Good morning,

I had to hold off on the North Pacific for a day or two because Kdriver just sent me what I needed to finish the last two missions of the BoB package I'm trying to get out for beta testing.

UncleTgt and Kelticheart both requested that I do this mission: http://www.39-45war.com/ju88.html

http://disc.yourwebapps.com/discussion.cgi?disc=244414;article=8111

And Kdriver just sent me Speke airport to facilitate doing the mission. But if you read the the description, the Czech pilot who made the beam attack didn't even have time to tuck in his wheels before he began shooting at the Ju-88.

Now, in Mission Builder, I noticed there is a "landing gear extension" trigger there. I'm assuming that you can use this to facilitate in the mission what happened in real life. I was thinking that not retracting your gear could be either a goal or a hidden goal as an "attaboy" for doing it like Josef Stehlik did.

Is there anyone who does mission building that has toyed with something like this before?

Rami - I've used it to remind the player that their gear is still extended after taking off or to remind them to lower it if they approach to0 close to the airfield without lowering it. In every case I've either generated an on screen message or an audio recording. I can't recall ever using it as a goal.

I've done the same thing with the flaps deflection. I can recall one mission where the player needed to land and rearm if he ran out of ammo during the fight and I used those triggers to remind him to raise his gear and flaps after taking off again. In the heat of battle I assumed he might have forgotten otherwise.

Cody Coyote,

I know. I consulted your handbook first, but you used it as guidance for a training mission, which makes perfect sense. This kind of takes that premise and turns it on his head. :dizzy:

I guess the only way to know is to try it. I'll keep you posted on this one.

Thanks for the feedback!

Seen it and it should work like you want. Never used it but should work like one of the stock US missions where you have to use all ammo before leaving the area.

Rami,

I haven't used this trigger yet, but I think it should work.

However, if you use Gear Down and a kill as triggers for the event, what happens if the player raises the gear right after takeoff and then shoots down the bomber? Probably the event will spawn before landing, when the gear is extended again. To avoid this, you could add a third trigger, an elapsed time of, say, one minute or so, the kill having to be made within this time.

So, the first trigger for the event would be the Elapsed Time, with the "Not" box ticked, the second Gear Down and the third Get a Kill. This way, if the kill is made with the gear up, the event won't spawn, and when the gear is extended again later, it still won't spawn, as the elapsed time is over.

I'm writing this on my i-pad in a hotel on the road, so I haven't tried it out, just thought it might work this way, but I'm not absolutely sure.

Cheers,

Wolfgang

Skylane,

What I did was set up the hidden landing gear extension goal as a tie-in to the more significant goal of shooting down the enemy plane. If you achieve the goal of shooting the plane down with the landing gear extended, that achieves the hidden goal of reenacting Stehlik's achievement.

I didn't use three separate triggers for it, it's a dependent hidden goal of shooting down the Ju-88 with the gear deployed. The only thing I had to do differently was have you fly solo, and have the other two as AI, so that way the landing gear extension wasn't a collaborative percentage, it was just your single plane.

I spawned the enemy plane on startup, and disabled warp at takeoff, so you have to shoot the plane down for the mission to continue. This was a solo "tip and run" raid.
