Spooky should have a black bottom on it. It mostly flew at night.

Yep, I haven't seen many "Original" Gunships with a light colored belly. If the owner isn't concerned with historical accuracy he can paint it any way he wants I guess, lol

I imagine it was passing by from down Lon Bin way...
Flew there with a C12 on the copilot's seat and we stopped to pick up pax... flying down from Phu Bai to Lon Bin... in Sept '69
Those folks used to "hose down" the hills around us at night... it was fun to watch at night... a nice fireworks demo...
Maybe it was just assigned... and later got the black belly..

Though it is true that the vast majority of missions were flown at night and the undersides were black, at least one AC-47 did have the light grey underside. If you have an old copy of Squadron/Signal's "Gunship", by Larry Davis, on page 8, is a picture of an AC-47 at Pleiku in 1966 with a light color underside.

That is a fantastic looking restoration, and obviously done by/for someone who really cares about the history/authenticity of the subject matter - I particularly like the paintwork/paint used on it.

I photographed this "Spooky" back in 2005 - today it is under restoration as "That's All Brother" with the CAF, after this particular aircraft was found to have been the original lead plane of the D-Day invasion (something that the previous owner did not know, when it was campaigned like this).

Marcel - yes, there were SOME with white undersides. The majority, and, as I stated specifically, Spooky, had black undersides.
