon called TMAP. You can find the discussion over at the VRS website on their Tacpack Integration forum.

Gentlemen,

I appreciate your response.

No TacPack or Pro Plus lic. for me. I stay away from anything VRS!

Eagle, thank you for your service, sir!
And a big SEMPER FI to a brother :very_drunk:

I have no idea as to your weapons display desire, though, as I don't have any version of P3D. Sorry.

Have fun, though!

Tacpack does not add weapons to any models.

What determines whether or not weapons are displayed is the model itself. The model has to be compiled with stores that have visibility conditions based on a token station weight (that is assigned to them via the models modeldef.xml before the model is compiled).

What Tacpack does is it replaces the models weapon with a Tacpack version. When the weapon is released from the aircraft, the station weight changes to 0....which makes the weapon invisible...and then the Tacpack weapon instantly appears and falls away or does whatever it's supposed to do.

If the LM F-16 model was compiled with stores and you can find out what their station weights are, you should be able to go into the fuel and payload manager and set the station weights to the value of those particular stores to make them appear.

The answer appears to be here:

"title=Lockheed Martin F-16A - Blue Camo

ui_manufacturer="Lockheed Martin"
ui_type="F-16A"
ui_variation="2x AIM-9, 2x AIM-120, Center Tank"
ui_typerole="Single Engine Fighter Jet"
ui_createdby="Lockheed Martin"
description="F-16A Falcon is the Air Force's primary airspace intercepter, and multi-role strike fighter."
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=0

atc_parking_types=MIL_COMBAT
weapon_loadout=2x AIM-9, 2x AIM-120, Center Tank
gun_loadout=Right Internal Mount
countermeasure_loadout=Basic Countermeasures."

The cfg for the default Vipers indicates the loadouts for that specific model.
I don't use them as I have the Aerosoft package which the default aircraft were derived from, so I think (just think) you might well need to invest in the Aerosoft package.

Eagle,
In the process of adding both the Iris and Aerosoft models into 4.2 as I can't fly the Viper without wingtip missile rails. If you want more non-firing load outs, you can get the FSX Aerosoft model and use the LM cockpit.

So we can use the panel folder from "F-16 Base" to sub for the panel in the aircraft.cfg of the Aerosoft payware bird? Why didn't I think of that!

Why would you want to do that? They are both the same aircraft or am I missing something?

The Iris F-16 works well enough in P3Dv4, but I've never been able to get the Aerosoft payware F-16 to work in P3Dv4,
whether I use the original panel, alias onto the default F-16 Base panel, or even copy and paste the Base F-16 panel
into the Aerosoft payware F-16. However I try, when installed, I can see the Aerosoft payware F-16's available to be
selected, but when I select and the sim tries to load, P3Dv4 CTD's.

So I'm wondering if anyone has gotten the payware Aerosoft F-16 to actually work in P3Dv4. If so, then the problem is
on my end, either in the way I've been trying to install or replace the panel, or maybe something else.

Thanks - RobM

@RobM, I was asking a member on the AS forums, but my basic understanding is after Aerosoft released the Viper to LM for P3D, LM changed something in the VC (probably for Pro version with weapons). I understand you can install the FSX payware models (A,AM,C), but have to alias the LM only cockpit for those to work. Again, no Tacpack function unless you did the TMAP mods to the FSX version as shown above. As I move over to P3D, I find it surprising LM would not advertise one of their real world products in the sim like the F-16 series, guess all the focus is on the F-35.

On the IRIS install, any major issues you had to tweak for v4?

For the Iris F-16D, I can't remember any particular problems. But I installed to v4 in an outboard .xml folder last August, so it's been
awhile. However, I just took one of the variants up for a quick spin, and everything was working. The only problem is that the HUD
is a bit dim, and I couldn't find a way to brighten, but I think that was a problem in FSX too.

As for the payware Aerosoft F-16C, I may keep plugging away, but I have so many ported over planes right now that I hardly fly,
I don't know if want to make that much effort.

No problems with either Viper in my P3D4.2 installation, but I only use basic flight instrumentation. Not interested in TacPac and it is possible to vary loadouts via the model in the .cfg.
No idea about 4.3 as I'm marking time until I see what is upgraded to suit, and I've retained 3.3 for certain aircraft (Captain Sim B707 etc) that just will not work in 4.2.
Edwards AFB is my default 'Military' go to starting point FWIW.

Great info gents thanks, I am one of those heavy Tacpack users so the mods are a must, but just having the jets in the sim is a start.
