View Full Version : OFF...Can't exit the game!

Hi guys.
Installed OFF over my existing CFS3. I've had a few crashes of different sorts which I'll probably be able to sort out myself, given a bit of time.
The major problem I have at the moment though is, the game won't close properly.
Every time I try to exit by clicking on the "Are you sure you want to exit CFS3" button, it either locks up so I have to turn the PC off at the mains switch, or at best, the task bar appears and I can exit by choosing "End Now" and restarting the PC.
Any ideas?
Other than that, It's brilliant!
Just wanna say thanks very much and well done to the whole OFF team for producing such a fantastic game! :applause:
Merry Christmas.
Bucky.

Not sure on that one Bucky, does your CFS3 install work OK, can you run it up and start a mission then try to quit?
Glad you are enjoying it though, that's the whole idea of course :mixedsmi:

It might be best to install OFF over a completely fresh CFS3 install.
I suggest the following:
1) Use Martin Wrights Mulcsf3 to clone your existing install.
2) Unisnstall and reinstall CFS3 from scratch Patch to 3.1 and then run it once - make sure it works properly - fly a few missions make sure you can exit!
3) Remove all existing CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folders (search for them!)
4) Remove the WW1Scenery Folder
5) Install OFF.

This happened to me as well. I put the CFS3 disc 2 in the drive and it worked just fine after that. I can exit back to OFF menu without any problems (so far).

I've had it happen too- seemed to only happen if a mission was not completed properly ie: when i ran out of fuel and landed without shooting down the zep' i was supposed to.
Finished the mission and all was hunky dory- shall try a few more times later today to see if that IS what 'causes' it

Hi WM & Polovski.
Sorry for the delay in acknowledging your replies fella's, but I wanted to see if I could solve the non-exit problem without a 2nd install. (I need the space!)
I've tried changing AA & AF settings and a few other things, all to no affect. The game runs well and seems pretty solid apart from having to restart the PC to exit.
So before I bite the bullet and fill my creaking HD with another install, what I'd like to find out is:
Is anyone out there running OFF over a clean 2nd install of CFS3 and not able to exit without rebooting?
Thanks for your help.
Bucky.

I am having the same problem, sometimes.
I can play OFF OK, but when I finish the mission and try to exit the cfs shell, back to OFF Manager, the game sometimes freezes and I can only Alt-Ctl-Del my way back to desktop.
I am running Win XP Pro Service Pack 2.
I have a AMD 2400 XP, Nvidia FX6600, SP Audigy 2ZS, 1 Gig of Ram.
BTW, I have exited successfully on occasion.
Other than that, I have been having a brilliant time with OFF.
Many Thanks to all involved.

Sounds like problem flicking to the desktop and back probably driver related, all i can say is make sure you have the latest drivers installed, and also make sure you have the correct monitor driver installed (often shows as a generic plug an dplay monitor when often there actually is a proper driver for your particular monitor. Check the manfacturers website.

I have the proper driver for my monitor, shows as compaq p700 which is the monitor I am using.
I will go grab the latest nvidia driver and see if it helps.
I am using ver78.01 currently.
BTW, I also installed on a fresh vanilla install of CFS3 with the patch.

I've been having the same problem, off and on. It seems going to OFF manager is where the problem exists. I'm running a nvida 6800 drivers 81.95

After installing OFF yesterday I tried to fly a quick combat mission a couple of times. I experienced several problems but on the other hand I think this game has great potential and will be fantastic if I can get it to run on my machine. So I wish to thank the developers for creating something most CFS3 players have been waiting for a long time!:applause:
Now for the problems: I also cannot exit without this action locking the pc. I have to restart. My CFS3 is a clean install except for some scenery changes. Flying a mission in CFS3 causes no exit problems. When flying: after a few minutes the autogen and sometimes the aircraft turn white or whitish gray. Toggling views hastens this effect. FPS: very low (CFS3 runs great with all sliders maxed out) and a lot of stuttering. The game looks somewhat horrible (flickering autogen and the wiring on the aircraft looks like white dots). I suppose these latter problems are video card/drivers related and I will try to change some settings and see if that helps but it's strange that this does not happen in my regular CFS3. I can only hope it can be resolved because it ruins gameplay.

I updated the nvidia drivers to the latest certified version and have the same problem.
I have noticed a pattern though, but have not done it enough times yet to be certain if it is a solution.
Last night, I successfully exited two missions in a row by closing all of the UI sidebars before exiting back to the OFF manager.
If I find that it still sometimes hangs when I do this, I will try the shift-q keystroke which someone suggested.
I hope the problem is solved with closing sidebars first though.
And again, the game is fantastic, Thanks to the whole team.
I am having a great time in the albatros. Working towards my 17 hours

OK I'm patched to .33a and running fine but I too have the exit problem. I am at 3 ground texture so I may turn that down. Not much of a dirvier issue though I may upgrade. Sometimes white planes when loading first time, even in CFS3. I HOPE my patched werent screwed up. That's another thread :mixedsmi:

Unfortunately, closing all the sidebars is not working.
I have noticed another pattern though.
If I shoot down an enemy aircraft, I can exit without problem.
If I fly an uneventful patrol though, it freezes everytime when I try to go to officers mess.

Ditto.
Was having same trouble, installed new 81.95 drivers and it still freezes when going to officers mess.
Annoying, but probably something obvious. Early days yet! Great sim fellas:ernae:

It's got worse for me...Since installing the last three patches, I can't even close by using the Windows/"End now" option. The only way to exit is by switching off at the wall!
Not sure which patch is the culprit 'cause I installed 'em all one after the other, but I think it may have been 0.33.
Judging by some of the other guy's posting in this thread, it doesn't seem to make any difference wether OFF is installed over a clean or modded CFS3.
Graphics drivers don't seem to be the answer either.
On the plus side, I'm getting no in game crashes at all.
Bucky.

I'm having the same problem as you guys. The computer is freezing when I try to go back to the officers' mess. I have to reboot.
Oddly enough, it only happens when the mission is a failure (shot down, crash, etc..)
Apart from that, everything is fine, except the resolution drops back to thousands of coulours (16 bits) instead of millions (32 bits) every time I restart the game.
This is my PC :
Windows XP Home;
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory : 2048MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c
ATI RADEON X800 256 Mb
Catalyst 5.12 (latest drivers)
Gamesurround Fortissimo III 7.1
Right drivers for the monitor.
I'm following this topic with much interest.
This sim is GREAT !

Guys its not the patches - there are too many folk running A-O.K.
Bbut that does not mean that there is not a problem somewhere - I just cannot reproduce this problem here - none of the Devs have it either so all I can do is hope to see it - if I can reproduce it I can fix it.
