SSW RedPanda based over WebSimConnect foundation ( http://websimconnect.webs.com/ ) has been applied to obtain a nice radar in ground mapping mode.
Into below video you can see the NASARR 21G radar that fits SSW AERITALIA-LOCKHEED F-104S.
Radar make use of SRTM terrain maps and reflectivity radar maps to obtain a realistic picture of the terrain front the aircraft.
Radar returns are depicted harder or softer pending on type of terrain: building, towns, towns and industrial area will have ah harder return, fields and countryside softer or null as showed into video.
Radar shadows are computed based on plane altitude and antenna tilt.
Video shows an approach to LIPR (Rimini/Miramare) at approx 3500'
Coast line, Rimini and Riccione towns are clearly visible and separated from other softer areas.
We believe this radar will be a good aid to navigate low level and to isolate targets.

Below video shows how antenna tilt and receveir gain are used to make an effective use of NASARR-21G to navigate at low altitude.
Use of reflective maps makes the radar depiction of terrain realistic as never seen before.
Most of the work has been done, next steps will be CM mode (Countour Map), TA (Terrain Avoidance) and MTI (Moving Target Indicator),
after that radar is complete and will fit both SSW AERITALIA-LOCKHEED F-104S and LOCKHEED FRF-104G (NASARR-15A) that will be distributed soon.
cheers
