I have been doing carrier ops since it was available in FSX. But to someone who is completely new to this - it can be a little confusing and downright daunting. I found the following website page with some great info, but wondered if it is all still current?

http://c-aviation.net/aircraft-carriers-in-fsx-freeware-guide/

Also, if anyone can recommend a Youtube video or two that might explain files needed for FSX, but doesn't get TOO complicated, I would appreciate recommendations! Thanks!:encouragement: NC

are you looking for just videos or do you want documentation too?
Is this for yourself or someone else?
and i know you once inquired once about joining us(USNVA) but only have FSX;steam. We will soon open up our VA to all users, FSX;ACC,FSX;Steam and P3D once JOINFS is fully implemented w/TACPAC which we think will be very soon.
We have several excellent real world instructors who would be more then happy to help you with carrier ops if your interested

Hi Stinger,

Well, I am actually gathering the info for someone on the Canadian Bluebirds Demo. team. I have been practicing with them for a few weeks now. Although I have been simming for many years, formation flying is something I haven't done much at all, so am learning a lot and having fun too!

Anyway, one of the Bluebirds members has expressed interest in carrier ops. So I am composing a email with links to send her.

I would, however, be interested in some flying with the USNVA, especially once I get more training with instrumentation, etc.... NC

Off all things NC , I'm only coming to grips with TACPAC , weapons training is my next department but the best thing , brought TACPAC for P3D so I guess it is just the same in operation for FSX , gone is the need for AIcarriers , That is a great program, I simply loved it ... the TACPAC is expensive but to install carriers in-game is simply so easy and the tool options I'm still getting use to , I think it simply depends on just jumping in and think of the possibles .. so many great development getting done with this addon that required that jump.

Three main files, one optional:
AICarriers.NET (not the origingal .exe, or Java based version)
vLSO
The carrier file(s) or your preference. FSshipyards has most of them. Javier's Nimitz/Ike v2 seems to be the consensus favorite for an American boat.
Optional:
The FSDT FSXBA F/A-18C v16.1. Great flying aircraft, with an amazing realistic FCS and FDE. Nothing else even close to it. Not just my opinion, either. Several RL Hornet drivers think so too.

Quick, simple, easy, painless. :D

What is the main advantage to AICarriers.net vs the original? I understand it doesn't need Java, but is it any less complicated to set up? Thanks, NC

Hey Pete,

Read over here and maybe it will explain it a little better for ya.

here https://github.com/ollyau/AICarriers/releases

basically the exe version targets the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile

AI Carriers .NET

I made a .NET port of Lamont Clark's AI Carriers utility (http://web.archive.org/web/20100802075258/http://lc0277.nerim.net/wiki/index.php?software), eliminating the need for Java. I've also added support for Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition, which didn't seem to be compatible with the original.

Original description:

This version targets the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17113) and supports Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Acceleration and SP2, Microsoft ESP, Lockheed Martin Prepar3D and Prepar3D v2, and Dovetail Games Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.

YEAH!
What he said...

Seriously, though, not only does it seem to be the only version that works in FSX:SE and P3D, but the .NET version just works better over-all. It uses less memory, less CPU cycles, and so on. I've also never had the problem the original seemed to have of not shutting down when the sim does, and holding on to a lot of RAM and CPU time.
