Cant rember seeing this being asked anywhere but can the cfs3config still be used to change the graphic settings and such with OFF?? If is there an alternative?

How many cds does Off use?When I get it I'd be willing to help distribute it.but I only have a cd burner not a dvd burner.
Glad it's out. this will be the OFF outhouse for a while as You can see already. I'm looking forward to it. got a brand new phone book for pilot names! LOL! I'll kill off all my family first tho. especially the ones who are already gone and won't be hurt.

Can't download it with a dial up even with a download manager. I doubt my isp would stay hooked up that long.got a nice guy said he'd send it to me asap.Thanks to ALL the people involved.

....after 5 hours downloading using the freedownload manager, a first load of CFS3 and 3.1, a bit of a flight ala WW2.
Then when I tried to load the OFF zip file, I got:
"Error in file #1: bad Zip file offset (Error local header signature not found): disk #1 offset:0"
I'm hoping theres a solution but I have the gut feeling I'm going to have to try to reload this again.:redf:
Make my day with a solution or put me out of my misery and tell me to reload. I've been waiting six months (& 5 hours lol) for this, another five wont kill me, but let me know soon so I can start the reload again before anyone in this household catches on and demands their "online time".
Im not too disappointed really. Been waiting years for a good WW1 sim and I think OFF may be it. The only problem is I will be moving house in a few days and wont get back online for at least a month. It would be nice to have the game before I disconnect.
Those of you who did successfully load up and get flying, tell us more. How do the crates handle? How aggressive are the AI fighters? etc

I've downloaded the 2 dll files and the bridge fix for Off just in case I need them Where do the dll files go?how do I install them if needed? I don't even have OFF yet but I'm preparing as best I can.:applause:

It has worked for some people, not for others. So just make a back up of your cfs3 root folder plus the config files in the application data folder.
If the install works from the modded cfs3, fine.
If it doesn't, reinstall and patch a stock cfs3. Install OFF. Drop the contents of your modded cfs3 into the stock cfs3 folder. Done - easy, painless.

Oh it runs fine, that's not the problem. I'm unable to use a conventional joystick or keyboard; do everything with one finger, an old mouse and an on-screen keyboard so I have to run cfs in windowed mode.

Worked fine for me using a very modded CFS3 install. Here's what I have on my CFS3 install:
Firepower,
1% Aircraft,
some Ground Crew and Is4 aircraft,
Aeroplane Heaven P-47's and Spits,
Skies Unlimited Mustangs,
Mosquito Combat
Battle Of Britain
WM Scenery,
some of Fox's effects,
various skins,
tons of replacement sounds,
and probably other odds and ends too...

Have been working two days to download no joy. One of two things happens:
1. I get download complete then blank screen, nothing.
or
2. when i try to save the files to install later i get "cannot extract or file corrupted"
May have to take up golf again.

Sure do. Whatever OFF does during install, it did exactly what it is supposed to do even with my heavily modded CFS3. Best of luck! :)

To my knowledge, no - you have to have CFS3 CD2 in your drive. If you are installing from a CFS3 main install that has a no cd exe, then make sure you rename this and put back in place the original patched cfs3 exe before installing OFF.

Do you need to have cfs3 on your computer even after you installed or is OFF a seperate clone? (I'm stupid. My previous problems were all solved with simple solutions.)

I just installed OFF, but when I try and FLY it, it is asking for my CFS3 CD-ROM to be inserted.
Now, I bought CFS3 many years ago, and have been using the "no-cd" patch for that just as long.
I do have the CD, but it is in a storage shed, hidden away somewhere among many boxes.
Remember the end of the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?
It's kinda like that. And I'd really rather not have to find that damn CD again.
Is there any way I can run OFF in "no-cd" mode, like I do with CFS3?
I would really appreaciate any help here.

Which movie plays the CFS intro one or the one in the OFF menu? If it's the latter then go into the workshop to disable.

After some serious digging, I managed to locate my old CFS3 disks.
Now my install of OFF was from a heavily modded version of CFS3.
Even though CFS3 was configured to use a no-cd patch, the OFF does
still require the CD. ok. so now i have that.
I configured my display for 1920x1200 and 32 bit color.
also, I set AA to none.
and I am using a TrackIR 3 with vector expansion with this.
The TrackIR lets me just move my head naturally, and look about.

