Firstly my computer spec.

Intel i5 2500 Overclocked to 4.3GHz
Asus Geforce/Nvidea GTX 760 2Gig
16Gig RAM

I've got a couple of problems with SE.

1) when switching views on some aircraft it takes ages to render the aircraft, it's particularly bad when selecting the cockpit, worst culprit at the moment is the JF Curtiss Commando used with UK2000 Exeter and Horizon Generation X Photo Scenery with Treescapes which takes 35secs to render the cockpit from the outside view.

2) SE refuses to run in DG10 mode, when FSX gets to the Free Flight screen it does not display the aircraft selected just a black panel. Pressing Fly Now results in the sim locking up.

Hoping you chaps can help before I tear out what's left of my hair.

Cheers
Rich

CPU temp never goes above 65Deg, I've tried letting FSX recreate the FSX.cfg file.

Hello,
you could start by deleting the shaders and letting FSX rebuild them.
If you need to know, they are at C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX.
You can delete both folders.

Slow texture loading is the result of your computer not being able to quickly process and render the image. When using highly detailed aircraft and scenery, this problem worsens. I would suggest setting AI traffic, especially ground traffic, to a bare minimum, off being best for performance, then all the other scenery sliders to the left. Turn off all shadows and animated jetways. See how your computer performs with these minimal settings, then slowly move the sliders to the right until you find an acceptable balance between visual quality and performance.

Another issue can be your monitor. Running large size monitors at high resolutions puts a strain on the video card and will slow overall performance.

All good advice but how does that address this problem?

Thanks for the replies so far chaps I've lowered some of the settings and it has speeded up a bit, what I find difficult to understand is that the frame rates don't go down when the rendering is taking place.

I'm sure you all spotted the typo I meant DX10.

Frame rates and texture rendering are two totally different animals. The slowing of one won't necessarily affect the other.
Another slider that can really slow things is the 3D clouds. Try making them as low as possible, or even switching to 2D to see what happens. It may help your problem.

There are several FSX.cfg tweaks that can help this situation. Same for NVidea Inspector tweaks.
But to list all those two would make for a VERY long post.
A quick, basic, one for FSX.cfg would be to ensure you have the line HIGHMEMFIX=1 under the heading [GRAPHICS]. That's a line that really should be in the FSX.cfg no matter what, but "they" always leave it out. If you delete your FSX.cfg and let FSX rebuild it, you will need to add it in manually.
Tons of others. Kosta's tweaks are very helpful, as is Nick's Bible, for both FSX.cfg and the NVidea Inspector adjustments. Just Google either of those, or just FSX.cfg Teaks, and you will get, literally, millions, if not billions, of responses. Might be worth a look...

Nothing else running in the background?? No Browser, antivirus scans, porn videos running because you're bored, things like that? 4.3 GHZ CPU is 2.3 GHZ more than I have and the only cockpit that takes a little time to render is the VC of Milton's C-47 Version 3.14 on my system. Things like Lens Flare, Light Bloom, Water settings, AI Traffic, and Filtering types will cause slo-poke rendering.

Thanks again for the replies chaps, I've managed to improve the time taken considerably thanks to your suggestions. I think the worst culprit is the photo scenery and some of the more detailed airports. So it's only the DX10 issue to sort.

Best to go to Steve's Official DX10 Scenery Fixer Support Forum (https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/644-the-official-dx10-scenery-fixer-support-forum/) where problems are usually resolved very quickly.
