FSX native conversions of the Kittyhawk Studios/Vistaliners Boeing 737-300/400/500. Uses the main panel, sounds and virtual cockpit of the default Boeing 737-800 and very easy on framerates as they all use very little texture maps. 737-300 and 500 done and converted, 400 is the next to be done. Need a painter(s), any volunteers?

I was looking at a Project Open Sky 737-400 VC to use with Tankerguy72's Coulson repaint of the FAIB 737-300 model, but when I started digging in to it I found it was a FS9 VC. Is it possible (not necessarily asking for it to be done) to convert a FS9 VC and merge it with a converted FSX model, ie the ones you have just done?

BTW I started to do a conversion on the Vistaliners 737-300 also, but didn't go any further after I realised it had no winglets, as I was trying to find a 737-300 that could be painted in the new Coulson air tanker livery. I love the work you have done. I think it would be great if the 737-400 cockpit can be paired up with your models, as apart from a 737-300 itself, it seems to be the closest match to the 737-300 cockpit.

She is sexy, isn't she? This was my final check I had to do and it's all completed. Both the 300 and 500 have winglets installed with the texture mapping in place. I gotta give a big shout out to Hiroshi Igami (Project Opensky/Skyspirit/TDS) for the winglets. I wasn't planning on doing them just yet, but he offered to do them for this airplane and here is the final result.

Nice work! Does that mean you had access to the source files to be able to add winglets, or could they be merged to the existing model somehow?

will you be able to give a link to download all your mods etc?..the whole thing?...and will someone be able to put the coulson paint to this?...

Cheers,

Scoth6 - I have similar thoughts and problems. I have the new package downloaded and installed and it works fine. I was hoping to alias in another panel from the 400 that I found but it won't show and I also have a number of Aussie paint for the original 300 vistaliners, one worked (Australian Airlines) the other (Qantas Freight) will not no matter what I try, it will not even display as a model incorrectly, so I am not sure what is going on there. I then thought perhaps one could rework the VC panel but alas the wide EFIS displays present a real challenge to revert back to small EFIS displays and the original analogue engine gauges. I have gauges etc but the VC mapping holes appear to work against it, still thinking about it anyway. Trouble with the 300 is that when it first came out it was basically a 200 with CFM engines, then they put in some small EFIS guages and later some refitted to the large screen displays. Anyhow this model package is great and I will go back to the paint and texture issues before tinkering any further with the panel issues.

If you come up with anything let me know. One final note I did buy the Wilco 300 at one stage but had so many problems with it in FSX-A that despite numerous contacts with Wilco etc I gave up and got my money back from the seller, it was a total dog.

Hi,

I haven't yet installed the updated Vistaliners upgrade, I have been flying the FAIB model with Coulson repaint, upgraded sounds, upgraded 737-800 VC and a reworked aircraft.cfg so it doesn't act like an AI aircraft.

The 400 VC probably isn't showing up because it's a FS9 model (Posky model?). It did look pretty good when I first saw it and more suitable than a 737-800 VC, but on closer inspection it does show it's age a bit. I haven't yet tried to convert it to FSX.

I would suggest just going with the default 737-800 cockpit (let's just say the companies had avionics upgrades done. That's what I am imagining happened to the Coulson air tanker ;) )

I would suggest downloading the available upgrades available for the B737-800 cockpit:

FSND_FSX-B737Upgraded_Cockpit.zip

FSX737-800_Cockpit_Texture_Upgrade.zip

B737_800 VC Night Lighting.zip

There is also a freeware soundset for the 737-400 (CFM-56-3B) which I find is pretty good:

sound_cfm56.zip

or another 737 sound pack:

sound_b_737-800.zip

If you have any trouble finding links for these, let me know and I will try to assist.

Cheers,

Scott, thanks for the tips and links .

I have the texture issues sorted now and both look great. It was a a file permissions tag issue then a mapping issue and it took me a while to notice that there was a difference in the lines for the sim model, a subtle change like a _ instead of a -. All good now so I have the 300 in the colours of Australian Airlines and Qantas both but no Ansett.

Yep your right about the VC I can live with the more modern cockpit if I want older then I fire up the Capt Sim 737-200 which is great.

Scott
and any others interested. The FSND VC upgrade along with the textures is probably pick of the bunch. As far as the modified VC is concerned the addition of the Honeywell FMC is well worth the effort and getting rid of the old FS GPS, but you have to copy the 737-800 interior mdl file across to the B737-300 base pack folder to get it to work both on the pedestal and as a popup, which it does and integrates nicely with the autopilot. The FMC at least gives you the ability to calculate or work out V data, etc for the beastie.

