Our fellow member and contributor Randy Daniell (rdaniell) passed away last evening at 5pm. His son John was kind enough to let me know.

Randy enjoyed flying around his home area of south Georgia in FSX and managed to learn scenery building techniques that enhanced his area. He has been a real life pilot with experience in Cessna 140s and once used to own an Ercoupe and a Luscombe. He was a Vietnam vet, a C-130 loadmaster, a psychologist and a retired, but still active pastor.

Most of all Randy was a good friend an old style pen-pan whom I wish I had the chance to meet in person. He will be sorely missed... RIP Randy...

Randy and I swapped a few files back and forth, when he was still flying FS9. Sad to hear of his passing. Blue Skies Forever, Randy.

A friend tells me that Randy served in the USAF, enlisting in the early 60’s and rose to the rank of Sgt. He served in Vietnam and flew in an AC-130 during the Blind Bat missions over the Ho Chi Minh trail. He was also a pastor and gained a degree in psychology. Besides that, he was just a brilliant guy.

The simming world is poorer for his passing.

Oh my! SO sorry to hear of this. I too, had swapped files with him over the years, and enjoyed messaging with and learning from him. I at one time also lived in South Georgia (Valdosta). My condolences to his family. A sad, sad day. NC

Randy and I were pen pals sharing many subjects. I am shocked to hear of this. If he was sick, I had no clue. Did the family say his passing was unexpected?

We communicated many times a week. He had never mentioned any heart problems. He was however rushed to the hospital for open heart surgery but did not make it.

It was also a shock to me as I had no idea.

I have made the KTMA Tifton scenery for Randy in 2012. It was his home town airport:
