Thanks for the find....

Up the road off of I-4 out of Tampa there is a place called "Fantasy of Flight" http://www.fantasyofflight.com/

There is a Connie that sits on the grounds that will never fly again. I have been told it is a freighter,no seats, that just had its engines stripped out for a plane in Germany. They were being sent to California to be refurbished...Here are two shots..

Love the lines..

No.

However, the Connie mentioned in the initial post is said to work fairly well in FSX.
It even has engine failiures upon wrong use of the controls, etc...

Got one (i think the same one) a while ago. I like to know if this is the same one with modifications recently applied (as in a week or two weeks ago).

The one i got flies really great. Only had to change the prop-dishes.

This is version 2.2, just released. I can't download right now due to slooooow internet, but I have version 2.1, released a month or two (?) ago, and it works really well.

if i'm not mistaken, manfred jahn the lead on the team that created this fantastic bird mentioned an FSX version. In any case, from v2.0 on it has worked fairly well in FSX and threads at calclassic forum have supported those porting it into fsx. it is one of the more fantastic freeware aircraft ever released...

This plane was acquired by Lufthansa together with two other L-1649As. One is currently restored to flying condition in an especially build hangar at the Auburn-Lewiston airport in Maine. I guess thats the aircraft the gets the engines. It's meant for Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin-Stiftung (DLBS) and should be back in the air in 2010 and later demonstrated at Air shows as their Ju-52.

i d/l this last night and put it into fs9 to see if i would like it.
WOW!!!! it's very nice!!!!
something about the exterior doesn't sit quite right with me, but i can't put my finger on what it is. the way it flies, i like alot. i'm not a real-life pilot, (or even a very good sim pilot) but it feels to me like that is how a real one would fly.

in the read me file there is a mention of a modification for a newer version a/p
has anyone done this already? i would like to see how i like it that way, and i'm not capable of figuring it out on my own.

Hi

To go to the modern AP (which half of the beta testers fly :whistle:)

open the panel.cfg with word editor(not WORD)
go to the line

gauge38=L1649A!RadioAP, 910, 378, 235, 68
//gauge38=CalClassic!AP_NEW, 886,378,353,74

and modify to this

//gauge38=L1649A!RadioAP, 910, 378, 235, 68
gauge38=CalClassic!AP_NEW, 886,378,353,74

Then lower down in the
[Vcockpit01] section

gauge18=L1649A!RadioAP, 500,725,350,100
//gauge18=CalClassic!AP_NEW, 463,725,539,113

Modify to this

//gauge18=L1649A!RadioAP, 500,725,350,100
gauge18=CalClassic!AP_NEW, 463,725,539,113

Then you should be fine

I installed the version from the initial post up above the other night, but found I had no VC. I'm never quite sure why things like this happen to me, but I'm willing to be it's because of my steadfast ability to not read readme files. Will get it out of there and try 2.2 tonight. :)

If you are interested in the military versions, download the free Alphasims Ec121, it has a vc, the model is fs9 but works fine in fsx. http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=ALPHA_Constellation_Set_FS9. zip

They also have other military models. http://www.alphasim.co.uk/fwd.html

I have used their Connie for a few years now. Mike Stone did one for fs9 also.

I found out I had in fact chosen the "no-vc" version of this fine aircraft. I then tried out the VC version and was loving it, but found that within a few minutes of take off my system froze up solid. This happened three times with this plane only, not with any other freeware or heavy duty payware so I'm left to think it's the Connie. :(

The first time it froze on me I noticed I lost sound about 3 seconds before. Maybe that's related somehow. Anyone else getting this?

If you see "blocks," then you are missing a bitmap in the ..\Effects\Texture folder.

As Bill said then you miss the texture in the effects folder.

And they are triggered by the throttle position not by the lights

Drop me a PM with your email adress and I send you the bitmap and the panel cfdg with (more) modern AP(its not like a 737 though)

Hi

Do you use FSX or FS9 config?
Advanced?

How did you install the sounds?the sound folder in the download to the main FSX folder sound?

If all this is OK try

Go to the aircraft.cfg and eliminate (for now) the exhaust flames like below

//light.5 = 7, 13.758, -18.8, -0.38, fx_1649A_exh2_2 // 2
//light.6 = 8, 13.758, 18.5, -0.38,fx_1649A_exh2_3 // 3
//light.7 = 2,11.00, -36.56, 1.280,fx_1649A_exh2_1 //1
//light.8 = 9,11.00, 36.56,1.280,fx_1649A_exh2_4 //4

What is not standard in your Starliner installation?

I'm using the simple FSX config.
Sound folder to main FSX sound folder (/squeaking brakes etc is in /fsx/sound/ as it should be)
Nothing not standard, I just followed the readme

I'll try pulling those exhaust flames when I get a chance and see if that helps, though they appear fine (and look great). I'm thinking it's sound related because everytime I've tried it the sound drops out shortly into the flight, then about 2 seconds later the system freezes. Maybe I should review the sound locations yet again.

It's a very nice model. I'm glad that I tried out the normal version first rather than the "advanced!"

1. It took nearly an hour to get the engines started.

2. After takeoff the gear only retracted about 3/4ths of the way

3. After climbing to 11,000' and establishing a cruise configuration of MP 35, 2500 RPM, engines failed in startup sequence: 3, 4, 2, 1 after about twenty minutes...

IMHO, there's too much "management" required. One can be a pilot in command or a flight engineer, it is too much for one person to do both. :typing:

Dear Bill

If you fly version 2,1 nothing (almost ) like this will happen to you

But in 2.2 it is for the long range boys not to get bored

1.)I asume you are in FSX.Try to start from FE panel with the key icon and or Ctrl-E
If not then you have one of the rare FSX SP2 's like mine where you have to increase the startertorque(engine section) in aircraft cfg to 1.250
should then fire instantly

2.)Turn on the statuspanel(kneeboard rightklick-->you made a mistake with hydraulic pressure should be green 100%-->if not klick on it-->green--> retract

3.)look to the statuspanel.You abuse the engines-->will turn yellow-->red-->blow up.You have to reduce Map(49) and rpm(2450) after 2 min.at level flight 20.000 you can abuse her longer

I hope this brings back the fun
