Good day fellow simmers,

Many moons ago ,there was hot debate on many of the flight sim sites about the F-18 stance sitting to high at the rear ... like it was running a set of air shocks to give it that muscle car look (like my ole 69 Chev Beaumont ) !!! any way someone came out with a teak to have it's backside come down and look normal .

Anybody remember ?

Cheers for now

I got curious and googled the subject. I found dead links to 2007 files (gear mod by 'Cell'). But I also found 3 new cnt pts mods for the FA-18 but did not try them. Of course the correct thing to do requires you make changes to the MODEL (which would require that you have the model files, and which Microsoft won't allow I suppose).

Alternatively, you could try DLing and installing the v16.1 F-18 by the team at FSDT. Same model file, since they can't get ahold of the original files from the developer any more. He's gone silent, for whatever reason. The team at FSDT are the ones that did most of the development of the Acceleration Hornet in the first place. They've continued making it better and better, with the v16.1 as the current iteration of the plane. There IS a v17.X in the pipeline, however.
I suggest installing the v16.1 and using it instead. MUCH better plane. Great systems modeling, and the FCS and FDE can't be beat. Look in Jimi's sig for the link to the DL. I can post the link here if you need.
Just my opinion, of course.

I tried the third set of contact points that Chuck posted. Thanks for posting them.

It does make the gear squat more and the aircraft sits pretty level.

I took off in spot view and did notice that as I rotated the mains sunk into the runway a little, but once airborne the oleos were extended normally.

I think it's an improvement.

Just do yourself a favor and download the FSDT version and forget the default Hornet. You'll be glad you did.

A real big +1 to that!

+2.

Also, Jimi is a stand up dude. I had a great conversation with him a while back. He didn't have to take time out of his day (night) to do that, but, he is passionate about the Bug. And he is a cool dude.
Really though, the FSBA jet is a stand out hit.

Not only Jimi, but Orion, as well. He can't get on the forums as often in the summer, but when he does, he's more than willing to help out with details of XML gauges, and so on. Really a great guy.
Jimi is real high on my list of great people, though. He allowed me to help out Beta test the v17.X (which isn't out for public consumption, yet), and he was most understanding, and accepting of many of my test results. Many of the tail hook details, as well as some of the landing gear contact point details are mine. Some other, little things as ell.
Really a great crew.

By the way, I learned about landing gear contact points from a post by Mr. Shupe a long while back. Still super useful. My eternal gratitude to him for that.

Just to be clear: '..the third set of contact points posted by Chuck..' are by Orion and not by me.

Try giving that a whirl. That's what we came up with the FSX Blue Angels when we first started in 2007 with the Acceleration Hornet.

The FSDT FA-18 is really good, much better than the default FSX one.
Its just a shame that it doesn't work in P3D 3 or 4, mind you neither does the default one.

Even as we speak, "they" (Orion, Jimi, and the team) are working on making the avionics over entirely, in order to make them work in FSX AND P3D v4. The v17.X will have all new avionics, 64 bit.
To quote from the PM I just got last night, in small part:
--Available for P3Dv4: In addition to the aforementioned, ORION has recompiled the FCS.dll to work for P3Dv4 as well!
and
-AVIONICS IN P3Dv4: As mentioned earlier, many of the avionic displays are no longer functioning in the new, 64-bit FSX based simulators such as P3Dv4 and FSW. We have started the process of updating the avionics so that they will eventually work on those platforms. Currently no ETA on when they will be complete though.

I have a funny feeling it won't be long, though. Orion and team are very, very good at what they do.

The latest iteration is currently in beta. There are a large number of other things involved, but I thought y'all might like to hear that the FSX Blue Angels Hornet will soon be compatible with P3D v4, FSW, and so on.

Have fun all!
Pat☺
