Hey All,

So my wife has been going through some things and came across some old Boston Post news papers. We have from the 9th to the 23rd of October 1942. We almost the whole paper for the 14th. Its quite the unexpected find. Anyone know the best way to preserve them?

Hi Blood Hawk,
I asked an old friend who is a professional archivist. Her advice was to store old newspapers in archival polyethylene pouches in an acid free environment, such as an acid free archive box. The box should be stored in a dark, dry environment (not in a loft or attic). Even temperature or a minimal temperature range is preferable. All this will minimise deterioration of old newspapers.
Hope this helps.

Don't get too fancy. Sounds as though they kept pretty well these past 76 years. Maybe just stow them back the way they were.

In connection with a general owerhaul of our apartment in 2008 I found a local newspaper from 1906 written with gothic letters and signs. It is now 8 years ago and it still looks as the day I found it. It was stored in total darkness for 102 years.
