Before someone posts a reply, saying this topic has been brought up before....

I know it has!

But with the recent animation developments, i.e. animated arresting cables (very cool!), I started wondering if someone might come up with a way to start flights aboard moving carriers without having to go through a lot of steps to so? You know, make it simpler for us old farts? :encouragement: :biggrin-new: NC

The method I use is CCP, but needs many previous steps. In fact, sometimes it is my feeling that it takes less time to place an AI carrier (both with AI carriers or tacpack), to land on, and then to take off

What I do in this situation, works perfect for me from years. The simplest and fastest way for me:

1/ Do "normal" landing on carrier opposite to wind (set up carrier by AICarrier or TacPack), turn off all systems, take "P" for pause and "Y" for slew.
2/ Save your flight. Now You have config for always to start on carrier. To test (take off/landing, You will start on carrier deck):
3/ each time You can load a saved file, you will be in the air but in slew mode from the beginning.

4/ check wind direction, turn in slew mode opposite to wind:

5/ take AI Carrier menu, load carrier (in user position), If You will be to high or to low use F1 or F3 key, F2 to stop, set up Corsair on the deck in proper position:

6/ release slew mode,
7/ do order to swim forwards whole fleet
8/ start the plane from Cold and Dark on carrier.

You can repeat it every time (if carrier changes a place also because he's traveling).

Land aboard. Park and pause. Save the flight from the deck. Minimize the sim window, go into Documents/Flight Simulator X Files, find your flight (FLT) file, open in notepad, scroll down untill you find the entry [SimVars], go down to 'sim on ground=True', change to 'sim on ground=False'. When you start the saved flight, the aircraft spawns in pause at deck height, spawn your ship. Also, park at the center of the ship, as AICarriers spawns on the ship centroid.

Will try that thanks.

While I'm thinking about it, I have a question about the distance at which I begin seeing a carrier that I have spawned with AI carriers.

It always takes longer for the carrier to appear in VC view than in locked outside view. Why is that? Is there a way to make the carrier appear faster, from a farther distance? NC

By the time you're done with all that messing around I will have launched out of Miramar, spawned a carrier 8-10 miles off La Jolla, trapped aboard, and gone below for lunch in the Chiefs' Mess. :biggrin-new: Too bad FSX isn't like CFS2 where you can set up a mission to start with your plane parked on a moving CV.

It is possible if you have Notepad++ (free program) to open up the Carrier Tutorial Mission FLT and edit the carrier if you want another carrier to start from. Otherwise if you don't care what carrier you fly from, just start the FSX Tutorial or Carrier Mission and be sure to check the box to make changes. Then you can substitute ANY aircraft in your library. You have to listen to the verbage about it being an F/A-18 whether it is or not and then fly that mission with your chosen aircraft. Last year I was doing CARQUALS with my RAZBAM T-2 Buckeye.

So it is possible to substitute the default carrier with, say Javier's? NC

By editing the .FLT file, yes. By starting the tutorial? No.
Is that what you were asking, Chief?

I have tested the "saved flight" solution and it is fast and easy. Thanks

Recent versions of the RFN Carrier Gauge will put you on deck in up to three locations of your creation. A fourth default location is on the cables area.

Will have to make another attempt at installing/using the RFN gauge. Was not successful, years ago, when I first tried to do it. NC