As far as sounds are concerned I found a 737-300 sound package done for the Vistaliners and properly based on the CFM56-3's not the later 7's etc fitted to the 800 etc.

The file is named 737300kx.zip I think it was on FlightSim.com, but I much prefer this one to the default 737-800 sound packages.

That being said I like it a lot, the model is easy on framerates, it handles nicely maybe a little sensitive in the nosewheel steering area but otherwise seems fine. I can live with the cockpit because there are actually a few 737-300's around like it with upgraded EFIS systems anyway, it may not have been what was in Australian Airlines for example, but it is a small issue overall.

Anything startling or transformative I guess I will post back here or really this whole thread should be merged with the release thread.

Cheers

Picked up a light fix for the use of shockwave lights, this works for the 300,400,500 equally. You need Shockwave lights. A vast improvement.

Here is the relevant change, just copy and replace in the aircraft cfg file.

[LIGHTS]

//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0=3, -12.50, -50.80, 1.90, fx_shockwave_navred ,
light.1=3, -12.90, -50.80, 1.90, fx_shockwave_navred ,
light.2=3, -12.50, 50.80, 1.90, fx_shockwave_navgre ,
light.3=3, -12.90, 50.80, 1.90, fx_shockwave_navgre ,
light.4=3, -17.20, 50.65, 1.90, fx_shockwave_navwhi_l_nl ,
light.5=3, -17.20, -50.65, 1.90, fx_shockwave_navwhi_l_nl ,
light.6=2, -13.00, -50.80, 1.90, fx_shockwave_strobe_l_nl ,
light.7=2, -13.00, 50.80, 1.90, fx_shockwave_strobe_l_2,
light.8=2, -52.00, 0.00, 6.40, fx_shockwave_strobe_l_3 ,
light.9=3, -52.00, 0.00, 6.40, fx_shockwave_navwhi_l_nl ,
light.10=1, 7.10, 0.00, 9.60, fx_shockwave_beaconh,
light.11=1, 5.50, 0.00, -4.90, fx_shockwave_beaconb,
light.12=4, 44.00, 0.00, 2.20, fx_shockwave_vclight_l,
light.13=5, 14.60, 8.50, -1.40, fx_Shockwave_landing_light_narrow// Shockwave light
light.14=5, 14.60, -8.50, -1.40, fx_Shockwave_landing_light_narrow// Shockwave light
light.15=5, 36.60, 0.00, -6.00, fx_Shockwave_landing_light_narrow// Shockwave light
light.16=9, -48.00, 4.00, 9.40, fx_shockwave_logo.fx
light.17=9, -48.00, -4.00, 9.40, fx_shockwave_logo.fx
light.18=4, 44.0000, 0.00, 2.2, fx_vclighth ,

And the CFM56-3 sound package referenced in previous post is definitely the best IMHO for this series of Boeing as it was recorded from real aircraft.

Scott6 - re the panel stuff. At the moment I would have to say the way the default 737-800 references stuff back to the mdl file and texture mapping a gauge workover is not going to work to retrofit this bird. It seems for some peculiar reason the primary panel drivers are actually popups not the VC config so my thinking is that the default 737 was actually a 2004 construction that was given a makeover to go into FSX, for example everything in the switch department on a pop up displays and clicks as it should and the changes are reflected in the VC you cannot get the VC to do the same thing without a popup. While I can get the Honeywell FMC to work on the pedestal I cannot find a way to install any other stuff, like weather radar at the moment. Not that it matters that much, the instrumentation and switches on the glare shield panel is accurate for the type so the only thing that is different is the wide size EFIS stuff, but again some have it so again, no serious problem.

I have performance data for the type as well if your interested in V speeds etc, handling, operating notes.

Thanks for the notes BendyFlyer.

I will try that other sound set out too. I still haven't even tried this new Vistaliners upgrade. Still stuck on the customised AI FAIB model with Coulson livery. Doing some firefighting :triumphant:.

Re the panel, I agree with your post above - I am really happy with the FSND 737-800 VC. It adds some great features and is just easy and fun to fly with. Also the upgraded VC textures and night textures look great. As you say, I'm sure there would be some aircraft that are retrofitted with later avionics anyway. Besides that, there's really no freeware 737-300 cockpit to use anyway. I may look at the Quality Wings version when they bring that out, now I have so much interest in these birds. It's funny - a few years back I couldn't have told you a thing about the 737-200, 300, 400, 500. Now I have these latest models and the Milviz 737-200 I am not an expert, but I have much more of an idea. That's the cool thing about flight sims, you're always learning something new.

Speaking of which, here is an interesting website containing a lot of detailed specs for various 737 models:
