If anyone's looking for an interesting project of an aircraft that's missing from virtual and real skies.......

I just discovered this aircraft while reading through the Bell UH-1 Huey volume of the Aviation Classics magazine. I had never heard of it or anything like it before. It would have been a real weapon if developed back before WW2.

Actually, it had incredibly poor performance and would have been a sitting duck. Having said that, search flightsim, or maybe even here, as one has been made for flight sim. I keep thinking Paul Clawson made it.

Thanks Sundog. I had a look but didn't see one for flightsim, but I will search again.

I read that it was under powered and had a lot of other issues, no doubt the reason the project was scrapped. Still, I think of what it could have become if developed further. It's just a big what if, and not an important one :encouragement:.

There is indeed a version for FS2004 by Paul Clawson. Good memory Sundog!

I had a bit of trouble finding it, but it found it after searching for YFM-1 instead of XFM-1. The file is named "cuda3.zip" at Flightsim.com.

It's also available at Simviation, along with a version for CFS2.

Cheers,

FS2004 Bell YFM-1A Airacuda This unusal aircraft was designed as a bomber destroyer featuring twin cannon in the nacelles. It was too slow and cumbersome for that role so only 13 were built. This model depicts the last version which had flush turrets and a tricycle gear. It has the usual animations, lights, crew figures and a reflective finish. The 2D panel is based on a photo. The VC has moving controls. By Paul Clawson. 1.2MB
