View Full Version : OFF Mission fails to load

Hi,
perhaps someone can answer this little Q. When I try to fly a mission or campaign I get "mission file failed to load" and a black screen with just the menus on. This give the ability to return to "officers mess" without a crash but thats all.

Any ideas fellas :)

Do this little test.

Navigate to :

C:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0

NOTE this is the standard CFS3 Folder

Delet the UISEL.XML

Retry OFF

I installed it into C:\Program\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields.

In accordance with the first post I made about the installation folder.
The reply I got ther led me to believe only the main folder was critical.
Is it necessary to have the total path as :
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields

Since I dont have this "program files" folder I dont want to create it.

Hakjar - I would like to work one on one with you to solve this issue - I will PM you my e-mail address and we can go through this one step at a time over e-mail.

We have quite a few folk who installed and are running A-OK but of course we are talking PCs/OSs etc etc so these issues are expected - unfortunately.

Cheers

Yes I get this error as well....I've tried deleting uisel.xml from the cfs3 folder as well as the ww1 folder...I've even tried deleting the entire ww1 folder and the error message remains...

...I had off running a few times but it would reboot the computer when I tried to select different planes; it would throw up a plane texture page (an image of the entire page) in the top left corner of the screen freeze and then reboot....after doing this a few times I now get the mission fails to load error...

...note I've had this strange phenomenon occur in my regular install of cfs3 (unmodded and patched) but it would be fixable without a hard reboot and it hasn't actually happened in a while...it seems to have normalized itself....?...

Pop what video card do you have exactly, and how much video ram does it have? Sounds like a memory issue especially if CFS3 has the same problem.

Hi, I've the same problem. It all started when I wanted to start a campaign. The strange things is, I even get the message when I want to start a "quick combat". Luckily after pressing the messagebox in CFS3 the menu on the right is available with the possibility to start the mission (And then everything is working fine).

Greetings, Roland

I have an Asus v9999 GT (6800) 128 mb ram
P4 3.2
1 gig ram
.....?.....
...yes cfs3 seemed a little flaky since I've reinstalled it.....I've had the same install for years now-through multiple xp reinstalls (you don't need to actually reinstall cfs3 as long as you have the installed folder) but it finally stopped working so I tried a new fresh install (the old one is still on my computer)...one thing that remains through the 2 installs is that the 'unmentionable' doesn't work now and I have to have the cd in the drive....but now these intermitent graphic problems which may or may not be related to the mission fails to load error.....the graphics problems certainly seem to have caused the intial crashes which may have as a byproduct these errors....?..... dunno...?.....

I am trying to trace the cause of this issue - but I cannot reproduce it here and many folk do not have this problem - if I can reproduce it I can fix it.

This will take some time I am afraid.

I have not been able to reproduce this problem but here is something I would like the users who have the Mission Failed to Load Error, to try.

Extract this bat file to the main CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder and double click it in explorer then try OFF again.

.........................

Tomas go to workshops and press CLEAR ALL PILOTS then try again

Winder
December 18th, 2005, 12:09
Tomas two things -

1) you need to run US character set - or do what Lionel(Bzhyoyo) has done here:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=10592

And then you need to press the Clear Pilots Button in the Workshops and enlist a new pilot.

Reinstall?

Try this first, I had the same problem and solve it with this :

go to your language settings, choose your language and customize.
Replace the "," for decimals by a "." (like in the English system)
That worked for me.

Nope didnt fix it.

And XP converted back to Danish language on exiting OFF.

Strange things when I start notepad it has danish keyboad, but XP had US keyboard, then i stareted OFF and when exiting XP has set kb to danish again.

All this after change of language and reboting.

So I am still no go.

WildBat
December 18th, 2005, 13:20
A quick note.

XP has US kb set but every time I open any application (browser, notepad and word) it changes to Danish.

Probably does that with OFF to then.

I have waited this long, I think I can bear to wait a little longer.

Oh on another note.

THe first time I managed to get into the cmaoaing manager, it showed the mission in distance to be between 600-1100 miles long, flying time to be like 60-110 hours long. I dont think they had that much fuel onboard back then. Does this help any?

FWIW I had US English all along and still got the error...?...cfs3 is very touchy though, I suppose you can arrive at the same error from many directions...I had some qc going at one point......

Hi Winding Man,

thanks for your efforts. If i set the bootup language of my PC to English(US) with equivilent keyboard and run the .bat file everything works perfect. :ernae:

However, all other programs behave erradically when doing so. Unfortunately this leads me to conclude that running OFF on a non native US system isn't feasible without too much hassle.

So regrettably since i really liked OFF (in stark contrast to CFS3) I now will forever put this away and onto a dark shelf because on my system it causes to much problems to run.

Best regards to you all and a big thank you for your hard work. It's not easy to foresay on which systems problem will appear :mixedsmi:

Thanks Hakan - yes I never saw the language issue coming. All beta testing was done on English XP set for English(US, SA UK) etc.....

To internationalise OFF would take some doing and I reluctantly cannot commit to that.

So I apologise for this.

Thanks....for my part the error message was most likely as you said from not starting the game properly (though I did try that a few times).....I have it running pretty good now just had to keep trying a few times-cfs3 is very finicky and sometimes just starts working if you try enough......I just have to watch my scenery and graphics settings or I end up with the white box problem where ground objects are represented by these boxes instead of their rendered selves.....

Hello. In Mission set-up I get as far as the pilot against the ammo boxes and the plane in the background -- the camera pans, the pilot starts scratching things and the camera pans again. the 'hanger' drop down menu tag is visible all the time but there is no way to get flying from there and I have to go back to the officers mess.Is it me? as in QC you are just led out to the aircraft etc etc and can just get on with it!!

um press esc if you have the top right hand menu showing.. that's the config screen.. now on the left you see missions? Select it,

Now you should see your mission listed on it's own.. pretty straight forward frmo there. Once you fly and succeed or crash then you exit to the hangar to go see your results in OFF Manager.

I select a mission, attend the briefing, sort out my string vest and pipe tobecco and press 'fly'-- then we go outside to the plane and the 'hanger' pull down is there, but
there's no escape. The drop down menu reads-display..sound...multiplayer...control...realism.. .save campaign(grayed out)...about...help...handbooks...web...officers mess and lastly hangar.
It's me right? I get to this screen after pressing 'fly' and that's it!! How does anyone this daft get into the RFC?

um not sure then if you have a menu in the top right hand of the screen, then you need to remove that menu first. (little orange up arrow does it too). Other than that maybe it crashed no idea. But normal procedure as I say is to Go to Hangar from OFF Manager, then at the first screen in CFS3 where you see the plane and the pilot panning, click on "missions" then "Briefing" then keep clicking there ;)

First, I Printed out the doc file and followed it precisley. When I start OFF with my new OFF Manager icon (yes I have greated a pilot, deleted the xml file and have the CD in) I click "go to hanger" and my screen goes black with the hour glass sitting there. If I hit the enter key the start up screen will show and then when I chose QC and click "fly" the program hangs up. If I try to start OFF with the Shell.exe in the OFF folder I get a "missions fail to load" message. Yes I have the right path to OFF. I have tried 3 complete new installs of CFS 3 and OFF. What is wrong?
