The Classics Hangar FW-190 is nearly ready for release!

Oblt. Max Buchholz recieved this brand new FW-190 A-2 when he was stationed on Fliegerhorst Katwijk.

That thing looks awesome Huub!!

It will need its own hanger though. You can just leave that out in the field....

Goodness...!

Does it come with a proper owners manual? Type of oil to use, fuel, etc? Will I need to send to the Fatherland for special AV fuel for it? (potatoe based, etc). ;)

Looking good man.... Can hardly wait. I have always loved the stance they have when sitting on the ground. Wide like a bull dog, tough looking..

Sorry for the wait, deimos.
That'll teach me to announce release dates, that's for sure.
Seems there's always more to do than expected. :faint:

Well, the aircraft is ready. The testers get the release candidate installer by the weekend.
What's left to do is house-keeping, cleaning the mess on the floor that the beta testers left behind, LOL.
No serious, website, ssl security and documentation are the things in the works right now. Well, I don't announce a fixed date (such as end next week :kilroy:) but we're very close.

BTW, here's the 0.9.6.beta manual.

Of course I'm biased and perhaps you consider me not as objective as I should perhaps be. But I can assure you I don't know a VC which is equal to the VC from the Classics Hangar FW190.

I have posted these images before, but as you can see even the faces from the gauges are fully 3D modelled and on my modest machine I don't have any problems with framerates.

The VC has "normal" VC light, but when you switch off the VC light the gauges remain "radium" illuminated.

You're right, there are better salesmen around here than me.

And yepp, they look great from within the design proggy.
The art is to get that look over to the simulator.
I think we didn't do all too bad on that part.
The gauges alone have been under developement for something like three years.
Admitterable not just the Fw190 gauges but a complete set of true-to-real German WWII period aircraft gauges developed from manufacturor drawings and many other references provided by -beside others- the leading expert in that field, Peter Cohausz. You won't see them closer to the real deal in FS anytime soon.
Here's some FSX screenshots of the VC, different variants, A-2, A-4, both factory fresh and second hand from your favourite aircraft dealer. :kilroy:
Those early Fw190 variants had a cover over the main gauges.
In the next release, A-5 to A-9 you can see them fully nude in all their glory.:costumes:

Thanks for the additional images. Those gauges are in fact very impressive. I had not seen the detail in them before.

One thing with military planes is its hard to see the normal map and model details with the flat paint schemes, so it's been hard for me to see the details with this one in most of the screenshot, though the ground shot on the last page does a pretty good job of showing it off with the way the light catches it.

Roger that, SolarEagle.
The Fw 190 is not supposed to show too much bumps in external view, being a second generation fighter with flush rivets and panels. The interiors back then where designed and painted in a way to not distract the eye from the gauge readings so we don't use overly agressive eye-catcher effects either but go with an accurate allover RLM 66 color.
There's a lot of subtle lighting and shadowing going on though in this pit that really comes to life when it's in motion.

The G-key works as usual.
Just if you decide to use the cockpit buttons and stuff you should follow the manual.
If you forget to switch on the gear motor before pulling the handle you'll perform an emergency release what'll effectively take away the ability to retract the gear again.
Same goes for engine start. CTRL+E works but if you go for using the VC you need to follow the procedures.

No, the reason is that the swastika is forbidden by law here where I live and where we have our servers.

Rgr, that was my point......to be able to sell it to everyone becuase the German constitution forbids the swastika. The dead horse is the debate that always occurs around here about about "historic" paints = swastika a or no swastika.:ernae:

stovall
February 18th, 2009, 03:57
Mathias, totally understand the reason for the swastika being forbidden by law. It is to bad that historical events are associated with an ancient indian symbol but those are the facts and as far as I am concerned the law is a good one.

Now when this beauty is born, there are a host of repainters just waiting for the chance to make her historically accurate and I for one am waiting in line to make that happen. Mud, I also like historical paints and will be one of those to make it so.

Thanks to Mathias for bringing the wonderful Fw-190 to the FSX world of flight simulation. Mud, my finger nails are also bleeding just waiting for the Butcher Bird to make an appearance.

Mud/Tom,

When you look at the screenies made by Roger and me, you will see we both fly the "historical correct" version.

Due to legal restriction Mathias can only make the version without the swastika available. However it is quite simple to "add" the required texture (only one!) to make all version "historical correct".

I'm convinced this texture will be made available via other channels.

Cheers,
Huub

Here I was thinking two days was a long wait for an "imminent" release, but I found a quote from another developer on the subject:

Usually when I say something is imminent it gets released within 10 days after that post.

So it seems in the FS world imminent means "two to ten days", rather than it's ussual meaning of "any moment". I guess that's nothing new though, since the FS world redefined "comming soon" many moons ago. :costumes:

Hehehe, let's see what can be done with it.

We will eventually release it.
We will release it eventually.
We will release it, eventually.
We will eventually release it on ******

On a funny sidenote, the word "eventuell" in my language means something like "maybe", "probably" :kilroy:

Ehehehe, that's one of the "never been done before", LOL.
You knoiw, I've been visiting the museum in Hannover/Laatzen a couple of times.
They have a BMW801 right beside their Fw190A-8 (which I had the opportunity to have for me all alone for two hours). Long story, I thought that label is sooo prominently visible on that thing that I just had to put it in.:wavey:

Here is my youngest in front of their 190

The sound of the BMW is Awesome , as are the flight dynamics , i have been infatuated with Mathias's gauge work for years and had a total riot taking this puppy up the Grand Canyon for grins to finish the day, She is a work of Art Mathias.

Well, I'm very pleased how the flight dynamics turned out, too. AvHistory created a unique set of FM's for each aircraft in the package. You'll find that each behaves different.
