Which sound pack are you using for your P-38?

Under the Settings options in the sim, check to see where you have the Motor and Cockpit sound level set at.

At low power levels the engine sounds are going to be quieter than they are at higher power levels.

Concerning the shaking...which P-38 are you using?

you can find better here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=downloads&FileUploadName=Lawdog2360

As for the landing "shakes", that's just a little stock FDE magic to let you know you're entering a low speed stall. Its really a good sign if you're just inches from touch down. A general rule for landing prop planes on runways is that the perfect 3-point landing is best facilitated by a controlled landing speed stall just a couple of feet off the deck. You get your 3-pointer and save some brake power for later when you might really need it. :d
