A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: Bell Airacuda YFM-1A for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a conversion of the FS2004 YFM-1A Airacuda by Paul Clawson.

The pack includes new air & dp files, plus WIN 7 safe panels. It is uploaded as a complete aircraft for ease of installation.

The texture included is an impression of an Airacuda used by 35th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group during 1940. It was actually one of the tail wheel Airacudas, but Paul had only modelled the tricycle undercarriaged YFM-1A, so that's the model I used.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Thanks to: Paul Clawson for all of the FS2004 aircraft he made over the years, especially those 1930s US aircraft.

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions.

Rami, Allen & msfossey, thanks for the kind comments.

I spend some time on the airfile so both the Player & AI planes fly close to the numbers for ceiling, range & max speed. After reworking a basic dp file I then test with a few Intercept & QC style missions flown just to see how the AI behaves in a fight, & how the planes will take damage. More tweaking follows, rinse & repeat until I get something that "seems right" :bee:

One thing I never could improve was getting the AI to hit a barn door with those 37mm though ...:p87:

The zip has been updated to include the option of a "shiny" mdl file, with lighter, clearer glass colouring. Thanks to Shessi for the steer on the glass properties, Martin Wright for his ever-useful MDLmat, & Allen for his dosMDLC tool.

It is an interceptor. Not supposed to be the intercepted one. :stupid:
