I've just ordered IL2 1946 (thanks for the tip Naus) as I can't find my old disks anywhere, only a £5 from ebay though, what a bargain!

Somewhere I remember seeing shots for UK maps and airfields, are these available yet?

Thanks,

Pat :)

edit.. ah just found this thread..

not quite up to cfs3 standards but what a fab job these guys are doing!

Hello Pat,

the map and objects quality has improved tremendously since the Roumania and Burma maps in patch 4.09 (available for 1946) Those were official, but the AAA community has since done a great effort to produce maps themselves, and they get constantly better. That mixed with the new view distance of 72 km (previously 36km) should give a CFS3 like field of vision.

BTW, true grass airfields are now possible in IL2:

That looking very good Naus!

I'm looking forward to getting this on my PC again after a couple of years, there's features of IL2 that I miss, such as the rolling carriers in Pacific Fighters and of course the MP.

So what's been released to enable IL2 to be moddable, is there as sdk or tools anywhere, and just what is possible now?

Cheers,

Pat

Have you checked out www.allaircraftarcade.com (http://www.allaircraftarcade.com) ? They have a real active mod community going. www.mission4today.com (http://www.mission4today.com) has lots of good stuff also.

Hey Pat, look around at AAA for canon_uk's work on the BOB map. Here is a link:

http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8921&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It's a long thread, but the stuff he has going on is pretty amazing and worth the time to look through the thread. I believe he has done similar work to what you did in ETO in regards to BOB airbases.

Cheers,

John

P.S. good to see you over here

Bl**dy hell!! this looks incredible:jump: Thanks for the links guys, I was totally unaware of the quality and amount of work being put in to IL2.
I'm off to read through the rest of the 33 pages now!

Cheers,

Clive

ps. They seem to be a bit of an ill-mannered bunch over on those forums, think I'll stick to SoH, lol :)

I agree with you there -SOH is definately the most "grown up" of all the forums.

Pat Pattle if you liked CFS3 you are going to love this Sim as well. It even gives you more options and diversity than CFS3 when it comes to Theaters of war. Flying off a carrier is a blast and beign able to fly over Burma and Malaysia plus sorhern Japan is great fun. I also recommend for you to install Lowengrin DCG engine.http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php

You will also be able to fly over the Eastern Front wish is a facinating Theater of war for us Westerner. CFS3 is a fine Sim but so is IL45 and CFS2 once you understand them.

Good luck and enjoy the new Sim!:wavey:

Hi Miami, actually I know this sim very well, I used to fly it all the time with the Tangmere Pilots a few years ago. I got dissolusioned with having to 'pretend' that some g*d-forsaken place in Russia was either the UK or Malta!

I've been tempted back by the promise of new maps and now that I've seen these threads I can't wait to have another crack at it. :)

Pat

It's also nice to find an IL2 forum here at SoH so as not to have to put up with all the idiot fanboys. lol.

the Just Flight product you are referring to is not a 'mod'..its a campaign that was created using stock maps, a/c, etc...

there is nothing new in it as far as planes or maps.

No idea Norm, and if you allow me to say so, modding of this game is still illegal, so anyone who does so is a bit on his own when problems occur. Maybe you can ask the guys responsible for the mods how to solve it.