This is a completely amazing WWI simulator! Very Very Very well done!!!
I am completely impressed, and humbled by such work as this.
Works perfectly with TrackIR, and the 1920x1200 resolution is fantastic with this.
The only small glitch was with a few graphics polygon errors in the beginning.
But that smoothed out quickly - after the first minute or so, and became a very nice display view.

The intro movie is an OFF movie that runs in the OFF manager program . it has nothing to do with CFS3 - goto Workshops in OFF and set Opening Video to off.
Pressing any button on the main page stops the movie instantly - neat huh!

Hi all.
As you know, OFF works on my comp now.
I discovered a bug. RE8`s are totally invincible!! I emptied my ammo on one and hes still flying! If you want i can make video out of it! It`s on a protect airfields mission, i simply can`t shoot those re8`s down.. And i don`t wanna put amo on strongest cuz then I myself will catch fire after 2 hits..

I have a few questions about multiplayer...last night I put up a server with 16 players allowed. Myself and a friend (not on a lan) connected no problem. Had fun dogfighting trying out the different planes...But as we played I noticed several (10 to 15) people trying to get in but couldn't ( it was described as an Off 3.2 server). I and my friend have a clean cfs 3 install and off patched to 3.2 only. Then when we tried to get in a few other dogfight servers we got mismatch for Spads...forget what ones...But later got in 0-1drivers coop no problem......Wierd or what? Think that many people could have modded installs?
Also is there a way to change the text size of the tags in game? The LOD of planes is so poor that without some sort of tag I cant see them even at close range... It's just the tags are so bold that in the above mentioned coop it was a killer to see that many large tags in the air ...would be better if you where able to use a thinner font.....at least for fighters.
The Z key...Is there a way to edit that down to a few chosen coordinates? Such as speed, alt,and heading?
Can you set one key to look down the iron sight? If so what would that be?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on...is there a multiplayer thread ? If not we should probably have one so people can post there experiences and problems with each other to see if we are on the same page.....Thanks and I'm having a blast so far...Sully

I'll second that. My eyesight isn't much to write home about either. I am brand new to CFS3 but I found a facility where there was 'pointer' cone and a broken white circle around the target. It seemed that you can toggle it. Can't for the life of me find it now. Tried 'I' but it doesn't seem to work. I am using a different joystick (and computer!) for CFS3 proper and it could be a default button on that stick.
Can anybody jog my memory, please!

all of this can be done by altering the viewui.xml that is in the application data folder.
There used to be a viewui.xml with comments as to the different settings there :

Minor problem when using the warp facility, flight time is set to zero. It does not seem to matter if you've flown for an hour before getting bored and warping or if you've done it immediately after getting enough altitude to attempt it...

Thanks for replying FireStorm II. I have been clicking the 'I' key but, although the top of the screen tells me that the cone is on/off, the actual cone does not appear.
I will try the Brackets toggle tomorrow. BTW I can't see this on the Keyboard Commands chart.

i`ve experienced the same thing but with the dr1...i was at point blank range in my camel filling it with lead..and i mean i am so close the enemys cockpit is filling my gunsight...i started to get hits...then no hits.
break off the attack and come back to it...i get some hits..then the same thing...very odd

Flying a Camel for RFC3, the petrol guage is non-functional.
Ground MG's are murderous. Any way to turn them down?
Campaign is showing minutes of actual flight time, not simulated time. Have flown five mission for a full day, and yet it shows that I have just over an hour of flight time. Any way to change this?

