View Full Version : OFF Install Issues? - Read this First

If you are having problems getting OFF working here are some things to be aware of:
1) Read the Docs!
2) LEAVE the path as defined in the ClickTeam installer i.e
X:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields
Where X is your chosen drive - ONLY change the drive letter nothing else!
At the very least the OFF folder MUST BE CALLED:
CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields
To ensure that the clone process works!!
FAILURE TO DO THIS can result in "mission load" errors as OFF is then looking at the standard CFS3 config and startup files, and will not work.
Effectively OFF is no longer a clone and disaster strikes.
3) If you are having VB runtime errors please read the docs and follow the hyperlinks - this issue is solveable - I have no idea why some OS installs are incomplete from a VB runtime library POV but it is solveable, and it is also IMO far to common a problem - MS should take heed of that.
4) Create a clean CFS3 install to work from : Other errors are most likely due to problems copying from your "standard" heavily modified CFS3 - under these circumstances do the following:
4.1) Backup your existing CFS3 install
4.2) Use Martin Wrights Mulcsf3 to clone your existing install to a different folder.....
4.3) Uninstall and reinstall CFS3 from scratch Patch to 3.1 and then run it once - make sure it works properly - fly a few missions make sure you can exit!
4.4) Remove all existing CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folders (search for them!)
4.5) Remove the WW1Scenery Folder
4.6) Install OFF.
5) If you attempt to reinstall OFF after a failed install attempt YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING:
5.1) Remove all existing (often partially created) CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folders (search for them!)
5.2) Remove the WW1Scenery Folder
6) DO A TEST!
Do this little test.
Navigate to :
C:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0
NOTE this is the standard CFS3 Folder
Delete the UISEL.XML
Retry OFF
If it works OFF has not cloned properly.....so check 1)

Hi guys, I have installed OFF without any problem (I did read all the instructions). No problem with the installation. Now everytime I want to run the game the openin screen with that marvellous Spad shows up but I don't see any interactive knobs, buttons whatsoever to push or click on.
Any suggestion?

Thanks Polovski, I will. Did not have a feeling this may be caused by the VBruntime stuff.

Guys just do the , . region change (use . for decimal rather than ,) fix see the FAQ and docs.
Also make sure you install the VB runtime stuff (search the FAQ)
Also make sure you aren;t runing win98! If so check the.. FAQ you guessed it.

get this failure message.........
suppose, I should have/must create a new, clean cfs3 install in standard location and try again???

OKI Read the FAQ, install 3.1/3.1a patches for CFS3 first and RUN CFS3 ONCE.
You must now clean out all failed "CFSWW1...." folders etc please see the FAQ for install problems.

YEEES, I did it and it works to some degree........
After putting up a second clean installation the OFF installer went through without any problems. I created a pilot, did a manual install (of the pilot) and sorted out my screen resolution problems (somehow it did not go automatically to the required 1024x768)...
the last problem I have: I see the failure message "mission cannot be loaded"
and I am stuck.......could not find anything about that in the FAQ page, but I look in the thread (unless there is a quick resolution for that..)
Thanks for the great work:ernae:

I get to 57% installed and get this message,
"file corrupt or unreadable: OFFDATA\sounds\overstress.wav"
I looked through the faq's and found nothing like this
what's that all about??
thanks,

Sounds like a dirty CD or bad copy. Try carefully gently cleaning any marks off the cd. (breath on it and wipe).

One more thing. When I first installed today, i did a cfs 3 installation patched to 3.1 as mentioned above but It is installed in a folder on my external drive with 2 other cfs 3 installations such as d-day cfs 3 and firepower version. also whne I tried to run at least once the first time after the clean install, I got the cannot find mission error and flickering screen. do you guys think those 2 other installations are causing this?

Yes with no problems. Let the installer install where it wants. Dont rename folders.
After that change the language settigns so that ',' in the numerical decimal wil be a '.' and the '.' in the thousand becomes a ','

Received OFF CD from Ralph B. Thank you, Ralph. Unfortunately, the US Postal Service managed to mangle it a bit. Cleaned it up as well as I could but cannot get past about 40% install within some wav. files. Hate to ask, but if anyone could spare me a CD, sure would appreciate it. I'd send you a nice 4.7G DVD+RW in return. Downloaded all patches (took me all day Sat.) Anxiously awaiting a reply. Great forum, nice people. ~Thanks again, Ralph B~

Send a private message request here to either Wichner or flyingbullseye and they should be able to send you one. I've sent 4 out so far and those were the last two players I sent to.
