I apologize in advance if this is a repeat post. I just installed FSX on a Vista 64 bit OS drive, and noticed the flickering in taxiway textures.

I did a quick search on Google, and here about it. I see it is a common problem.

Has anyone come up with a short term workaround to this?

Thanks.

Wish their was navychief but nothing yet. Many have tried different drivers but so far nothing has helped in the DX10 mode. Sure wish there was a fix for this issue. I like the DX10 mode but hate the flickers!!!!!

Unfortunately the only way to cure the problem is to go back to DX9. I also loved DX10 as it was very smooth but in the end went back to DX9.

It's a small sacrifice as far as I'm concerned. The DX10 experience is so much smoother for me and a few flickering taxiway tetures visable for only the shortest part of the flight isn't enough to make me consider returning to DX9.

Yep, switch back to DX9.

So, to switch to DX9; all I need to do is add "-dx9" after the FSX.exe?

Thanks.

You must have checked 'Preview DirectX 10' in the Display settings.
Uncheck it and it goes back to DX9 by default.

Or are you saying you get flickering textures and you haven't checked Preview DirectX 10?

Now that you mention it, I distinctly remember selecting "Preview", so thank you for the tip!!!

Just uncheck Preview DX10 in the Customize Display Settings Chief, that's all that is necessary.

DX10 runs well for me but my add on AI has textures that are not DX10
compatible. They show as all white. Bummer. :banghead:

Things appear to run much smoother in DX9. But I must admit, I do see some improvements with DX10, except for the flicker issue.

Now, if I can just get the FCLP program to install correctly. Chief

I like being able to switch back and forth with DX9/DX10 in Vista. Let's me compare.

Another problem I have with DX10 is that my aircraft lights do not function properly! I never click DX10 lest I want some super good water or sky screenies.

Yes, I too have noticed the lighting problem. Thanks for that! I was beginning to think I had copied over some files!