Polovski, thank you for your reply. I can now get the Cone but I cannot get the Bracket. I agree with your comment that it is better without it, at least from an immersion point of view. But I have to have the bracket toggle as the foe is shooting and hitting me before I can even see him!
I can't get Padlock either. I have recorded the accent [`] as a button on my joystick (Cyborg 3D Gold) but it refuses to function. I take it that the accent is the left bottom character on the triple key to the left of the number 1 key. If it isn't, where the heck is it? :redf:
I am also having trouble with the game sequences. On the main Menu if I click on Quick Flight, I am taken to a screen containing my flight details which I can amend to suit my requirements. If I then click on Go to Hanger, I am presented with the video screen, containing tabs allowing me to go to Quick Combat or Multiplayer. The other tabs are blank. If I click on Quick Combat, I am given my mission details again and have to click fly. I can change the details of the mission again if I want to - which I don't as I have already set them up after pressing the Quick Flight button.
When I play the mission I seem only to be able to return to stats, timeline, etc tabs when I crash! To abort in mid-mission, I click on Ctrl+Q. I get the message do I wish to exit CFS? As I don't want to exit CRS but just the mission, if I press No, I am taken back to the mission. So I press Yes. Now I'm presented with screen which I went to after clicking on Quick Flight on the main menu. It seems that the only obvious button to press is Go To Hanger. When I press this, I am taken back to the Quick Combat/Multiplayer tab options. The opportunity to see the results of the previous mission are gone!
It seems that, instead of pressing Ctrl+Q, I have to press the Esc key. This stops the mission and now displays the drop down Options menu. If I press End Flight, I am now asked if I wish to end this mission. If I answer Yes, now I'm presented with the Overview menu. This is probably down to MS but it does seem to me to be rather convoluted and unduly complicated.
Can anybody point out what I am doing wrong?

Um Borton,the OFF MANAGER is where results are seen, qo in fly the mission, quit game (hangar) see results and repeat. Of course if you WANT to QC immediately for fun (not for results as the FIRST mission is counted in the Manager!).

They are meant to be don't fly low over guys armed with specialist MG's to shoot airplanes down. Remember Manfred vR died from MG fire when he broke his own rules and flew low.

I read about the icon problem and the program in the read me is a good work around but I've not heard of anyone having the problem of refresh rate changing.

I have ran into a minor inconvenience. When I exit from OFF the screen refresh rate has changed from my normal setting of 85 hertz to 60 hertz. I read about the icon problem and the program in the read me is a good work around but I've not heard of anyone having the problem of refresh rate changing.

Same here winks -same figures too, I'm going to try running it on detail level x3, instead of x4 (in the config) Haven't yet flown anything!! just done the 6hr d/load, & the 30min install with the 4 patches, then been fumbling a bit with enlisting...will report back :icon_eek:

A question; Peppered four Nieuport 17's up close, bullets right into the cockpit hitting the pilot. Each one flew around in circles for 5-minutes before crashing into the ground. Dogfight took place at 500 feet.
Is this part of how CFS3 controls a shoot down? Is it possible to fix the DM so if hits are in the cockpit area (hitting the Pilot) the aircraft pulls-up, stalls and spins in. Being shot in the back, as recorded in WW-1 eye witness, has a reaction to the pilot of pulling his arms into his body thus pulling the stick back and stalling the plane thus spinning in.
Can this be fixed in one of the patches?

Not sure womenfly2, I guess it depends if you kill the pilot or not. We can't alter the CFS3 code as we don't have it. There maybe config files for how pilot hits are actioned, I don't know. Maybe WM does ? Starting to put all that sort of detail in at this early stage would detract from the greater plan, but if there's something quick or easy we can change then we can.

OFF running great so far except when pilot crashes and dies, going to "officers mess" as specified in brief info. causes blank screen and system lockup. Cntl-alt-delete shows OFF manager running but not responding. Ending OFF manager send me back to desktop requiring restart of OFF. Is there a way to return to OFF main screen gracefully when pilot dies?

i have a case of "flickering" terrain...it looks like mist (and could well be) that clears and then reforms rapidly so as to make a strobe effect.
is this a detail distance setting or something?...i feel sure its not a problem with the patch

Mark -I've looked all through the readme & these threads but can't find the answer, so here goes: do the wingmen respond to your commands (ie. attack, rejoin..) when you press the appropiate key? - I know they wont answer!! but looking at the their planes it's hard to tell whether they're attacking the oppo at this early stage of flying this delicious sim, oh & Happy Christmas :santahat: !!

They all take off 100% fine here for me, maybe you CPU is lowering the FM due to being over stressed?? Try lowering graphics details, also try a different squad/pilot.

