8 years ago you all bought me this laptop. since then I went threw 5 keyboards, lol, when I hit it hard the keys blow off, hehehe
I replaced the HD 3 times, and now this morning it started to make noise.
This is a win 7 upgraded for free to windows 10.

If it goes out and I buy a new HD how do I put win 10 in it again?
Do I just buy a new windows 10 CD?

DO I beg for a new laptop?

note I use this everyday for 16 hours a day for SOH then I turn on my little one (Microsoft Tablet x2 win-8 you bought this for me too) to monitor SOH all night Its the best night light I ever had, lol.:biggrin-new:

You can't save Windows , well you can clone it, but you also clone it's problems. Best bet is to just purchase Win 10 disk and start fresh on a new drive.

That said, due to it's age, you might want to beg for it to be replaced Ickie for some better technoligy. Heat has also probably caused some isues too, so replacement may be your best option.

You output to an old TV or Monitor? That only has HDMI it seems ...

I run a second led screen for my security camera's off my laptop now.
the monitor is both HDML and VGA so it wouldn't matter what the laptop would have.

I may even have 1 of them adapters somewhere

If you dont need sound for the security monitoring just google HDMI to VGA and get a simple cable with the needed jacks on each end. No sound that way but video will output..

But you need to make sure your Monitor will decode the HDMI signal if you go this way.

I'd be wary of that one. HDMI is a digital signal, while VGA is analog. You need some sort of conversion circuit to make that change. Click the link below and read the reviews - VGA would be the same concept.

Using a laptop temporally till i've saved up enough for another gaming rig. Laptop has good specs but cooling isn't that good. A common problem with laptops. Keyboard keys layout on the laptop don't allow me to play Il-2 '46 and that's a real bummer.

I need to ask fast to maybe save all my data from this old clunker before it is gone.

I think I'd like the Dell after all the reading I did on it and the future work it will endure.

Ron,

I have to get four new tires and do some repair work on my car this weekend. If it's not as much as I fear, I'll be happy to help you out at that point.

Bloody Muppet.:173go1:

Ron puts in more hours keeping this site up and running than you can imagine!

More hours than most people who have a regular 'Job' would consider working, and for no money.

HP is a very good computer company. A lot for the money.

My wife is monitoring my discretionary spending at the moment (model railroading is way more expensive than flight sim), so I can't contribute anything but opinion.
Try to get a laptop at least one step above the minimum. I've been drafted to help with my gun club's new Dell laptop (low end from an office supply store) a couple of times and honestly I've got a couple of old IBM ThinkPads that run better.
On the very small chance the SOH community does not get you there, I'll be happy to send them to you- T40, Win 7.

Bought my laptop at a pawn shop for around $170 and it was well wort it and had most of the features i wanted including Win7 64 bit ,good cpu ,ram and good graphics. There's deals out there . It just takes a bit of shopping around.

Ron,

My car wasn't as much as I feared, and now I have four new tires for the winter. I had enough left over to make my donation, as promised. I hope it helps. :very_drunk:
