Hello there!
October was a very exciting month here at Laminar Research. On Oct. 8 we announced that X-Plane 11 will be available this year, and we've been examining a new feature every Friday. Today we've got a recap of this month's X-Plane 11 feature releases and some great links to X-Plane 10 add ons below.
X-Plane 11 - October Feature Recap

Last month we took a closer look at the new user interface, the three brand new aircraft, and Flight School.

The new user interface was one of our top priorities for the new version, and it may be one of the most obvious changes. As soon as you start X-Plane 11 it looks completely different! Despite its name, the X-Plane Developer site (http://email.x-plane.com/e/c/eyJlbWFpbF9pZCI6Ik1UUTFOVG9XQTBNQ1pBQUNjd0FYQVJsVE dnRkpUMUlxeVJVOEdGZ1lwdWdCYlRvek9URTVOVElBIiwicG9z aXRpb24iOjcsImhyZWYiOiJodHRwOi8vZGV2ZWxvcGVyLngtcG xhbmUuY29tLyIsImxpbmtfaWQiOjI0MTQ0MDk5fQ/4873adabb2b646a078df98e020fb6f83f966fe5d9834b652d3 69a2a25c80e3c5) is not just for scenery artists and aircraft developers. You can find many resources for creating X-Plane add ons there, but it's also an excellent way to peek behind the curtain of the X-Plane development process. Lead Developer Ben Supnik provides regular updates and explanations of the things we're working on for X-Plane. Often he provides insight into the thought process behind X-Plane development decisions.
Our developer site may seem a little intimidating at first, but if you're interested in an insider look as we continue putting the finishing touches on X-Plane 11, you'll want to bookmark the X-Plane Developer blog (http://email.x-plane.com/e/c/eyJlbWFpbF9pZCI6Ik1UUTFOVG9XQTBNQ1pBQUNjd0FYQVJsVE dnRkpUMUlxeVJVOEdGZ1lwdWdCYlRvek9URTVOVElBIiwicG9z aXRpb24iOjgsImhyZWYiOiJodHRwOi8vZGV2ZWxvcGVyLngtcG xhbmUuY29tLyIsImxpbmtfaWQiOjI0MTQ0MDk5fQ/a7d7d0389c2bf74a33b61e3d90c2b8661ab8a58c4844df044c 1135e621859822)!

Presumably they'll provide a X-11 demo with at least a few good models, the current v10 models are so poor that it puts me off X-Plane entirely. I've downloaded a few freebies to see if the standard improves, which to be fair it does, but not enough to transition to it from FSX although I recognize I mostly have payware. The 64 bit nature of X-Plane is the intriguing thing, my old FSX just struggles with memory issues with all the goodies I like to use.

It's why I fly both. I can't afford to dedicate to just one system and spend all my money on new stuff. Mainly I fly the stock aircraft and some of the new freeware (which has gotten pretty sophisticated)