I picked a German pilot and got him to captain a Zeppelin in Free Flight. If I toggle the views using F4, the balloon vanishes and just leaves the skeletal accoutriments.

A question on the ai marksmen.
This may be hard coded into the gme and beyond our/your control but I thought I'd ask anyway.
As was under the impression, perhaps incorrectly, that WW1 m/g's were not that accurate at range and that consequently you should get right u pclose and personal before releasing the lead.
However, the ai appear to fire with great accuracy from well over 1000m's.
I have been waiting till I am around 100m before firing.
Am I doing wrong or can the ai marksmen be wheeled in a little?

Yes, I've found this too and commented on it. I think this is a MS thing which was also very evident in CFS2, which caused me to drop that sim. As I recall there was much complaint about this at the time but MS, as usual, chose to ignore it.
If you OFF guys can do anything to correct this, it would, I am sure, be much appreciated.

Bullet range was lowered dramtically. You'll find often the AI fire but don't reach you. Firstly don't fly in straight lines! If it's possible to reduce the AI then we will of course.

I picked a German pilot and got him to captain a Zeppelin in Free Flight. If I toggle the views using F4, the balloon vanishes and just leaves the skeletal accoutriments.
you'll probably find that it's trying to look from inside the balloon itself- try zooming out (a long way 'cause they're pretty big :costumes: ) and rotating to the side a little, it cured it for me.

After flying 4 campaign missions I finally got to shoot down some enemy planes. on the way back I got high enough to dive to pick up enough speed to warp(125) but after a few seconds it crashed to the manager just like I'd never flown the mission. just thought I'd mention it.not complaining,I'm experimenting.:wavey:

Spitune. I"ve sent out 3 so far.try to pm Nod and get on his list for distribution. every body that gets a cd is supposed to burn 3 copies to send out and Nod is in charge of that see the sticky about it. If you can't get one from somebody I'll send you one if you pm me with your address.

I cannot for the life of me get either the Cone or the Target Marker to appear. I follow your instructions to the letter but nada. Obviously, I am doing something wrong but what? Has anybody else had this problem and how did they get round it.
I also cannot seem to be able to activate Padlock. I have tried the accent key with the @ sign and the key with 3 symbols to the left of the main keyboard 1 key. Is it because I am using TIR with 6dof?
It's a pity because these problems are spoiling for me what is an otherwise excellent achievement by the OFF team.

If you use TrackIR it's tricky following a plane then if TrackIR is following your head ;)
Sorry OFF is completey ruined for you but the whole point of TrackIR is YOU can track a plane lol

My Quick Mission settings are not saving in the OFF manager. I have tweaked the sound levels per the Readme in the Campaign Data folder. I also figured out that you can force location and realism settings there too by setting it to read only. The manager will "bonk" when launching CFS3 but it will go in fine with your settings displayed. Flys fine after that. OK this kind of skirts around the manager and I would rather not do that. How much of the uisel.xml file gets rewritten each time and how can we interact with it save our settings properly? I am thinking now that the manager is set up to limit the aircraft and airbases you can fly from based on historical factors and the choices you make when you create a pilot. is this true? If so, it would be helpful to inform our users of this (not just manager vs. cfs3) so they can select according when they want to try different things. I like to fly by the coast because of lower cpu loads with ground objects. I do not know which units were actually stationed there so getting there in game was tough until I "hacked" the uisel.xml beyond the readme sound settings. Now, I coudl have screwed up my file settings in the folders so the OFF manager can not save them properly. I can't figure out if this has actually happened. The Nie and Tripe loaded on separate occasions when I reset to my backup uisel.xml One when it was read only, one when it was not. Anyaway, this is getting complicated so just tell me whether we can edit these other variables or if they are hard linked to pilot creation.

1. backup shell..exe, rename
2. Copy cfs3.exe from no-cd modded install of CFS3 (WWII)
3. Copy it into OFF game folder
4. Rename it shell.exe
5. Runn OFF
It will run without cd now. Your game is hacked.

Which folder version of the uisel.xml can you delete to have it rewritten from your edited copy?
