Hi all,
This is possibly the best CFS1 a/c I have seen.It was designed by a Japanese designer some time ago and i believe he withdrew from the CFS community because people where stealing his work.A pity as his work was very very good.

A couple more shots.Noyice the turret turns with the direction of the a/c banking and the cowls move up and down with the / key.

Where can we get this critter? The only other Defiant I have ever seen is really just a FS98 plane.

Hi!

If the author is Japanese and paranoid, then it must be Shigeru Tanaka.:costumes:

I have seen Shigeru Tanaka's work. This plane does not look like his style.
Besides, I definitely can understand about being upset by someone taking your work and calling it their own. Happened to me also. It definitely ruins the enthusiasm we all start with.

You're right Ivan. There is two paranoid Japanese designers out there. I can't figure out his name but it's not Tanaka that made that rather good looking Paul Defiant.

I know that some low-life trashy kind-of-people-sorta despicable individuals are stealing others work but it is no reason to turn paranoid for that. To a certain point, you should be flattered if someone else is ready to stoop that low to make your work his (or her).

It's not what these individuals are that infuriate me. It's what they make us turn into.

On another note. How comes that you're interested in a "target" like the Boulton Paul Defiant? To me, "Boulton Paul Defiant" and "lame duck" are synonymous. It is beyond any half-minded person to begin understanding the "reasonning" behind the concept that gave birth to that... thing.

So long!

Hi Hubbabubba,
I don't dislike the idea of picking up good examples of just about ANY type of aircraft. I like pretty planes. I don't like the idea of BUILDING a target type aircraft but I really have no objections to downloading them.... Besides, every once in a while I also need something to shoot at!

If you think this one is weird, have you ever seen the Airacuda?

it would have been a nice plane to use in my 109 BoB campaign (missions 2,5 and 23)
now it has a defiant with night camouflage, it does the job (as easy target) very good, but this one would have been more realistic

Hi all,
It is not the subject but the quality of this a/c.It was way ahead of it's time as a model. There is no texture bleeding, jagged connections and the animation is excellent.Turning turret and moving cowlings as well as what is considered the norm for a late CFS1 a/c.

Sorry Buddha13...

But there is some bleed-through (I counted three at first glance) and if it is on the top of the basket, it is not THE best a/c ever made for CFS1.

In a few days, mine will be. :icon_lol:

As for the name Takaaki, it's in the readme file but is it the author's name? Difficult to say.

As for the Airacuda, I don't know what it is but even the name is weird!

Great looking aircraft! Where is it possible to download it? There's a great novel about WWII air war by Dereck Robinson that I'm sure every CFS1 fan should like to read. It's called "Piece of Cake" and a TV series was made out of it in the early eighties. I remember the death toll of the Defiant pilots being called to mind at some some point of the novel with one of the caracters abruptly ending his career and his life shortly after being moved to a Defiant Squadron.:tgun2:

Hi PJ,
I am not sure I agree with you regarding the novel. I DID start reading this novel, but got bored and quit after a few pages. This author has a rather strange writing style.

Hallo Ivan!

I admit that that reading this very long book may be a bit tedious at the start due to the lot of rather obscure English RAF native jargon in it, but the atmosphere of the time is very well depicted and a lot of interesting and little known facts about the Battle of Britain are brought to light (for instance the role of the freighter convoys in the Channel, deliberately sacrified as decoys for the Luftwaffe during the first stage of the battle). I ordered and got a copy of the DVD edition from Canada last year. I had never heard of that series being broadcast on any French speaking European television program. Perhaps too many things in the atmosphere of that film can't be really perceived by people who haven't lived in England or been in contact with the British mentality?...

Another great portrayal of that particular period is Peter W. Townsend's book " A Duel of Eagles".

Cheers,

Pol.

Hallo Buddha 13!

Could you please let me know where I can download this beautifully looking Boulton-Paul Defiant. Thanks a lot.

Greetings,

Very beautiful plane, very accurately detailed and remarkably textured! Amazing when one takes notice of the fact it was designed not very long after CFS1 came out.

However Hubbabubba is right: there are some bleedings in the cockpit area but if these minor flaws could be repaired and a real Virtual cockpit added to it, it would be really great as it could reach the level of CFS2 aircrafts!

The only thing that might be discussed is the point of having an animated turret when the guns keep on firing in the same direction?!...

Is there any other work from this talented Japanese designer that can be seen somewhere?

Hi PJ,

I believe that this author made a wonderful Mavis flyingboat,But he has removed all his a/c from the web a long time ago in a fit of pique. His main complaint as people were uploading his a/c without his permission and were claiming them as their own.

Hallo Buddha13!

I can well understand the anger and frustration of seeing one's work stolen by others when I think of the countless hours this kind of work must have required!

On the other hand, when I see those so badly designed CFS1 stock aircrafts (I know it for having been repainting the whole of them many times for ages), I wish there was someone to be able to hack their .mdl files and rebuild them completely!... I'm trying everything I can to make them look a little better with new textures but it remains a quite thankless challenge!

I agree with Hubbabubba and PJ Dunbar. This Defiant is definitely a very fine aircraft but does have its issues. The first and most obvious is a whole bunch of sparklies on the sides of the fuselage. It happens when the panels do not meet up on a common vertex. The next is the cockpit bleeds of the canopy frame and the control panel. Nothing major there, but the bleeds are there. Finally, the shape of the nose is slightly off. It isn't very noticeable, but the nose tapers a bit too much. Easy way to tell is to view the aircraft from above. The exhaust manifolds should be a bit further appart in front. I get the impression that this was a AD2000 aircraft rather than a AF99 aircraft.

For what it's worth, there isn't a thing I have built yet that doesn't have similar problems to some degree.:santahat:

May I have a link or something so I can download this plane? It looks really good from the screenshots. Also....who has the credits for this airplane? Im sure my squad would like to fly this plane if I could secure permission to use it as a squad aircraft.

ye gosh! that is an awesome plane. All I can ask is that you e-mail me the files. I have read is objections and will not post them on any server. Really a pity that people are so rotten. Takaaki had some genuine talent. Please email me at guppanui_3@hotmail.com!

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree, I don't believe he is rotten.
I think that the person in question simply has a different sensibility. I could be mistaken, but I think that the Artist takes offense that a bunch of trigger happy _____ (enter your own word) use his creations as fodder for our weapons of destruction. This point of view may be a bit over sensitive, considering the medium, but what the heck, to each his own. JMO
I, for one, would like to see more of his work. Anybody got any?
Happy New Year.

I meant to say that the evil pirate was the rotten one for pirating Takaaki's work. Sorry, I didn't mean to insult Takaaki himself.

Egypt, please notice Takaaki's lisence agreement. I went to that site, and found that Takaaki does not want the url of is site to be published anywhere. Pllease delete those links.

Incidentaly, smilo, I do have pictures of his addons, and indeed, the files. Here are some pictures of his best CFS1 work, a Ki-84a Hayate "Frank"

I'm mostly a CFS2 hand, but that Ki-84Ia, is extreamly well done for a CFS model!:applause:
