Is nearing completion :mixedsmi:

Sorry for directly posting the images, but I've uploaded them to Aerosofts server which I'm sure can stand the traffic and it saves me having to upload them to the SOH server.

The mapping on the nost of that paint in that first shot doesn't look good if you ask me. Apart from that it looks like the perfect little bushplane to get! :D

Great paints, those by Chris B?

Great looking addon, but I am concerned about the performance from the remark at aerosoft. I don't have much headroom until I upgrade and dailing back my sim setup to accommodate an addon is not an option, guess we'll see.

I'd imagine it's as good as Chris could get it Erik ;)

A carbon fiber nose cowel?
Outstanding!
I hope they test it. I'm weary of paying to test Aerosofts planes.

@ Simfreak

Thanks for the pointer - I'll go take a closer look (it is likely to be scale). Remember, us painters have to work with the modeller, not against him. We advise, but in the end it's the 3D modeller who defines the textures he peels of the plane.

When you see the model, you'll see that we have worked very well together though. I even persuaded Thorsten to completely rebuild the wing - after a month of open Beta testing. And even though it cost me 20 planes worth of repainting wings :banghead: to match the new corrected shapes. At least now the plane has Fowler Flaps and ailerons with balance weights and the correct hinge points (top edge 'piano hinges' and flat triangular cross section.

I'd also have loved to persuade him to make the proper corrugated skin flaps and ailerons - but can you imagine the work? No... instead I chose to do the "cheat" and paint them in with bumps and texturing.

I hope you'll all enjoy the Bushhawk. It has some nifty features, but all in all it is a bush plane, a Ford Cortina estate (station wagon) not a Daimler double six luxury cruiser.

It'll be great once FSaddon bring out their Freight Dogs for X one day.

Oh yes, back to the cowling. The main problems with all paints are when the 2D texture gets draped over a 3D model. There are often times you get 'stretch' where just one pixel on the paint stretches over a compund curve on the model. If you look closely, you will see little blurry bits on many of my paints over the years. They're where I have been over optimistic with my designs.

The 'pat' answer (#1) for Simfreak:

It's a metal skinned plane, not a real carbon fibre skin. When you want a "fancy" paint, you do it by printing the image on sticky foil and applying that to the clean surface of the plane. What you see are the cut lines along the edges of the "Photo wallpaper"

The 'pat' answer (#2) for Simfreak:

You don't lay up carbon fibre in one piece. You use layering and lay up the different layers in different directions. What you see there are the separate layers of CF 'pre-preg' cloth that are cut out and layered around the front of the mould.

Those are just two "Bluff" answers to explain away my inadequacies :costumes:

...and thirdly...

I have been looking at it again. Do you perhaps mean the 'streaks' that show in the right hand, circular, air intake hole?

CBris, Thorsten gave me the model today to play with for the video. I think the folks around here will love this bird. Wow is all I gotta say. I'll let you guys do the REAL marketing. :D Your paints are FANTASTIC!

I've been amazed at the gusto with which Chris attacked the paint schemes. There are a mind-boggling array of liveries, in all different states of wear and tear. Each one I see is better than the one before. The model is great too, but all those paints! Very cool.

Rgr, yeah looks like a tricky paint. I guess it is good as it only proves that he's human hehe. The other paints look real good and it will be a great little plane to fly around Australia (all those great small OzX airstrips) and Alaska!

So, Erik, was it the stretchy lines going into the oill cooler intake, or something else I didn't have a "fluff" answer for? I really would like to iron out things if they can be seen on the one picture already.

The paints look great to me,I don't think everyone knows what carbon fiber looks like.I see nothing wrong with any of them.
